Dr Kaufman is meticulous and intelligent and has a reputation in the medical community for being…read morethe finest MOH's surgeon. He explains that what you want is a surgeon who will give you "the best scar," and he's exactly correct. I extensively researched MOH's surgeons to remove a basal cell carcinoma on a complicated part of my nose, right in the middle of my face. To say I was terrified after receiving this diagnosis would be an understatement. After a handful of consultations with recommended doctors around Los Angeles, I saw Dr. Kaufman (who's an hour outside of LA) and confirmed he was the surgeon for me. He uses a visual aid to explain the procedure and said he doesn't do skin grafts because they can become dislodged too easily (i.e. you bump your nose while sleeping). This and other well-thought-out explanations were key to my decision. My scar is small and colorless. The symmetry of my nose (one of his concerns) is intact. He was affable my first visit and a little crusty another time, but I was prepared for that because I was told his bedside manner is not his strong suit. I believe it's because his brain cells are wired to do excellent detail work that he cares deeply about, and are only sometimes fully accessible for social interactions. Although he did explain the procedure well and is an excellent teacher. The one casualty of the bedside manner issue was that because of the tight time schedule, I might not have received the best wound care instruction from the nurses, which is also integral to getting the best scar. I was told after it was too late that it would have been important to (gently but) thoroughly wash away the crusty dead skin cells around the stitches as they form. The office recommended using Bioderm cream, which worked well. Buy it from them (or whatever they're recommending) as I've heard reports of counterfeits sold on Amazon. I would add that - in my research - saline solution for cleaning the wound and vaseline before bandaging seemed to be the way to go, so I used that protocol. Apparently, hydrogen peroxide destroys fibrinogens and antibacterial ointments interfere with elements of cell regrowth. If Dr. Kaufman's recommends some other protocol, I'm sure that's great too. A cosmetic surgeon recommended opaque coverage of the area from the sun while walking/hiking outside for an entire year and said many of his patients don't leave the house for two weeks after a surgery like this because the sun is the enemy with regard to preventing visible scars. Lastly, if you're reading this because you have to have a MOH's surgery for basal cell carcinoma, I'd say, have courage, you'll feel so much better when you're on the other side of it. I'm glad I went with Dr. Kaufman. Go with whomever you feel comfortable with and good luck!

It's been a number of years since my mohs surgery but I would never recommend Dr. Kaufman…read more He didn't explain anything to me and was actually rude during my hours long procedure. His nurses didn't give me clear instructions and when I questioned him on my follow up visit he said they should have told you this. I am permanently scared and maybe would have been anyway but he was insensitive and less than understanding.

I frequently need full-body skin checks, and in the past, I would have preferred seeing a female doctor. However, Dr. Bastien completely changed that perspective for me. He is professional, compassionate, and exceptionally skilled at what he does. I always feel comfortable in his care and confident that I am receiving the best possible treatment. He is truly brilliant and does a wonderful job. Highly recommend!

Unprofessional management and rude staff! Horrible experience, I would STAY AWAY!!!…read more Quick Summary: The office staff is incredibly rude and seems completely untrained in basic customer service. When I tried to speak to a manager about the attitude at the front desk, I was met with hostility instead of help. It is a toxic environment. They also botched my excision. Save yourself the stress and find a dermatology office that actually respects their patients. Also possible excessive fraudulent billing! Full Experience: I regret ever coming here!!! My initial experience should have been a red flag! I was met by a condescending and hostile receptionist when I was initially questioning billing and procedures at the front desk. I was so dissatisfied with the service that I decided to leave. Management ended up giving me a call and apologizing about the experience and was able to accommodate me with Dr. Singh the next day if I wanted to continue. I unfortunately obliged and was met with a botched excision in the aftermath. During this entire process I asked multiple times that my insurance covers the procedure and they stated yes this is an in office visit and it's covered minus copay. Dr. Singh has been kind and probably the only professional there but I have lost confidence since my second surgery which was to revise the initial botched scar excision. My scar has become much bigger and pronounced now! Also have bald spot due to this! I'm really upset!!!! To make matters worse, they are now billing me an excess amount whereas this should be covered by insurance as they also validated. At this point I don't know if they are over-billing and just stiffing the clients!! Seems they even billed me for a 2 minute phone call question with the doctor. During this fiasco I asked to speak with billing manager Debbie whom was extremely rude and unprofessional. Each time I tried explaining the situation, she would constantly talk over me not allowing to get my message across, I told her I would not deal with ever again and to have her direct superior contact me! As of 1 week ago, no one has called yet they keep spamming my phone regarding the fraudulent outstanding balance. I would not send anyone I care about here!!! Save yourself the stress, pain and heartache from the botched procedures and unprofessionalism!
