I started seeing (no pun intended) Dr. O'Conner in 1994! He's a fantastic optometrist. He is caring and knowledgeable and his attention to detail is impeccable. Jennifer is also very helpful and knowledgeable as his assistant. And Sal is smart and kind hearted. I wear contact lenses and have gone through different types of lenses over the years. I have astigmatism so it's not always easy to get the exact right Rx, but Dr O'Conner and Jennifer and Sal are always very patient. When I started to need progressive glasses, Sal & Dr. O'Conner were super supportive in getting them just right for me. After all these years, I am still an extremely happy patient at Malibu Eye Center! I had been going to Malibu eye center for 8+ years and always loved the Dr., staff and the frames they offered: The last time I had my eyes checked the prescription ended up being too strong and had to have my eyes rechecked. Once rechecked and I had the correct prescription, my frames were sent in with the wrong prescription. I called several times, over several months, left several messages to correct this situation and get the correct prescription in my frames. Unfortunately, no one ever called me back, not even when I left a message for the Doctor, to try to fix/correct the mistake. Now I am out $400 and a pair of frames. I have contemplated many times to write this review or not, but at the end of the day it is extremely disappointing to have been a long time patient/customer and be treated this way. read more

I went to Malibu Eye Center for the first time two years ago. Not only is their selection of frames outstanding, but Sal will give you expert advice on the best designs in terms of fashion as well as practical needs. I was extremely happy with their services. This year, there was a problem with one of the lenses of my new glasses. The company tried to correct it, but it still wasn't quite right. Thanks to Sal's guidance, it was finally determined that my original prescription (from another ophthalmologist) was incorrect. Once I brought in the corrected prescription, I received my new glasses within one week, at no charge. I was not only impressed with Sal's expertise but with the courteous way in which he handled the situation, every step of the way. read more

They keep all of my records and are very professional, not to mention it is conveniently located. The entire staff has been there many years and they all know what they are talking about because they've been doing it for a very long time. Was in the area and my son had bent my sunglasses frame. I'm stopping for a quick lunch I noticed the store and thought I would ask to see if they could help adjust my glasses. It looked a little bit busy but one of people were happy to help me out with regards to adjusting my frame. Took 2 minutes and my glasses are back to new. I entered the store to purchase a pair of sunglasses. I was trying on few of them and all of a sudden the owner or whoever that person was grabbed sunglasses and told me and other customers to get out of the store Immediately. This was unbelievable. Then he started insulting us and he called us thefts. He noticed our cultural background through our language and began discriminating us. I have never been in this situation before. Such a shame. This is one of the two eyeglasses stores that I visit when I am in Malibu. I LOVE this store and all the top brands it carries. That said... Here is the rest.. Yes, reflective of the other reviews that have noted a few things about this store that happen to be true, I can vouch for these certain things.. 1). Salvatore is one of the people that I dealt with while I was in the store and he is an extremely knowledgeable person, albeit, has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He will view you as a person who knows nothing at all about glasses, brands or the industry. That's understandable. Imagine you are in his shoes and all day long people come into the store, handle the merchandise and are not careful when picking up or putting back that merchandise. He must treat you with respect, but if you don't respect the store or the merchandise than his disfavour of you will come through rapidly. 2). Do not view this store as a one stop shop. It is not. You want to get a prescription filled here ...okay. You want to see the staff optician here okay. But if you have any complicated situations going on with your eyes...go see an optician that operates as an optician and an optician ONLY. This is primarily a glasses store.... HIGH END glasses store. 3). I agree that the staff here at this store need to be a bit more down-to-earth and less hoity-toity. That behaviour is generally unacceptable and especially in the Malibu area where people with money are looking for a relaxed shopping experience. 4). You will not find any other designer glasses anywhere else in the immediate area. They have a corner on the market. This is where you will find one-of-a-kind, last pair possible, One of maybe 25 made, etc. That is quite the cache and honor to be able to have a store that can provide this type of inventory. In summary, Get to know Salvatore and his staff. They all have a story and are great people to get to know. They know everybody in town. (don't think they don't) I have my eye on a pair of Chanel sunglasses that are completely "to-die-for".... I MUST have them before the month end. read more

This is the worst place I have ever been to for eyewear and customer service hands down in my entire life. My husband and I spent over $2500.00 in eyewear, not including eye exams and 2 of the 3 pairs of glasses we purchased broke and had problems. We went in 4 times to have the glasses repaired and were met with offensive service by the so called manager SAL. He dismissed us each time like he didn't care, didn't give us updates when they were ready and made us feel stupid for even bringing them in. After the second pair broke for the 3rd time, that alone were almost $1000.00 my husband was so frustrated that he didn't even want to bother bringing them in, to avoid dealing with Sal. I finally brought them in and asked for a refund, to which I was denied and yelled at by Sal, making me feel like I was the problem and not at all assisting the actual issue, which was the broken glasses. After arguing with him, he took my phone number and told me he would call the glasses company DITA "in a week" and see what they'll do. I mean what the hell? No refund and no real plan of action except being pushed out of the store and made to feel like shit. My husband and I had to actually call the company DITA ourselves to arrange getting them fixed or a refund because SAL refused. There are so many terrible reviews about this person, this is insane. How is this person even employed? I am in shock. My husband even tried to call to speak to the owner after this altercation at which Sal hung up on him! What the hell is going on over there?! I have NEVER left a review and I have NEVER felt more offended by a person in my life. I will NEVER go back to this place again and I will NEVER recommend this shop to anyone ever, unless you have a penchant for verbal abuse, go see SAL. read more

Wow what an amazing 1st class experience! I recently moved to Malibu and I got my first eye exam in over 7 years on Tuesday from Dr. O'Connor. From the moment I walked into the office I was greeted by his very friendly staff, a cold bottle water, and two chocolates. The staff made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The eye exam went very smoothly and Dr. O'Connor took the time to explain to me exactly what was going on with my eyes and answer all of my questions. His bedside manner is great. After the exam I walked over to his other location across the street " Malibu Eye Center Optometry" where the gentleman was already expecting me and took his time showing me lots of different options for new glasses and even stayed 20 minutes after closing to ensure every detail was taken of. I'm very excited to pick my new DITA glasses up and start wearing them soon! This is the first time in my life I've ever needed glasses and I was feeling a bit anxious about the whole process and everyone made my experience very pleasant and memorable. I've traveled to 32 countries and have stayed in the best hotels and eaten at the finest restaurants in the world. I left my sunglasses at home on a trip up the coast, so I stopped in here to pick up a quick pair. I found the salesman somewhat pushy and anxious to make the sale. I should have taken this as a sign and walked out, but I didn't and ended up buying a pair of glasses for almost $300. I then looked them up on Amazon and found them for less than $100. Shame on me for not doing my homework, but prices that are 3x what you can find online is pretty outrageous. Buyer beware at this place!! read more

Dr. O'Connor's eye examine, diagnose, and treatment is and always has been excellent. His prescription glasses are always perfectly constructed. My appointments always exceed my expectations as well. Over the years I have had emergency office visits. Once when I was stone sculpting I got a shard in my eye which he expertly removed. I walked into the Oliver Peoples store, and the only person working there was on the phone and seemed to be working in the back. I waited for awhile, but nothing happened, so I left, and walked over to Malibu Eye Center. My original plan was just to get some new nosepads for my backup pair of glasses and maybe grab a pair of new sunglasses, but I ended up getting a new main pair of glasses as well as sunglasses, in addition to the nosepads (which they did for free). They take VSP! Most places that take VSP tend to suck, in my experience, but this place was great - very helpful with finding cool frames, etc. Prices seemed reasonable as well, especially with the 20% VSP discount. I bought a pair of "very avant garde" (according to the dude) glasses for about $200 (including the ridiculous high indexing and digitally crafted lenses etc), and then blew another 600 on a pair of high end snob Dior aviators. (which seemed pretty cheap, considering) Big fan. It's a bit of a hike from LA, but whatever. read more

I am so disappointed with Malibu Eye! I do not understand why they are still in business... I bought a pair of expensive glasses with prescription and they were fine. I recommended a friend to them and they totally burnt her in every way. She still tells me they owe her money and is just going to let it go. "Life is too short to bother with those kind of people". I bought a second pair of glasses with prescription and both lenses were damaged when they arrived. I brought the glasses back and they made an adjustment but never offered to replace the damaged lenses and brushed it off like "who really gives a hoot?" unbelievable... After insisting that I could not live with scratched lenses they said they would order another set of lenses and never did. I waited almost two months for them to call me and finally called them and they told me they ordered the lenses but when I called the lenses manufacturer they said Malibu Eye put in the order just yesterday. Are you kidding? This is unbelievable. My wife ordered glasses and has been waiting for two months for those to come in. These folks are very nice including the doctor - but when it comes to service... In all my days, I have never seen anything like it. I am moving on. read more
