Several months ago I bought a Lexus for my wife. At the time we were told the car had a small…read morescrape on the left front fender which had been repaired. I looked at it and couldn't see any defect. Later, my wife went to a carwash. The wash peeled off some paint from the left front. I took the car back and delt with a young man named Daniel. I half expected to have to argue. I was wrong. He immediately took responsibility and fully owned the problem. His manager had to inspect and approve the repair. On his inspection, he noticed a slight mar on the hood that I had missed. Without me asking, they approved sending the car to a body shop to totally strip down the fender and hood and repaint both. We were given a rental car, at their expense. Most reviews never refer to how a business handles an honest mistake or error, unless it is to chastise the business. However, if our words of criticism are to be taken seriously, then our words of praise for customer service must be spoken as well. Over the past 20+ years I have purchased many vehicles from CarMax. This was the first time I had to take a problem to them. The way Daniel handled this issue has reinforced my confidence in CarMax.

Carmax has been too busy, appointments are 2-3 months out for a repair through the warranty. The only repair shop that accepted Assurant was 1 1/2 hours away from me. I had to file a formal complaint against the repair shop with Assurant the mechanic did such a horrible job with a simple repair. I have had to use outside mechanics to fix the repairs. However, Assurant finds every loop hole possible to deny a claim. I don't believe Carmax did their 125 point inspection on the van I bought. Had they done the inspection, the short in my van would have been discovered. Instead, I have had five breakdowns requiring immediate towing. Carmax service department has not even returned the last few calls I made trying to get an appointment for repair under the warranty. I find the majority of mechanics do not wish to deal with Assurant Warranty as it is too time consuming and the representatives have been rude and not well trained and are quick to deny coverage. I bought a car in Los Angeles from Carmax and had a great experience. However, this Carmax in Augusta, GA, does not even come close to the same standards.

Due to my experience, I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. After my vehicle stalled on Washington Road due to an auto start/stop failure, I brought it to the dealership. Despite my prior research identifying a specific recall and extended warranty issue (23-009) related to my Honda Pilot, the service department failed to address it. They performed two service bulletins (23-008 and 23-010) but ignored the warranty extension. This oversight led to a dangerous situation while I was traveling on I-95, where my vehicle stalled in traffic and failed to restart. Upon returning to the dealership, the staff refused to acknowledge their failure to complete the necessary service bulletins or address the rear suspension recall. Furthermore, the Service Manager, Colby, was unprofessional and dismissive of my concerns. The dealership subsequently attempted to charge me $1,900 for a starter replacement that is directly covered under the recall and extended warranty. Given the lack of accountability and the safety risks caused by their incomplete service, I am deeply disappointed in the quality of care provided by this dealership.
