I worked with MUST Makeup and Hair for both my engagement photoshoot and wedding. Sung did my hair for both events, and she was wonderful at executing what hairstyle I wanted based on the inspiration photos I showed her. I received many compliments on my hair, and the hairstyles held up even after many hours later. Also, Sung was very helpful in teaching us how to put on my veil, which was important when we were getting ready at the venue later. I came into the studio on Sunday morning, there was a lot of surrounding parking structures and the one I picked happened to be free on Sunday. I went into the building and was able to find the studio and saw how clean it was. Jiae was very friendly and informative with the process. She also trained me how to recognize colors and know which colors look best on me. I have had a lot of trouble over the years figuring out what my undertone is. She was able to go over the makeup colors I currently have and make recommendations based on what season I matched. The appointment was very thorough and she even did a light make up for me. I'd hired MUST for hair and make up for my daughter's wedding. 2 artists (Mina for makeup and Yuseon for hair) traveled out to the hotel we were staying in Valencia as the wedding was at the Newhall Mansion in Piru. The ladies arrived promptly and they went to work! To be honest, I was a bit concerned before I met the ladies that they would do, or worse yet, insist, the typical Asian mother of the bride look -- Au naturale, pale, glossy look. Not that there's anything wrong with them but I wanted a bit extra and these ladies caught my vibe almost right away. I was very happy with how they turned out. I hired the MUST Hair and Makeup team for my wedding approximately 1 week ago and wanted to share my horrid experience with them. I do want to preface this by saying that ESTHER AND YOUNSUN WERE AMAZING and if I could rate them separately, I would give them both 5 stars. I want to start with my experience from the beginning. When I first inquired with MUST, they were very responsive and I did actually really love my experience with them during my trial, which is why I decided to book them for my wedding. Fast forward 2-3 weeks BEFORE my wedding, I inquired with them about how many people would be servicing us and they shared that there would be 4 people. I inquired with them again approximately 1-2 weeks before my wedding asking what the time breakdown would be, as I had 9 people getting serviced for hair and makeup. They did not provide a timeline for me of when who was going, so I decided to make my own timeline and send it to them. I never got a response. Come 2 DAYS BEFORE my wedding, the MUST manager reaches out to me with a changed timeline. I called her expressing my frustration with the lack of communication and questioned why the times were changed. She explained and I understood. On the day of the wedding, I was informed to provide the following: mirror, table, power cord, and 2 chairs. Younsun walked in first at 9AM and she was extremely friendly and requested the mirror. We were able to find one and provided it for her. Esther came second and she began to set up on the table provided. Nami came last and this is when the problems began. Nami walked in with a stank face and was IMMEDIATELY frustrated that there was not an additional mirror. For me, I was thinking to myself, first off you guys asked for ONE mirror and second, why do you need a mirror to do hair? She huffed and puffed and then decided okay maybe we'll use the bathroom. She asked MY BRIDESMAIDS to set up chairs for her in there (questioning this too because why are the clients helping with set up?). After the chair was set up in the bathroom, she annoyingly stated in Korean, "okay never mind I'm just gonna share the mirror." She had a terrible attitude from the getgo. Throughout the hair service, she made MULTIPLE comments to my bridesmaids about the quality of their hair (how thin it is, how damaged it is) which made them feel like shit. None of my bridesmaids whose hairs were styled by Nami were happy with the outcome. Nami also did my hair. She kept my hair in rollers for 1.5 hours because she couldn't manage her time properly and when it finally came to do my hair, she decided it wasn't a big deal to even out my front/curtain bangs. I noticed it after she had tied my hair and asked if she was gonna fix it to which she looked at me confused. I directed her to fix my bangs and she eventually fixed it. I was supposed to be ready by 1:30 and it was already 1:20-25 by this point. Esther was touching up my makeup when all of a sudden, I feel someone UNTYING MY HAIR. Mina, another makeup artist who came as a part of the team, decided to untie my hair 5 minutes before my ready time. They took 10 minutes to fix my hair and I was extremely frustrated at this point because of the general attitude and lack of professionalism mentioned earlier AND because I was on a time crunch. I asked Esther for a q-tip to wipe my eyes and Mina decided it was okay for her to start singing in Korean, "don't cry~ don't cry" which pissed me off even more. I provided a tip at the end because I still respect people's time and the work that they do. If it weren't for Esther and YounSun, my tip would've been way less. After the wedding, the manager reached out to me and said "I heard there were some issues" to which I told her everything, including the fact that they should not be advertising and encouraging a 20% tip because at the end of the day, 20% tip is NOT mandatory--it is based on the service and how much people like the service. Additionally, I spent over 3000 dollars with this team from the engagement trial to wedding day to the tip spent and for what reason? to get serviced. Services are supposed to be provided in the most efficient way possible with MINIMAL opinions involved. No one needs to hear that their hair is dry and damaged or little side comments about their appearance. If you're there to service, then just provide the service and less chatter. I spoke to the manager on the phone and she was really apologetic, which I was thankful for but the part that really got me was that she offered me a 20 dollar gift card for MUST hair and makeup services.... 20 dollars... which doesn't cover anything... after I've spent several thousands of dollars on the service. I will definitely not be using their services again and I caution future brides thinking about booking them for their wedding day. I was very chill throughout my entire wedding planning process until a couple days before and ON my wedding day because of some of the members of this team. read more

I have to confess that I didn't even wash my face prior to the makeup in the morning of photoshoot for my 1 yo baby girl's dol pics due to being so exhausted from flying from Seattle to LA for bringing the baby along with 4 yo toddler while breastfeeding, dragging luggage, etc, etc. Even so, I'm so grateful how she made me so beautiful regardless of my terrible skin condition!! Wow 5 stars for the makeup. Ahram the makeup artist was truly talented and all of my bridesmaids loved their makeup as well. If I can give you brides one advice it would be to book your hair elsewhere. Sung showed up about an hour after the call time, spent MAYBE 10 minutes on my (bridal hair) and left. I had the ugliest old Korean lady updo and it looked NOTHING like the sleek low bun that I wanted. I kept telling her that my hair was too puffy but she was insisting that my face would look "too big" and therefore she needed to add "more texture" (whatever that means). My bridesmaids all hated their hair as well and some of them ended up redoing it themselves. This is a once in a lifetime occasion and all brides should look and feel their absolute best. Go somewhere where the hairstylist will listen to what YOU want and not what they think is best for you. read more

They arrived at my venue early, prepared and ready for action. Would recommend to my friends. After you've booked them, you can text them pictures of your face and current hair situation. And also your dress, if you're getting married. They'll know what style suits you best, but will also ask you for your preferences. You can create a Google Photos album / Pinterest board with inspiration and pictures of styles you like, so they can get a good idea of what you're thinking. I was going for a Dewey 'Charlotte Tilbury' look (for those getting married, look up Charlotte Tilbury make up looks and thank me later) and got just that. I wanted a Korean Make-Up Artist because they know how to deliver a full face while keeping your skin looking like skin. Jessica did my make up and I was very very happy. She's very detail-orientated. Sung, the owner did my hair and she delivered for my glam 40s old Hollywood curls look. They're very friendly and do make up and hair pretty quickly. I was concerned I would be late to my event, but they were done in an hour. Like the other reviewers have mentioned, they give you a sponge, touch up lipstick in a baggie so you can touch up on the go. One day when I get married I'm bringing my party to Sung and her team. She exceeded my expectations and delivered lovely diverse and natural looks for everyone on an ultra fast timeline. I also believe she undercharges for what she delivers. Her rates were the most affordable from all of the rival Korean makeup artists. She has a ton of experience for Korean and American style makeup and bridal hair. The only thing I feel she could improve upon is increasing her travel fee to cover incidentals such as parking and to communicate her tip expectations up front in the written contract. I could see how one bride could panic and freak out talking $ on the big day. She also teaches makeup classes so I am considering taking lessons from her so I could kick my makeup game up a couple notches!
