A recent meal of mujadara found the lentils to be incredibly dry and weirdly smashed, served with a salad that had some of the saltiest dressing I've ever consumed. Ordered the veggie combo, shawarma combo with hummus and house salad and a quart of carrot, orange and ginger juice. The hummus was okay, the falafel was dry to me and the veggie grape leaf wasn't bad. My husband liked his Chicken meat with the garlic, the hummus and salad were good for him, he said he would have preferred the chicken on top of rice, but that would have been considered an extra side, it was on a bed of pita instead. The tabouli tasted old and not very fresh. I have had it freshly made before and it's such a distinct taste of freshness that can't be compared. The house salad was okay but there were several romaine veins and I even got a chunk of the butt of the romaine and then there were big chunks of onion too. My go to place for a number of tasty vegetarian options. In an effort to eat a healthier diet and to reduce my carbon footprint, I'm trying to eat less meat. Shish Kabob's menu helps me achieve this goal. The Mojadra, Hummous Tabboule, Hummous Fattoush, Vegetarian Ghallaba, Falafel Sandwiches are ALL fantastic veggie options for lunch. I usually pair one of these sandwiches with a cup of crushed lental soup or with a side salad. The raw juices are great too. The only thing that is not good here is the garlic sauce. Other Mediterranean restaurants make it light, fluffy and full of garlicky flavor that you can't get enough of. At this place it is thick, heavy consistency of lard with bland flavor like eating paste. It was weird and disappointing because I typically like using it on my sandwiches. Overall the food is delicious. It is fresh, well priced and prepared quickly to order. The service is always professional and courteous. Order ahead to avoid waiting because this place is extremely busy with its dine in customers, Uber eats and other delivery services, catered orders and pick ups. We visit the Clarkston location on the regular and heard that they had an Allen Park location. Decided to give it a try to compare and were pleased that the food was very similar. Hummus is always delicious, the rice almond salad was fresh and did not lack slivered almonds! The owner was very friendly and the service was fast. I wanted to give a new spot a chance since I just moved into the area. I usually go to Taylor Kabob...but maaaaaaaaan, I should've gone a couple miles down the road to it again. First of all, I paid almost $24 for the items in the picture. Sigh. Then when I tasted it...everything is way inferior. The garlic is bland. The chicken is underwhelming and dry. The salad is in huge pieces like an American salad. It is just not as good. My daughter was so disappointed because she loves schwarmas but neither of us could finish our meals. We stopped in on a whim. My first impression when walking in was a whiff of too much cleanser. But the place seemed clean. Nothing fancy. People were ordering and taking trays back to the table. There didn't appear to be table service. We ordered a fattoush, boneless chicken, hummus, rice and a sandwich, to go. It took 10 minutes or so. Counter staff was nice. Total was about $40. But the chicken was dry and had clearly been warmed up, not cooked fresh. Some parts were not even chewable. The hummus was probably the blandest I've ever had. The lamb sandwich was large and ok. The salad, a large, barely filled the container. It was ok. The side of rice had a big glob of some sort of sauce on it. And lastly, the pre-bagged bread wasn't fresh at all. We weren't impressed at all. With so many fantastic middle eastern restaurants in the area, it was a real disappointment. I doubt I will return. read more

Talk about going above and beyond for your customer! This place NAILED it. I went in after work on "my" Friday. I was hungry, tired, and was craving my favorite type of food--Middle Eastern. Some of my coworkers ordered it for lunch, and I was still thinking about that enticing smell. I ended up ordering the half order of deboned chicken with the rice pilaf side and upgraded to a tabouli. I got extra garlic as well (shocker). I'm not sure if the gentleman helping me was the owner, but regardless, he was extremely pleasant and helpful. First, he asked if I had any questions about the menu. I love when education, explanations, and recommendations are offered (especially when you're new to the place)! After I placed my order, I waited in the dining area. He offered me a complimentary smoothie on the house! How could I resist? This was the perfect refreshment after a long day, and I will DEFINITELY be ordering it again; I think it was banana/strawberry...sooo good. The man again checked in, letting me know my food was almost done and took a bit longer because everything was being made fresh. I have nooooo problem waiting for THAT! The end result was stellar: The food, perfect. Utensils, napkins, sides, etc., were all on point (Are your EARS burning, Christoff's?? errrr). The best part was seeing they included an entire BAG of fresh pita for me! This saved me a trip, as I was out of fresh pita at home! I would say more about the food, but it was perfect! Chicken was seasoned and juicy, and the tabouli was perfect. The rice included vegetables as well. I will definitely be back, and will be recommending this establishment! My wife and I stopped in on a Friday recently. We walked in, were greeted, then the woman that greeted us literally disappeared. We sat at our table for 11 minutes, then we left. There's really not much else I can tell you about the place, except that there was only one other couple in the entire place. That should tell ya something. This place does have really, really good food, but it falls short on the dining in option. All I wanted was to get a great tasting Chicken Schwarma sandwich... close to Ford... and to have it be relatively decent priced. Well, I got 2 out of the 3... I stopped by here after a meeting, and I was really feeling some Schwarma and Hummus. It was later than the normal lunch hour, so there wasn't much of a line.. and I was able to spend some time studying the menu so that I could get an idea of what I was about to order. They had a buy 4 get the 5th Chicken Schwarma Sandwich deal going on... which was just a crazy idea... (for me at the time) but I found a 'combo meal' that had both the Schwarma and the Hummus... and thrown in was a beverage of your choosing. Ordered it up... and then... $12. I was a little hesitant, but then I said to myself.. "Hey, maybe its fantastc..." I filled my beverage up, and sat down waiting for my order to be called. They called my order, and I went and retreived it... and just to my dismay.. there was a very hodge podge meal sitting in front of me. The sandwich was rather small.. very lacking in the "Wow what a great sandwich" category, but it was Chicken Schwarma... and that part made me happy. The hummus.. was slapped together in a giant styrofoam carry out container. Way too much for one person to eat. Probably enough for maybe 4 to eat. I was a little perplexed by all of this... My first visit to Shish Kaboob Express was for a falafel sandwich run. I tried the garlic paste, pita bread and crushed lentil soup. The falafel was good and flavorful (I added hummous). Note I don't like a great deal of salt, so my taste buds may be different from most. The garlic paste was not too garlicky and went well with the flat pita bread. It was economical for under $10 and included a beverage. The wait was as quoted. I was in and out within 10 minutes. I am used to the creamier crushed lentil soup, but the soup was still hearty here (a little more chunky). I would return for a sandwich as it was a decent sandwich and priced under $5. read more

I've stopped by here many times while shopping on the hill or grabbing something quick in between classes. Normally I get a shish kabob sandwich since it's typically more healthy than shawarma but today I ordered a beef shawarma and it was actually good. I'm normally pretty picky with middle eastern food. My tip is to add romaine lettuce and turnips for a little more crunch :) I don't like their vegetarian grape leaves but I like their smoothies (strawberry, banana, and honey is my usual).
