I've had chronic sciatic and muscle pain for years. I've also had many massages in towns across the USA and abroad. Sam York is the only massage therapist who has been able to reduce that pain to the point where I can now climb stairs much, much more easily. I visited Folly Beach for three weeks in February and my time for treatment was limited. But I'm certain he could have completely erased all trace of pain had I been able to have two or three more treatments. He has an in-depth knowledge of muscular anatomy and really listens to what you have to say about your medical condition. In fact, we started each session with a chat. And he has a very engaging and caring personality. He doesn't rush anything. He generously gave more time to my massages than I had paid for and tailored the massage to my personal needs. He constantly studies new techniques and, very importantly, he honors the Hippocratic oath: "First, do no harm." A poorly trained masseur can do a lot of damage! You'll never have such an experience with Sam. He uses a variety of techniques including Hawaiian lomi lomi. (I had a lomi lomi warrior massage.) He can give a purely relaxing massage as well as treat for pain. Sam warns that his neuromuscular massage is not pleasant. I have a very low pain threshold, and my neuromuscular (deep tissue) massage was indeed painful. But no damage was done to the tissue. On the contrary, my body felt instantly healthier afterward. Stick with the pain and enjoy the rewards! Sam's massage rooms are simple. You aren't paying for fancy marble and fountains.
