After moving 4 times in the last 5 years and doing all the moves by myself I pretty much had it with the stress and exhaustion. I'm pretty bad at planning and got my day off before actually hiring the movers so I was in a pinch when the initial movers I was decided on didn't return my call. I ended up having to find a mover for a next day move and called about 8-10 companies and ended up settling on Johnny the Mover. Now I read the most recent yelp reviews and was a little nervous but I like to give companies the benefit of a doubt. Of the companies I called, they had the cheapest rate (heyyyy always looking for the most bang for my buck) and the fact they could do my last minute move request without hesitation was a winner for me. Johnny, I believe was the one who answered my call and let me know that they could do my move at 8:30AM; I would have 2 guys and a box truck for $110 an hour. On the day of the move I called at 8:30AM and was told that the guys were on the way, at 8:40AM, Chad and Fa' showed up with the truck and were ready to go. I already pre staged most of my boxes downstairs at my apartment and all they did was load it up and then they took care of my big items. I was asked if I wanted my mattress and couch wrapped up in plastic food wrap to which I replied "yes" and they took care of that before loading it in the truck, it took roughly 1 hour for them to pack my items from my studio sized apartment in an hour. When we arrived at my new apartment, unfortunately both loading zones were being used, I was worried they would keep the time running but they stopped the time and returned in about an hour to start bring all my items up, bringing up my items took a total of 1 hour. They were good on setting up my big items exactly where I wanted them and neatly stacking all my boxes and bins so I could get to them easily. At the end the total work time was a little over two hours but they charged me exactly $220, which was the said rate. I'm only knocking a star because I was unaware they would charge for wrapping my items so having my couch and mattress wrapped was an additional $30. Even though I would have still opted to have them wrapped, I would have liked if they told me there was an additional charge for that service. They also took a few things that I did not want for donation, which worked out well since I would have ended up tossing them to the curb and it was one less thing I had to worry about hauling out by myself. read more

We have moved five times in the past eleven years and two days ago we had our biggest move ever. Luckily for us, we hired a crew of four men from Johnny the Mover. They arrived on time and crew chief Damon greeted us with "Your stress is over and now we're going to make this your best moving experience ever!". They got right to work and it was amazing to watch these guys operate - they took the time to shrink wrap delicate furniture, worked as a team to pack the truck (keeping related items together), and were amazingly fast. You also don't expect movers to be friendly but every one of these guys were cordial and polite. They also took the time to ask key questions about certain items that required special care. We also requested that same day that they dump our trash (40+ large bags worth plus other odd items) and it was no problem (we originally were going to have another person collect it the following day so this saved us time). The move was a nine hour process but everything was packed and unpacked with precision, speed and care. To us, the pricing was reasonable and worth every penny. Johnny was accommodating in negotiating the total fee based on our needs. We've used other movers before but these guys were truly in a class all their own. We needed to move heavy things from our garage up and down spiral stairs in our house. It was a tight fit and we were worried about damage to the stairs, walls, or the pieces being moved. Johnny sent 4 guys who did the work in 1.5 hours. Most movers would have tried to do this with 2 people and I don't think they could have done it without resting a piece on a banister, or scraping a wall as they shifted balance, etc. We were happy to pay the 2 hour minimum for fast, efficient, and well executed work. John helped us move from one apartment to another in the Ala Moana area. He came out to our place to give an estimate and I was glad that his rates were much more affordable than other well-rated movers on Yelp. He is a cool guy with a friendly and hard-working team. Here is what he did that has prompted me to give him a great rating: - they were punctual and sent me status updates the night before the move and several times on the day of the move - got all my belongings without any scratches or marks. in addition to boxes, bags and knick-knacks, they moved two tvs and several pieces of furniture that were dis-assembled, packed and assembled properly - our new hallway is really narrow and they had to maneuver our chaise quite a bit to get it in. They made a little mark on the hallway wall during this process which was quickly cleaned up by John and his team - They were all friendly and happy in spite of hot weather and the physical stress of their job - I had some problems with our packing tape on the morning of the move out day but he was nice enough to make a quick trip to pick up new tape before coming to our place. It's the little things! - We had some unforeseen delays during the move (i.e. loading zone for the truck ended up being much farther than our building) but John was kind enough to not charge us for the extra time We would definitely use John's services again. I would not recommend this company to anyone, it was recommended to me. I witnessed one of the movers falling and dropped my belongings, he didn't apologize but the head mover did. I then noticed once I got to my new place that a lot of my furniture had dings, scratches, broken corners and the corner of my Italian leather couch has a gouge out of it. I will never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. If you do, fully inspect ALL your belongings prior to them leaving and you signing the happy and no complaints on their sheet :( read more

Finding Yelp was a good thing, Now I can write a review on these guys. We used them back in June of 2015 to move short distance and used them just to move the larger household items, bed, furniture, TV's etc. They arrived pretty much on time, the guys were friendly but very very slow moving. In the end what should have taken about 2 1/2 hours took nearly 4 at a cost of over $450.00. After we discovered Damage to our Sofa, 60 inch TV and several smaller pieces of furniture. When I contacted the company about it and asked for a call back, no one ever called back despite leaving 3 messages. Don't use these guys.... read more

Hands down - the best moving company ever. My roommates used them multiple times so I decided to give them a try. $120 a hour for 2 guys and a truck. I moved my couch, desk and grill from Kahala to Ewa Beach. These fellas completed the entire move in 1 hour !! My wallet was happy. They are very professional. They know that time is money so they hit the ground running. They showed up at my old place a little before the start time. I told them what I needed and BAM, it was a breeze. I used this company twice before.. I had pretty good experience with them.. So I decided to use them again.. But this time was way over priced .. They basically just need to move all my furnitures to the storage .. This is a 2 bedroom small appointment, but only one bedroom has furniture.. My family already moved all the boxes there ( Thank goodness)... Some how, They took 4+ hours to move with 3 workers.. and the storage is only half mile away on the same Blvd.. Unbelievable!!!! they wanted to charge me $720!!!! I was pretty upset.. I asked for 3 workers because I was told it should take about 2 hours or 3 the max.. Even though the workers are friendly & Pleasant, But they don't seem too experienced.. I keep telling them it's taking too long.. Because it wasn't like that the last couple times.. My move was done a couple of days ago and I was very unsatisfied with how long it took and with the lack of professionalism from the dispatcher. I was quoted $160 for 3 movers per hour which I was okay with in the beginning because it only took me and ONE other girl 2-3 hours to move my 1 bedroom apartment. The biggest items I had were 2 dressers, 2 small couches, and my queen sized mattress. I was not able to be on site when the movers were there. It took about almost 2 hours to move my stuff out of my 7.5 x 10 foot storage unit, the travel distance was 18 mins to my apartment and I verified with the driver that there was no traffic. When I called the first time to ask what was taking so long at hour 3 1/2, the dispatcher said, there was traffic because the Pali is down. Mind you, it was 10am, the movers were traveling down Kam Highway towards salt lake. If you know the island, you know there is very little traffic around that time in that direction. After explaining that I knew there wasn't traffic like that to the dispatcher, he hung up on me. My second attempt to figure out what was taking so long was 5 hours into it! I asked the movers directly first and they said they were almost done and that they placed my boxes in the rooms they were supposed to be in even though I expressed several times that I just wanted the stuff in my apartment, I don't care where it's at. The only thing I asked was to have my mattress and bed frame place in my bedroom. I then called the dispatcher again to see how much it was going to be at the 5 hour rate and told him that it didn't make sense that it took 5 hours for 3 guys to move my 1 bedroom apartment when it only took me and 1 girl to move the stuff without the proper equipment ( dolly ) 2-3 hours. He explained that they had a long path to push the dollys to bring my stuff in to the apartment and then hung up again. Finally, he calls back with my quote, $800!!!!!! Like what?! I totally could have paid for a Uhaul and asked my friends to move me in, but I didn't because my friend told me about this company and she had a great experience with them. After expressing how unhappy I was with the price and I compared to what she paid, a 3 hour job for $160, I was told that it was impossible that she paid that little, like I was lying about it. The dispatcher tried dropping the price to $750, like that made a difference. He then finally dropped it to $650 which is still completely over priced!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL. Please find an honest company that won't jack your prices up because you aren't on island at the moment to question it. read more

Moving to the mainland is a giant hassle! Was looking for a company last minute (2 weeks before move) to pack up some of my bigger items, take my stuff down to DHX and place it in pallets. This company was the only one that had availability for my date, and answered my phone call right away. Their quote was reasonable as well. Got a reminder phone call the day prior to confirm. On the day of the move, the guys showed up early, were ready with supplies, and were very quick and professional. Took my stuff down to DHX and organized everything in pallets for me. Let's face it, moving blows. Stuff gets damaged, it's unorganized, and stressful. Johnny the Mover was as good as it gets in my experience. I can't give them 5 stars because they forgot to bring the wardrobe box we requested and we had to spend another few hours moving clothes ourselves. They also caused minor damage to our couch, but were accountable and honest, which is more than I can say for many other companies. Their communication was great, they stayed true to their estimate, and were more reasonable than other big companies. Both the staff in the office and the guys came out to move us were a pleasure to deal with, very professional. I will use them again next time I need to move something. read more

I used Johnny The Movers recently to move out of an apartment into a POD storage unit. I had a great experience. Coordinating a big move between islands stressed me out (car, dog, house, job, etc) so I very much appreciated that Johnny The Movers called to confirm the appointment, called before they got there in the morning, and that I was able to call their cell phone when we were all driving to the storage location. The guys were very careful with our heavy, fragile items, which we had created flimsy custom boxes to protect. Next time I'll leave that part to the professionals. The movers that helped my wife and I relocate on the island were friendly and worked efficiently. None of our items were damaged during the move. The only problem I had was the minor detail of their ability to get on base. The claimed to have base access. They weren't wrong, but failed to mention they needed me to sponsor them on. We moved from Waialua to Makakilo last year and thought they did a fantastic job, so we decided to go with them again. It took them 6-7 hours with 2 guys then, and with the same amount of stuff, we decided to go with 3, thinking it would be more efficient. Wrong. It took 3 guys the same amount of time, AND we even took the liberty to disassemble the bunk bed and crib for them and not have them put it back together, as this took long last time. AND we only moved from Makakilo to Ewa Beach! How does that make sense? When my husband tried to complain about it, one of the workers got testy with him and was making snyde remarks like "How much help do you think you did?" since my husband did help them carry boxes upstairs at the new house. When I tried to make a complaint, the dispatcher Marcus was VERY rude on the phone, not letting me explain myself, and when I tried to tell him one of their workers was rude, he said "Oh now you're just coming up with more reasons to complain!" I asked for his superior's info so I could take it at a higher level, but he hung up the phone on me. Oh, and they also left a bunch of stuff in the back patio which I didn't notice till after they left. 2 of the 3 guys were nice, but just so you guys know, one of the guys told us they get paid by the hour. So, the longer they take, the more they get paid...got it? I do NOT recommend this company. Rude dispatcher, sloppy job, unprofessional staff. How do you keep a business like that? It has been over 7 years since my experience with this business AND it still bothers me so I've decided I need to warn others! I'm a single mother of (2) Special Needs kids and had 'hired' "Johnny the Mover" to help me move; I had a deadline too! On the day that he was suppose to arrive at 8:00am, he (& helpers) did not show up so I waited till (9:00am) then called him. He apologized and promised to be in Mililani by (10:30), saying he had to do a quick 'run' to Kailua first. By (12:00n) I called again, and he said he'd be on his way once they finished eating lunch! He strung me along all day! Finally he stopped answering my calls! I was STUCK!! I had to be out of the house in (1) more day! I was ANGRY and Upset!! I highly recommend Johnny The Mover! They were true to their word and charged a flat hourly rate with no hidden fees. The moving truck showed up on time and they finished about an hour early. The schedulers and the movers were all courteous and friendly. I forgot to give them a tip at the end but was able to call and do it over the phone using my credit card. I was contacted by one of the workers because of the review I left previously. They said they would purchase another drawer for us. We waited for them the WHOLE day on the day they said they would come, they never came. We called them many times during that day because my mother had to tend to business and was going to leave as soon as they arrived. They kept giving us excuses and wasted our time. Eventually, they stopped answering her calls. They ended up coming the day after that with their shoes on in our house. The guy even attached it the wrong way so there is an extra hole in it. It is damaged. They are still VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. And since I am writing another review it won't allow me to give them another 1 star but that is what I would give them AGAIN. read more
