Stacy is awesome! I went to her for a makeup lesson. I wasn't skilled at this stuff before but she made me feel capable. She has such an easy, positive style and makes you feel at ease. We started with looking at my existing makeup. It was cathartic to get rid of all the stuff that was old or the wrong color. I told her what I was going for and she really heard me and delivered. She understands different coloring, ages, complexions, etc. I learned a ton from her. Having her do one side of your face and then doing the other myself is a great teaching technique. Yes, yes! Five stars for Stacy's makeup lesson. I haven't had a lot of great experiences with makeup - a couple lessons from someone at a makeup counter when I was a teenager and reading the instructions that came with eye makeup brushes from Sephora sum up the formal instruction I've had. I wanted to really up my game and get a polished look that I could play with comfortably. Stacy not only taught me the basics, she gave me tools to take my makeup from a workplace setting to a night out. She's extremely detailed and patient. As another reviewer made mention she will literally hold your hand until you get the application technique correct. And, she spent a lot of time with me - sent me home with a shopping list and detailed application notes - then followed up with me to see how things were going and to answer my questions via email. I went to Stacy for a makeup lesson, which is a makeover that is also a very thorough lesson. I thought after plenty of years of being vain and reading fashion mags I would already know how to do makeup. But in fact, I did not. Something was missing, and I wasn't sure if I could look better, but I thought "better find out." Stacy really knows her stuff, and treats you, your beautiful face and your strange preferences with great respect and care. She has a warmth and confidence that put you at ease. I wanted to look great, but not look like I was wearing much makeup. Not glam. She can do glam of course, but she catered to me anyway. I seriously have tried every kind of makeup out there, but have never really gotten the kind of look I wanted to achieve. Even she was surprised by how much makeup I had- and she's a makeup artist! Nonetheless, she took the time to go thru my makeup with me and we talked about what worked, what didn't and what I was looking for help with. She is extremely attentive and definitely caters the lesson to your particular needs/desires. The lesson was a step-by-step process. Although there are a lot of steps and you are there for awhile, she makes you demonstrate everything she does back to her so she can correct you. This is the best way to learn because you retain so much more than when you go to the makeup counter at a store and they just put it on for you. If you can't put in on yourself properly, what's the point? (You also go home with a chart and notes that remind you of everything you learned) She covers absolutely everything- skin care, methods of application on EVERYTHING, colors that are good for your skin tone and variations for your 'look'. She makes a real effort to use what you already have, I loved that she doesn't work for a certain line (when you normally get pressured to buy their stuff). I simply cannot say enough good things about Stacy. She is just fantastic. I found Stacy on yelp and with all the rave reviews I decided I could not go wrong. I booked a makeup lesson and brow shaping as I was getting married in Anguilla and it was time I learned how to correctly apply my makeup and make sure it would last and look fabulous for the big event. Stacy did a great job and teaching me the basics and creating a wedding day look that was natural and stood the test of time. I highly recommend going back for a refresher lesson a few weeks after your first meeting as you will have questions as there is so much new information. Not only does she understand the subtleties of application, but she knows how to teach technique to students who aren't necessarily comfortable with a makeup brush. During the lesson, Stacy demonstrated application strategies and we practiced brush movement; she was both patient and empowering. After getting my makeup done for my wedding, I decided that I wanted to take a lesson to learn better techniques. I had come across Stacy when I was looking at makeup artists for my wedding, and based on her great reviews, I decided to book a lesson. I couldn't have been happier with the lesson. Stacy does her lessons out of her apartment and she spends 2/12 hours walking you through the best way to apply makeup. She starts by going through your current makeup and pulling out everything that doesn't work for you (which was really helpful considering how much makeup you accumulate over the years). She then walks you through step by step how to best apply your makeup. She shows you some good products to use, colors that work best for you, and gives suggestions on the best brushes to use. She spends the last half hour making a face chart with step by step instructions (which was really helpful), and her makeup recommendations. Overall, I couldn't have been happier with the lesson. I walked away feeling that I had an updated and better makeup look. I now feel comfortable experimenting with different types of makeup and I have a new addiction to Sephora, Laura Mercier and Trish McEvoy! You do have to be prepared to make some investments in some new makeup, but everything that Stacy suggested worked much better than what I was using previously, and was really happy with all of my new purchases. To top it off, Stacy is a very sweet person. She was happy to answer my emails after the lesson with follow up questions and she offers a refresher lesson that I am definitely going to book. But as someone who hardly wears any, I was very worried that I would walk out out of her place and want to run home and wash everything off (as I often have done after makeovers). Just got married. Stacy did my make-up along with the make-up of 3 close family members. TL;DR: Stacy is my new favorite person. Kind of wish we could be friends after all of this but I guess I just have to move on. I didn't know what to expect from Stacy as I had never had my makeup done professionally anywhere, let alone had a makeup lesson. I have watched quite a few youtube videos re makeup application and learned one or two things here and there, but what I appreciated so much from my appointment with Stacy was her expertise and her tailored suggestions. It's hard to find someone who will look at your face, skin, features, current makeup, etc. and give you input on what is good and what could use improvement. We all get so used to looking at our own faces that we sometimes don't have the slightest idea about what we can do to improve on it. That is something that is invaluable about working with Stacy. Not only was it easy to talk to her and ask questions that I may never have the courage to ask anyone else about makeup or my face, it was also easy to hear her suggestions which were clear and constructive. After my makeup had been applied, I remember thinking that the results were above and beyond anything I had expected. While the cost of the lesson is more than some of us are used to spending on ourselves and the products she recommends are a bit pricey, she knows what she is talking about and she knows that the products she is recommending are the best around. The cost is definitely worth it because this is an investment in your face.... you know, that thing you wear every single day of your life, the thing that everyone looks at when they talk to you, and that thing you see when you look into the mirror. So, if we can spend a few hundred dollars for a nice pair of boots that we'll wear here and there over the next few years (if we are lucky), we can do the same for our face. Stacy is the best! I yelped for someone to pluck (not wax) my eyebrows and she came up and I thought, hmmm... why not have a makeup lesson too. She first did a beautiful job with my eyebrows -- the best they've ever looked (and extremely reasonably priced) and then she gave me a 2 hour make up lesson -- looking over all my own makeup and suggesting what I keep and get rid of and then doing a really thorough job of finding the best products for my skin type and coloring and teaching me how to use everything. Since she doesn't sell any of the makeup she uses there is no pressure to buy anything and you know you're getting the best products for you -- not just what the person behind the counter is selling. I have to thank Yelp, yet again, for pointing me in the right direction. I love make up and have always loved make up. My face kinda requires it. My application techniques weren't really working for me anymore, and that is why I decided to see Stacy. So first off, per Stacy's request, I brought my own make up. Stacy helped me get rid of the colors that looked outdated, did not match my complexion, weren't flattering etc. She was very straightforward and decisive in her assessments - I was happy she didn't waste our precious time sugar coating... She then used her own make up to fill in where I couldn't use my own (about 80% was hers which she made note of so I could buy it afterward at Saks.) I then learned that I had been applying my make up incorrectly for about a million years. I thought it would be hard to remember, but she wrote a detailed chart and it all came back to me (except the liquid eyeliner which I "like" to smear all over my eye.) Finally, Stacy picked two great lip colors for me. Do you know how long I have been looking for the right lip color? Forever, despite the fact I have consulted with about 50 different people at make up counters all the way from NY to SF over the past 15 years. If I ever get marred one day, I will be calling Stacy to do my make up. In the meantime, I will enjoy applying it myself... correctly this time. ;-) read more

Don't wait until your wedding. Everyone can benefit from a makeup lesson. Stacy is wonderful, patient, kind, fun, professional, nurturing, and very very good at what she does. If, like me, you learned makeup from magazines, trial and error, and girlfriends, then you'll never believe the difference it makes to learn from a professional. I went because I realized I'd never truly had a lesson and also because I knew my skin was changing as I got older and I didn't want to be one of "those" women who fails to check the mirror with objectivity now and then. Stacy will look through your current makeup and brushes, will help you understand which colors need to be discarded, will help supplement your supplies with suggestions, and will give you a thoroughly detailed diagram of how to apply your makeup and with which tools. Excellent suggestions by the way - I bought everything she had listed and I'm amazed at how right-on she is with the colors and how confident I feel with the brushes. The difference in my makeup is subtle but effective. It's a blast to see how many people that I see on a regular basis who now mention "you look pretty". I have to say, make-up has a powerful effect. If done right, it can get men checking you out from Stacy's place to the Bart station. I'm not kidding! Stacy's teaching technique is great, allowing you to practice right there exactly what she did to one side of your face. Having her pillage my make-up selection was helpful too. I know now what colors to avoid and what to look for. And even though you may think you've got it, you also gotta practice at home. Since diligently doing my own make-up as Stacy had taught me, I've gotten more compliments from strangers. Now I have one advice. Pay attention during the make-up lesson. Even though Stacy writes everything down for you at the end of the session, you gotta remember the experience of how she did it and how she guided you to do it yourself. Otherwise, get a friend to stand there with a camcorder, if Stacy will allow it;) Oh, and be prepared to make some smart investments in your make-up supply.
