They told me that they'd be here between 1 pm - 3 pm. I've been waiting over 2 hours now with my son. If you have a kid, you know how difficult it is to make them wait. I tried calling them, but it's going straight to voicemail, I think they're ignoring my calls. They haven't even called to update me on what time they're expected to be here or what's going on. Horrible customer service. I can't give a review on the actual move, as I'm beginning to think it's never gonna happen. I even took off of work to be here for this move, which makes it so much worse. I've hired and recommended Johnny the movers many times! A couple days ago they helped me move from a huge house - up on steep driveway and stairs equivalent to a 3 story walk up. They ran a little late - so they made sure to call to apologize and let me know they would be there 15-20 min late - no biggie. I wasn't ready anyway! Asked them to assemble some things too, they were super easy to work with and didn't have any issues with our odd request to assemble equipment. They're paid by the hour and they work efficiently. They work hard. Communication from dispatch and the crew is terrible which affected us. The younger crew are hard working but immature. I would not recommend them. Would not recommend. The guys that came to move my stuff were cool but they didn't wrap all of my items correctly. They ended up breaking an item of mine and was told that because it was two years old I wouldn't get paid back for the full price I paid for it due to depreciation. As soon as they came, they complained about it being a possibly big job and was disappointed that someone wasn't sent ahead of them to find out how big the job was. The good thing is they disassembled and reassembled the bed. It disturbs me that they nearly forgot a piece (if I haven't picked it up). There are no words to express: 1. How much I hate moving 2. How great these movers are! When our company lost its lease, we had to scramble to pack up two offices plus a (packed to the ceiling-high) storage room and not-so-merrily move along our way. Moving is a pain. No, moving is a nightmare! And when I contemplated finding volunteer manpower to help us, I knew I wouldn't be able to find anyone reliable enough (or potentially strong enough) to haul our desks, industrial shelving, filing cabinets, books, and did I mention a storage room with boxes stacked to the ceiling?! I asked around first, to other companies that had relocated, and heard a moving horror story about movers not showing up. Given that we had a date that we had to be outta there, I had no backup plan (or tolerance) for movers that would fall through. So I turned to Yelp and called Johnny the Mover. He said moving our offices would be no problem, and quoted me 4 guys, for 4 hours. Being the suspicious and cynical consumer I am, I pressed him on whether that many guys would be necessary--turns out, it *totally* was. He reassured me and cheerfully penciled me into the schedule, and I tried to tuck away my worst-case no-show worries. This story is an example of why worry isn't necessary. He not only called to follow up the day prior, he also called to reconfirm the morning of their arrival. Then these guys promptly rolled up in their truck, right on time for the move. They got straight to work, and MAN, do they work! I was re-packing one last box in my office and in the time it took to put everything inside and re-tape it, I turned around and they had carted away 20-odd other boxes. Houdini magic, I tell you! What would have taken me (and an army of unpaid volunteers) an entire day to efficiently pack in a truck, took these guys an hour and a half. BOOM! I thought. "Let's shave some time off this move!" They carefully drove to the site of our move-in and got straight to work. Now let me pause to mention our new office was located on the second floor of a walk-up... no elevator available. This is where the hard labor really began, and my deepest sympathies for their sweatiness extended. Nonetheless, they were courteous, professional, funny, and followed all instructions completely. AND, they finished almost exactly to the minute - 4 guys and 4 hours. Turns out they know what they're doing. They broke a floor lamp in the move, but to be fair, it was cheap quality and they apologized for it. That's the worst I can say, which isn't that bad at all. I've already handed out their card to another company looking to move, and I would highly recommend these guys to anyone. They're moving magicians, and all-around nice (strong) guys. There is no way to sugar-coat it, "Moving SUCKS." When we were scheduled to move from a condo in Kaka'ako to a home on a narrow street in Kamehameha, I knew I needed to hire movers. Moving in with friends several years back was stressful, I swore I would never do it again. So thanks to my favorite website for restaurants, hair stylist, contractors, and movers.....I turned to Yelp to request a quote from several moving companies. Luke from Malama Moving Co. dba Johnny The Mover responded to my request for a quote online very quickly quoting me at $120/hour for two movers, with a two hour minimum. They were available the day I was planning to move, which would allow me to plan the dreaded process of packing boxes, disassembling furniture, etc After receiving quotes from three of four companies with reputable Yelp reviews, Johnny The Mover was my choice thanks to excellent reviews by Yelp Queen Emi Hart, as well as that they didn't charge for driving to my place nor hidden charges. I really liked their straightforward pricing of $120/hour (2 guys) with the clock starting when they arrive at your location. On the day of the moving, three guys showed up. Al, the Foreman, with two other guys. In the end, having three movers helped as I had a lot of things. They did a great job wrapping the furniture I did not wrap (I had previously bought plastic shrink wrap and wrapped some items); however, for a pre-arranged $20 charge, they would shrink wrap all my items. This was great as it provided some extra grip for furniture (and somewhat of a protection). My movers were Al, Isaac, and Kalei. It was a really hot and humid day so I had the AC at my apartment and the new house on at full blast to try to make them feel comfortable. The house I moved to is older with three levels, so I give them credit for navigating steep stairs with as good as good be. I did have a couple items damaged, which I am not thrilled with but with tight corners, I expected. My only complaint is that the truck they used did not have a lift so I feel like they used extra time to load and unload my items, when if there was a lift, it would have decreased the time. In the end, the total move was four hours at $140/hour. Having the extra guy for $20/hour was totally worth it. Would recommend anyone moving to spend the $140/hour for three guys -over- the $120/hour for two guys. read more

Mover Kona and Kainoa are two heros! The dispatcher called that they will be 2 hours late because of short of staff, I was reluctant to agree due to conflict with other jobs already scheduled. Waiting patiently for 2 hours, Mr. Kona and Mr. Kainoa came and right a way, proceeded to move all the items, knowing that I was in a hurry. They finished the move within one hour. I am so relieved that I hired professional help and Johnny and his movers were awesome! I lived right across the street so I called for an estimate and asked if they had any boxes; it's first come first serve with the boxes if anyone gives them any, they had some and he saved them for me. That helped out so much bcs I didn't realize I had so much stuff! I also went to Loews myself to get some boxes because I didn't want to keep going back for more boxes in case other ppl needed. Loews has some awesome prices on their moving boxes! Spencer and Danny came in the morning after calling me to let me know they will be arriving soon. I also got a confirmation call days beforehand as well. I had 40+ boxes, suitcases, plastic bins, and even plastic bags, along with misc things like wall mirrors, brooms and mops plus some furniture and literally within an hour they had everything down the stairs and into the truck. Wow! That move would have taken me 3 days! Plus days afterwards to recover, as my best friend would say, "we ain't spring chickens anymore". My new place was three flights up so it took them longer to unload the truck. For 3 hours, 2 guys and a truck, it was $330. The guys were super nice and friendly, asking me where I wanted things and luckily for them I'm pretty easy so I didn't have many requests or big bulky furniture. If I would have known it was that easy, time saving and so worth the money, I would have called on them for my last 5 moves! read more

Mike and AVERY from Johnny the Mover are AWESOME !!! We rent in a condo building and our unit was sold by the owner. Luckily we we able to find another, bigger unit higher up in the building for less money. Yay ! But we had to move on very short notice. Boo! We have used Johnny the Mover perviously and were happy with their services so we gave them a call. Their dispatcher gave us a choice of days and times, which was very helpful. We wanted to get done early in the day so we asked for 8:00AM. MIKE and AVERY arrived promptly at 8:00. The first thing the did before coming inside was to remove their shoes. The took a quick look around and asked us where we wanted to start. They wrapped plastic around the stuff with drawers and treated everything with respect. They finished moving us in about two hours without any problems. Throughout the move they were courteous and careful. We have moved many times here and on the mainland and have never found a mover as good as Johnny the Mover. Quality service at an affordable price. They did an amazing job today helping my adopted mom move. Not only did they move everything with care, they actually helped to pack it up. When we arrived at her new residence, they actually hung up her clothes in her closet. They even helped situate the furniture so it fit nicely. I chose this company on the strong referral of a close friend of mine. He recommended that I talk to Renate. I'm so glad I did. It was a stressful situation on a lot of different fronts, but they came alongside us and made everything run smoothly. Kona and JK were so respectful of everything they touched. The job ended up taking nine hours, and they were total champs the whole time. I have never seen a moving company go to such lengths to be helpful and kind. I originally got a quote back in March through Yelp. Things didn't work out as planned and we didn't move when we thought we were going to. We recently found a new place and since most of our stuff was already in storage we hired a moving company through our storage to get our bulky stuff at our apartment. However, when I called to confirm the date (a couple of days before our move), they changed our quote to something outrageous (more than just a couple of hundred dollars) and we had to cancel. So in a panic, I remembered getting a quote from Johnny the Mover and decided to call them. Marcus was really friendly on the phone and was able to schedule a pick up for us on the day we needed to be out of our apartment. And they were able to schedule us early in the day, which we preferred. Our movers were Albert, Koa, and Dian(not sure of spelling). These guys were awesome! Very friendly, efficient, and quick. We were able to move out our things and into our new place in less than 2 hours (our new place is just a couple minutes away from our old place). I definitely would recommend them to family and friends. I hope it doesn't come to it, but if we need to move again we will definitely hire Johnny the Movers again. read more

We've used Movers in the past in both HI and CA. What I liked most about this company was the straight talk honesty in pricing from the get go. We went from a 3rd floor 1200 sq ft apartment to a 3700 sq ft 2 story forever home so we knew the work was too much for us 50yo's. They sent 4 string men and 2 trucks. I cannot even tell you how much sweat went into this job. I could not do what they do. Men were professional and barely took a break. They didn't damage anything, I maybe had a cracked dish that I didn't wrap properly and that was my fault. I had more damage from Ashley furniture delivery of 5 new items than this huge move.
