2 guys for $120 two hour minimum or 3 guys for $160 one hour minimum but was discounted to $150. Moving from Harborside to Extra Storage Space 1414 Kalakaua... only moving one queen bed, box spring, dresser, two sofas, 2 desk/table, chairs, end tables x4, and 3 bags of linens. One guy stays at the truck, two guys moving and then later one stays behind unassembling the frame for the couch, which we caught them wasting time while the last three items to be moved. For 3 guys. It took over 3 1/2 hours for this to be completed. The frame for couch actually fits in the elevator.... then when all was finally delivered was charged shrink wrap fee of $40 plus tax...omg nearly $600 spent. Glad that we went back to check on them or else two of three guys which were medium built was doing not sure what, the skinnest guy was left with unassembling something that was unnecessary. Although they were nice but we felt that they took advantage of time and not communicating with us when we called them 3 times to see if all was good (no answer which is fine but if you have a question or need to know to take things off... ask first!!!). When going to the storage unit down at King Street, they take the very far left line with all the cars turning to Ward or Pi'ikoi etc... They had at least 10 minutes head start and we drove by them taking the middle lane... omg! It takes 10 minutes to drive from Harbor court to the Storage unit and 2.2 miles. This was 1:30p in the afternoon!!! Lite traffic with no road work on a Tuesday. We just think it could have been done in less than 2 hours and our mistake was we had to go to a few places to check for apartments for rent... that we left them alone trusting they would move the items and not just decide to unassemble items without asking!! Wasting time with the skinnest dude doing the unassembling (and probably the strongest one there), one guy moving (whatever items left and shrink wrapping not so sure since we were busy checking out places for rent) and the other manning the truck when it's a secured building with 2 security guards at the loading dock. Not pleased with the taking the time however if we had overlook the "unnecessary" stuff... maybe we will use them again but watch them like a segarent major... Even when we paid them, we still tip them individually to show them we were grateful but not happy about the wasted time at the unit... arghhh. read more

BEWARE: like other listings I have read about stolen property, I am sad to report that some of our articles were stolen. This past week I had the pleasure of working with this company. Seriously, if you're looking for a good, trustworthy, hardworking moving company, you can't go wrong with these guys. There's no way I could have moved by myself, and they took really, really great care of me and my belongings, and literally never stopped packing and moving for over 7 hours, didn't run into any walls, didn't break anything. Rena, the manager, is just one of the best people you'll meet, truly watching over my things as if they were her own (I even trusted her enough to leave and get tip money because these guys earned every penny), helping the guys and I pack and move even though she was just supposed to be supervising, giving me emotional and moral support all day, including telling me to stop, sit and talk because it was pretty physically overwhelming for me. Ati did a great job of being the team leader, managing the guys, keeping the truck organized, keeping things motivated and moving until it was done.... Avery was so good at understanding what would and wouldn't work, including (thankfully) not letting them park the truck into a tree, knowing where things should go at the new place, taping some of my (already) broken furniture so it arrived unharmed. Just really experienced, intelligent and thoughtful. He actually hand carried my computer on his lap so it wouldn't get damaged on the drive to the new place. Mana was also so hardworking, kind, honest. A former football player just back on the island, he worked tirelessly all day, and my place we were moving out of had only stairs, and I have some really heavy stuff! The team worked well together, really some of the hardest working, kindest, most trustworthy movers I've ever met. I had to help them because, well... it was a much bigger job than any of us anticipated, and even though we were all filthy, bone tired and hungry by the end of the day, it was like a camaraderie formed. They kept a positive attitude with me and each other, rushed to make it in time for my condo building's 4pm cutoff, but really it took until almost 6pm and they finished the job. Resa was like a protective mother looking out for all of us (including intervening with my crazy landlady on my behalf during the move out). She even got us all a meal of McD's and we sat and ate together, carried some of my things in her personal car that wouldn't fit in the truck, and after the move was done, she and Mana went and got a television still at the old house that hadn't fit on the truck. My first move with Malama moving co (DBA Johnny the movers.) Koa, Isaac and Hutch came to move me. I gave Isaac my bar-que grill and cover, the coal starter, wood stump and other odd and ins. Took them 3 1/2 hours . They were nice and pleasant. When they finished and I was paying the bill. Kia ask if I would give the guys a tip. I apologized for not having any more money to tip. koa said he understood. I had all my boxes unpacked in a week and I couldn't find my vintage candy dishes, three black ones that were my mothers. I called to ask for them back and got no answer. I tried again and no answer. Try again on Monday the block my number. Beware they steel from your box.... Two ride in front while one goes through the box's looking for items they can make money on While they are driving to your new place. Do not use this company unless you move your valuables yourself. I did but forgot about those candy dishes. They aren't worth much money wise but they were my moms and I want back. If not BBB in Hawaii will know what going on an the police. read more

I called twice and the nervous guy in the office kept saying that two people called in sick which is a very weak and bad excuse. July 2011 Johnny the Mover moved me from Kaneohe to town. They even did a side-delivery to deliver my bed I was giving to friends, and set it up! Wonderful service, the guys that did the move were great. Good conversation, helpful tips for packing/moving in the future, respectful, just an all-around awesome experience. April 2013 Johnny the Mover came an packed up my little house, stored my belongings overnight, and delivered my belongings to Young Brother's the next day. Same awesome service as back in 2011, though different men in the packing/moving party. Marcus was very helpful from the beginning--explaining different moving options, how it worked, etc. He asked detailed questions to figure out what we needed and how to match us with the most cost-effective service. Marcus was able to fit us in with only a week's notice, and he even called two days before to confirm our appointment, which was appreciated. The movers Ati and Brady arrived early and were kind, efficient, and careful. Marcus had estimated our move would take 2-3 hours, and they were done in only 2! Move was as fast as it could be -moving from one high rise condo to another with two slow elevators did add some time to the move. BEWARE!! I was extremely dissatisfied with this company!! They hire independent contractors as drivers and have no control over them whatsoever. On my move from Kailua to Kailua, I had the worst experience ever with the driver "MARCUS" that showed up although the two workers were OK. The driver of the truck was extremely rude and I had to ended up calling the police after he started threatening me with physical violence 3/4 way into the move. He had showed up in a bad mood in the very beginning stating that the dispatcher had told him it was a small job and that "this was the type of job he would usually walk away from". This guy Marcus was a total basket case just waiting to explode that looked the part and absolutely did not belong in a service industry position of any type!! Kept talking about his kickboxing skills and tough life he had lived in NYC and Japan. Lol. What a joke!! If you do decide to use this company which would not give me any satisfaction by even returning my phone calls or messages after the incident, do it at your own risk! They bitch moan and groan about having an elevator in the building - even though they were told this upfront - and then they pout and pull a work stoppage all while I am paying them $ 160.00 hourly. We needed to move heavy things from our garage up and down spiral stairs in our house. It was a tight fit and we were worried about damage to the stairs, walls, or the pieces being moved. Johnny sent 4 guys who did the work in 1.5 hours. Most movers would have tried to do this with 2 people and I don't think they could have done it without resting a piece on a banister, or scraping a wall as they shifted balance, etc. We were happy to pay the 2 hour minimum for fast, efficient, and well executed work. If no stars was an option, that be my rating. I have extra room that I let my extended family use to store their items and they hired these guys. My cousin showed them where the exyra room was. Johnny the Mover put a king size mattress in my bedroom doorway, my nephews toy car on my sofa as well as a big entertainment set in my kitchen (they made it no where near the extra room in the back of my house). I didn't know how to approach these guys since English isn't their first language so I let it go. Btw, they knocked over my dogs water bowl and didn't say anything about it either. Interestingly enough, my drive way smelled like weed right after they left (whatever, that part is not my business). Today, they came back. I simply told them I cleaned up the mess they left and rearranged my home so I need to show them where everything is. They got mad cause I used the word "mess". They left without doing a thing. Pros: Able to make an appt on short notice Cons: TARDINESS - They were an hour late, which I suppose normally would not be a big deal. However, we were moving into an apartment complex so we had to reserve the elevator for a specific timeframe and once the time is up, we have to hand the rights over to the next tenant that reserved it. So losing an entire hour from that is a huge deal. TOO MANY BREAKS - Without exaggeration, one of the three movers took at least 4 smoke breaks that I witnessed. Which means there might've been a dozen more that I wasn't able to catch. Those smoke breaks cost me about $50! Considering each break was about 5min times a dozen breaks, and they were charging us $140 per hour. NOT EFFICIENT - (which I suppose is related to the above complaint). For lack of a kinder word, they were very stupid in their method of moving stuff. No strategy or plan whatsover. Lots of standing around asking each other what to move next and where, etc. We used Kama'aina movers twice in the past and let me tell ya, those guys know what they're doing! (Btw, I am not affiliated with Kama'aina in any way and the only reason why we didn't use them this time was because they were booked during the week we needed to move). Anywho... TOO EXPENSIVE - The only large items were the bed, dining table and tv console. Otherwise enough boxes for a 2 bedroom apartment. It took over 5 hours which totaled approximately $700 (this doesn't include my assisting for an hour). Keep in mind we had everything packed and all moved to the living room ready to go. The last time we used Kama'aina we had the same large items plus a huge couch and fish tank and twice as much stuff filling a large 4 bedroom house. The same number of movers only took 3.5 hours and charged $120/hr. Sometimes you DON'T get what you paid for. CARELESS - One mover flat out DROPPED my bookcase upside down. Another box was marked with the standard "This side up..." and we found it the next day upside down. Our microwave is completely scratched up on one side. We found some new dings on our once beautiful dining table. The list goes on. read more

Well 2x in a row we set up a meeting for them to come and scope out the place to see roughly what needs to be done and both times no call no show, we ended up calling to see whats going on and the last time the worker said "oh traffic was bad so I just decided to turn around" like ummm you don't wanna call anyone to let them know? In a complete panic I asked my building for a recommendation and they recommended Johnny the mover. They accommodated my LAST MINUTE REQUEST for the next day 9:30 am. They were on time!!!! whew!!!!! Professional, fast AND cheaper than the other guys. Plus they needed a second truck cuz I have a lot of stuff and they brought another in 20 minutes for only $80 more flat rate (basically the gas). The stress and panic from the disastrous day before went away with competent professionals to handle the job. I give 2 stars instead of 1 because the men that were sent to do the job were kind. The owner, however, is a complete jerk and cussed me out over the phone over his OWN mistake. We used this company in the past and they got the job done- so when we were looking for a mover for a piano we had purchased, we called Johnny. I told him that we were looking to move a 1920s cast iron (VERY HEAVY) upright piano and the job would require at least 3, maybe 4 men. I was quoted $150/hr. The morning of the job I showed up and there were 2 men there with zero equipment. They told me that they couldn't do the job because the piano was too heavy. The moving men were very nice and apologetic. They knew I had said 3 men told me they were sorry that the owner had only sent 2. Johnny himself literally cussed me out over the phone. Told me his men couldn't do it and that he didn't give a sh*t what I did... find someone else. I couldn't believe his language on the phone. When I mentioned Yelp... he dropped a few F bombs and I ended up hanging up the phone right then and there. They profess to be a Christian company and even have Jesus' name on their trucks... but the absolutely filthy language and customer service definitely showed a different side. We used them back in June of 2015 to move short distance and used them just to move the larger household items, bed, furniture, TV's etc. They arrived pretty much on time, the guys were friendly but very very slow moving. In the end what should have taken about 2 1/2 hours took nearly 4 at a cost of over $450.00. After we discovered Damage to our Sofa, 60 inch TV and several smaller pieces of furniture. After moving 4 times in the last 5 years and doing all the moves by myself I pretty much had it with the stress and exhaustion. I'm pretty bad at planning and got my day off before actually hiring the movers so I was in a pinch when the initial movers I was decided on didn't return my call. I ended up having to find a mover for a next day move and called about 8-10 companies and ended up settling on Johnny the Mover. Now I read the most recent yelp reviews and was a little nervous but I like to give companies the benefit of a doubt. Of the companies I called, they had the cheapest rate (heyyyy always looking for the most bang for my buck) and the fact they could do my last minute move request without hesitation was a winner for me. Johnny, I believe was the one who answered my call and let me know that they could do my move at 8:30AM; I would have 2 guys and a box truck for $110 an hour. On the day of the move I called at 8:30AM and was told that the guys were on the way, at 8:40AM, Chad and Fa' showed up with the truck and were ready to go. I already pre staged most of my boxes downstairs at my apartment and all they did was load it up and then they took care of my big items. I was asked if I wanted my mattress and couch wrapped up in plastic food wrap to which I replied "yes" and they took care of that before loading it in the truck, it took roughly 1 hour for them to pack my items from my studio sized apartment in an hour. When we arrived at my new apartment, unfortunately both loading zones were being used, I was worried they would keep the time running but they stopped the time and returned in about an hour to start bring all my items up, bringing up my items took a total of 1 hour. They were good on setting up my big items exactly where I wanted them and neatly stacking all my boxes and bins so I could get to them easily. At the end the total work time was a little over two hours but they charged me exactly $220, which was the said rate. I'm only knocking a star because I was unaware they would charge for wrapping my items so having my couch and mattress wrapped was an additional $30. Even though I would have still opted to have them wrapped, I would have liked if they told me there was an additional charge for that service. They also took a few things that I did not want for donation, which worked out well since I would have ended up tossing them to the curb and it was one less thing I had to worry about hauling out by myself. read more

We have moved five times in the past eleven years and two days ago we had our biggest move ever. Luckily for us, we hired a crew of four men from Johnny the Mover. They arrived on time and crew chief Damon greeted us with "Your stress is over and now we're going to make this your best moving experience ever!". They got right to work and it was amazing to watch these guys operate - they took the time to shrink wrap delicate furniture, worked as a team to pack the truck (keeping related items together), and were amazingly fast. You also don't expect movers to be friendly but every one of these guys were cordial and polite. They also took the time to ask key questions about certain items that required special care. We also requested that same day that they dump our trash (40+ large bags worth plus other odd items) and it was no problem (we originally were going to have another person collect it the following day so this saved us time). The move was a nine hour process but everything was packed and unpacked with precision, speed and care. To us, the pricing was reasonable and worth every penny. Johnny was accommodating in negotiating the total fee based on our needs. We've used other movers before but these guys were truly in a class all their own. John helped us move from one apartment to another in the Ala Moana area. He came out to our place to give an estimate and I was glad that his rates were much more affordable than other well-rated movers on Yelp. He is a cool guy with a friendly and hard-working team. Here is what he did that has prompted me to give him a great rating: - they were punctual and sent me status updates the night before the move and several times on the day of the move - got all my belongings without any scratches or marks. in addition to boxes, bags and knick-knacks, they moved two tvs and several pieces of furniture that were dis-assembled, packed and assembled properly - our new hallway is really narrow and they had to maneuver our chaise quite a bit to get it in. They made a little mark on the hallway wall during this process which was quickly cleaned up by John and his team - They were all friendly and happy in spite of hot weather and the physical stress of their job - I had some problems with our packing tape on the morning of the move out day but he was nice enough to make a quick trip to pick up new tape before coming to our place. It's the little things! - We had some unforeseen delays during the move (i.e. loading zone for the truck ended up being much farther than our building) but John was kind enough to not charge us for the extra time We would definitely use John's services again. I would not recommend this company to anyone, it was recommended to me. I witnessed one of the movers falling and dropped my belongings, he didn't apologize but the head mover did. I then noticed once I got to my new place that a lot of my furniture had dings, scratches, broken corners and the corner of my Italian leather couch has a gouge out of it. I will never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. They basically just need to move all my furnitures to the storage .. This is a 2 bedroom small appointment, but only one bedroom has furniture.. My move was done a couple of days ago and I was very unsatisfied with how long it took and with the lack of professionalism from the dispatcher. I was quoted $160 for 3 movers per hour which I was okay with in the beginning because it only took me and ONE other girl 2-3 hours to move my 1 bedroom apartment. The biggest items I had were 2 dressers, 2 small couches, and my queen sized mattress. I was not able to be on site when the movers were there. It took about almost 2 hours to move my stuff out of my 7.5 x 10 foot storage unit, the travel distance was 18 mins to my apartment and I verified with the driver that there was no traffic. When I called the first time to ask what was taking so long at hour 3 1/2, the dispatcher said, there was traffic because the Pali is down. Mind you, it was 10am, the movers were traveling down Kam Highway towards salt lake. If you know the island, you know there is very little traffic around that time in that direction. After explaining that I knew there wasn't traffic like that to the dispatcher, he hung up on me. My second attempt to figure out what was taking so long was 5 hours into it! I asked the movers directly first and they said they were almost done and that they placed my boxes in the rooms they were supposed to be in even though I expressed several times that I just wanted the stuff in my apartment, I don't care where it's at. The only thing I asked was to have my mattress and bed frame place in my bedroom. I then called the dispatcher again to see how much it was going to be at the 5 hour rate and told him that it didn't make sense that it took 5 hours for 3 guys to move my 1 bedroom apartment when it only took me and 1 girl to move the stuff without the proper equipment ( dolly ) 2-3 hours. He explained that they had a long path to push the dollys to bring my stuff in to the apartment and then hung up again. Finally, he calls back with my quote, $800!!!!!! Like what?! I totally could have paid for a Uhaul and asked my friends to move me in, but I didn't because my friend told me about this company and she had a great experience with them. After expressing how unhappy I was with the price and I compared to what she paid, a 3 hour job for $160, I was told that it was impossible that she paid that little, like I was lying about it. The dispatcher tried dropping the price to $750, like that made a difference. He then finally dropped it to $650 which is still completely over priced!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL. Please find an honest company that won't jack your prices up because you aren't on island at the moment to question it. read more
