The food was amazing, I hadn't been back in a long time but it reminded me of why I missed coming here plus the $7.99 rolls special for any roll is amazing. My family loved it.

Sushi is fresh and the Gyoza's are nice and warm!

The food itself is very good, served nice and fresh. The only bad thing about this place is the wait, I waited almost an hour for my food but I'm still leaving a 5 star because they receptionist was very nice and kept updating me on that status of my food. If you're in a rush or on your lunch break, I wouldn't recommend coming here since you probably won't receive your food in time. But if you have time to spare, I'd recommend for sure!

It was my first time here I liked it. I love sushi and the fact the service was good. I would come back again and try more on their menu.

Sushi? This place gets effort points, but it lacks in quality and experience. Although I didn't have any expectations walking in, I was at least hoping for decent sushi. We ordered the following rolls: spicy tuna, veggie tempura, Godzilla, and Cosmos. Also, the seared salmon sashimi appetizer. We ate about two thirds of the rolls and one piece of sashimi before calling it quits. The fish didn't taste fresh at all. Oddly, fresh fish may not be a priority here. The service was average. Our waitress was friendly, but didn't make an effort to ask about the food, nor acknowledge that we hadn't even touched the appetizer. Will not be returning here.

I have been coming to Maki for a couple of years now. With that being said, I've seen this place in both good and bad times. We have waited up to an hour for sushi on busy Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's when they have all their rolls for $5.99...all the way till today which took less than 15 minutes. We have had the most horrible service (15 minutes to get our drinks, before we decided to just leave) and have now witnessed the progression to a more attentive wait staff. One thing that has remained is the taste of the sushi. It has always tasted fresh and delicious. I've been to 2 other sushi places and even tried the HEB sushi, but nothing beats the freshness of the rolls I get from here. We will continue to come back and be loyal customers as we always have.

I live in San Antonio and there's no place like Maki up there! Definitely love the service and the rolls!

The sushi here is delicious. There is a wait sometimes if you order ahead, so keep that in mind. It's is worth it! And reasonably priced!

Tsunami Sushi Bar and Grill is located in strip mall near the office I was working at, and some of the local staff mentioned it was a lunchtime favorite. The interior is a cookie-cutter of any Japanese / sushi joint in America. There is a counter off to the right when you walk in where can sit and watch the chefs prepare the rolls if that's your preference. Otherwise, the decor is laminate flooring with dark wooden tables and chairs, and a mid-height wall separating the dining room punctuated with Japanese themed art work on the walls. I ordered the sushi bento lunch box, and for $13...it was a very good deal! Tempura fried veggies were lightly battered and fried to a nice crisp without being soggy. The California roll was a bit heavy on the rice, but otherwise inoffensive and had that familiar flavor profile of imitation crab meat mixed in with cucumber and avocado. I thought the teriyaki chicken with fried rice was the highlight. The chicken had a nice charred flavor from the flat top and was not drowning in sweet soy sauce, as is prepared at most places. And there was plentiful fried rice, which again, had a nice smoky charred flavor. It was a generous portion size, and enough that I had half to take home for dinner that night. Is Tsunami the most authentic Japanese restaurant you'll find? No. But for the Rio Grande Valley, it is a change-up and pleasant surprise.

I had them make a special platter of Nigiri sushi for me, and it was very, very good. My husband had the bento box and was super pleased with it. This place didn't disappoint even for someone who normally doesn't eat sushi all the time. The waiter was very helpful in ordering. The ambiance was small place with music playing in background. The most comfortable chairs at the table, especially for a large person. We tried the rice dish with beef, chicken and shrimp, fantastic! We tried the spicy noodle dish and that had a different flavor, which was great! We also tried two different rolls and that too was good. Then we finished off with a brownie platter dessert that our granddaughter destroyed because it was so good. We will definitely come back.

We started with the gyozas, which were really good. He got the dragon roll and I ordered the sexy roll. Both were tasty, but I especially loved the tempura crumbs on top of mine they added the perfect crunch and flavor. A few weeks later, I went back with my mom. We ordered the gyozas again, plus spicy edamame, fried rice, and of course, I had to get the sexy roll again. Most of the food was great, but unfortunately, the roll didn't live up to the first visit. It didn't seem as fresh, and the tempura crumbs were a bit stale this time. Overall, still a nice spot, but hoping for more consistency next time!

Ube Churros, Peruvian Choco bar, Hokkaido Melon Cheesecake. The tacu tacu was really amazing and cooked to my taste, medium. The ceviche had a bit of a kick to it but super tasty and it's great to share. Of the three desserts, I really liked the choco bar and the melon cheesecake. The choco bar would be great to someone who really likes dense and strong flavors. The cheesecake would be great to someone who prefers light and softer flavors. The churros was alright, I would skip this next time. This differently a place to have a fancy night out. It feels like you need to have a dress code but they're relaxed bout it.
