Always such a great experience with Malek Al Kabob. We recently walked in to order takeout. The service was super quick - I only waited about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. The food was delicious and still a great temperature by the time I got home and plated for my family. I've seen this restaurant sooooo many times and yet never stopped,never went in, never ate there. Until I DID! And I am so glad I did! We were greeted so warmly and seated immediately. Our server, bus boy, and supporting staff was so welcoming. The area was full of customers and the clanging of cooking utensils and the small chatter made the atmosphere very cozy. And then the food came, ahh the food. Hot and steaming, smelling of the herbs and spices, bountiful and nutritious. The selection we made was a platter made for two. So beautiful, bountiful, nutritious, and delicious. We chose grilled vegetables instead of the rice or noodles( less carbs). Lamb, chicken, beef and vegetables. Yummy. A bit pricey; decent food; mediocre service; decent dining room. Three of us shared a small fattoush with grilled chicken, two falafel sandwiches, fries, and a minty lemonade: $45 Fattoush was good, as was the grilled chicken. The minty lemonade was tasty. The falafel sandwich was simply gross: tasted like it was made from a cheap mix -- both the texture and color (see pic) were off. Definitely would not recommend. The fries were surprisingly good. We also enjoyed the red spicy garlic sauce. The service was not great. Our weirdly cheerful server, Oksana, was serving multiple tables, and was quite busy -- we had to flag her down to get our bill after she visited our neighboring table THREE times without checking in on us. All this while three young bearded stood behind the counter watching the dining room but doing little but scroll on their phones and talk to each other. Another three bearded young men, apparently cooks, sat in a back corner table on their phones... one of them wore black (latex?) gloves and continued to wipe his nose, lips, and forehead! Atmosphere: The dining area is clean, comfortable and very casual. I like that they don't play music which allows for conversation with friends or whoever you are eating with. The temperature is comfortable however, if you sit near the door you could get cold in the winter. Food: The food is excellent. I always get any of the meals with chicken. Sometimes I get rice and sometimes I get French fries. The Chicken has a lot of flavor and fries tend to be extra crispy which is excellent. Overall: I love this place, my only challenge I have had is that I ordered takeout once and they gave me beef instead of chicken. I went back and they swapped it out with no issues. It has been several years since I have been to Malek Al Kabob, but good food never changes. And that's what brings me back. They are open for lunch and dinner (10am-10pm) and you get an authentic Middle Eastern feeling in this restaurant. Pretty decent. Got a fattoush with tawook. They use a bag salad mix so it does have cabbage and carrots in it not your traditional romaine. The chicken was placed piping hot on the salad they don't separate it like other places do when you get a to go so my feta was melted in the wilted lettuce- my only complaint. Absolutely delicious and authentic food. One thing I didn't know about Detroit's surrounding area is the fact that it is popular for Middle Eastern cuisine. I came with my then-boyfriend who recommended this place that was in his neck of the woods. I ordered falafel wrap and he got the gyro plate. The wait time was quick and the food came out hot. The pita bread was fluffy and soft. My then-boyfriend mentioned that the gyro meat was tender. The falafels were the best that I've ever had. Not too bready or chewy. It was perfectly cooked and well seasoned! The ambiance was weird, the guys/servers were staring at me and my then-boyfriend a lot. It made me feel a bit uncomfortable and I didn't understand it. What a disappointment. They had good reviews, but I couldn't be more disappointed with the food and the service. They state to let them know about food allergies yet they are completely clueless when it comes to gluten. Twice I told them I couldn't eat the bread. Then the salad has pita chips on it. I ordered the lamb kabobs med rare, and it was raw as you can see from pic. I send it back, and it comes back an inedible well done. Needless to say, I WILL NEVER COME BACK. read more

She says would you like hummus for the table, we said sure, was made to sound complimentary, I ordered the boneless chicken many many times, when it came it was swimming in pink stuff? It was still good so I ate it, didn't complain, when she came back, and forgot our to go order, i asked her what was the sauce? Our lemon oregano she replied, I didn't order it? Big location. Everyone can easily stay spaced out here. The tables in the main dining area are spread apart as well. They are so busy with carry out orders but still gave us decent enough service tonight. Took our order and dropped off our food oh and to drop off the bill. They have the QR code on the table for their menu. All places should do this so you don't have to touch a dirty and grimy menu or print out paper menus all day every day either. We ordered the combination for two with only chicken kebabs, chicken kafta, chicken breast, lamb and chicken shawarma, large salad, hummus. The combo makes it simple for our order. We are quite hungry since our earlier spot didn't work out as they didn't practice social distancing at all. Oh dear, they have a pita oven, can't have any bread, makes me so sad. We had to pass on the fresh pita. The house salad was crisp and fresh. The dressing is a nice vinaigrette. The sizable platter was out within 5-7 minutes of ordering or so. The chicken kafta meat is the most flavorful and nicely grilled too. The chicken breast, chicken kebabs were cooked but rather dry. A marinade might have given it a bit of flavor and moisture too. The lamb shawarma meat is tasty and moist too. The chicken shawarma meat was moist but too bland. The half hummus was okay, bland and not the creamiest or smoothest either. The meats all come on a mound of rice, we couldn't eat that either. Gave up all the bad for us carbs. It's a good deal for $39.21, you get quite a bit of food and some leftovers too. read more

The food is authentic and SO good. Great flavor, bold but balanced. Service is very courteous as well. On our second visit, our group of 3 noticed an automatic 18% gratuity on each of our checks. Bit of a bummer surprise. ALLERGY: We told the waiter no nuts or almonds, but there must have been residue from almonds on the food, because my body reacted slowly but surely to something on the otherwise delicious lamb chop. Best middle eastern food I've encountered downriver! I've dined-in pre-covid times and the food is always delicious and the staff is phenomenal. This review I'm writing as I just experienced the online order/take out (active covid times) experience and can happily say the quality of the food is just as great as dining in! The staff is all wearing masks/cleaning / has a designated to-go food table that only they can touch AND they will not serve customers if not wearing a mask. I felt very safe with the handling of COVID at this business. I can't recommend this place enough - large portions, delicious food, and great staff. Do yourself a favor and order extra so you can have leftovers! :) I ordered the Vegetarian Gallayah and Shish Tawook (+lemon oregano) for myself and was able to get 2-3 meals out of each entree. I'm going to start this review saying that this used to be my very favorite Arab food restaurant in the Metro Detroit area. I used to love their food and we ate there very regularly. We would mostly get take out, and even though they messed up the orders on multiple occasions, and the quality would sometimes drop, we stuck with them. Until recently. Since the pandemic, their service and prices have been ridiculous. I get that prices have increased, but they seemed to be the first to set the new high bar in price for Arab food. I placed an order last night over the phone and was quoted a price that was higher than the usual price for what we ordered just last year. They quoted $59.33, which is at least $5 more than what I paid last year WITH the tip. Frustrating, but that's the state of the ogliarchy. So, I go to pick it up, and I'm quoted over $66 dollars without tip. I told them this was not what I was quoted and he just argued with me politely. I told them they could keep the food and walked out. I have been a loyal customer of this place and sang their praises for years, but never again. I'm done paying more money so they can pay all of their cousins and brothers to stand around while they only have 2 or 3 tables of customers. I went to this restaurant because of a recommendation of a friend. I went to get takeout, I hadn't ordered in advance. The music in the restaurant was too loud, and I'm hard of hearing. The man who took my order was not friendly at all, in fact he was rude. He never asked my name. It was a simple order, but he told me it would be 15 minutes, so I took a seat in the waiting area. He never called me up to get my order even though he could clearly see me sitting there. Others came in to pick up their orders from a table in front and to the side of the cashier and I noticed a bag sitting there for about ten minutes. I went up to check the receipt and it was what I ordered so I took it. I had ordered a Fattoush without the pita chips, but when I got home it was only a house salad. I understand there are cultural differences at play here, and I am female. But if you are going to treat half your customers rudely and cheat them because of their sex, you will lose them eventually. I will never go to this restaurant again and I informed my friend of my poor experience. read more

Came here for a business lunch and it was a great spot for it. Lunch was definitely active but we had a booth and were able to have our conversation without difficulty. It's a family friendly atmosphere and maybe some couples too. The food was great, generous servings and the wait was modest (definitely anticipated waiting longer considering how many other people were dining in and getting carry out). We both got shawarma sandwiches and a hummus plate to share. Pricing is healthy too, not at all unreasonable for a quick lunch. read more
