Founded in 2003, Malibu Shirt company started with printing shirts for the Malibu Surf Club. Despite its name, it is an Hawaiian based company, emphasizing its shared surf culture with that of Southern California. It is meant to revive vintage or expired logos from surf clubs, airlines, and local businesses from both Hawaii and California. There are two stores in Oahu (this one at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort), one on the Big Island, and 3 in Maui (including at Whaler's Village which is close to our home resort, but the Front street Lahaina location is closed). My wife bought a Pan Am patch/velcro for $11 + 4.712% tax of $0.52. Racist older lady. White lady customer asked about a product, super helpful. Asian asks about a product, condescending response. White man goes into dressing room, no issue. Asian goes into dressing room, lashes out and says we need to let her know that I'm using the dressing room and how many items.. why not ask the white man that went in before? The white man never asked for permission or let her know how many items. I know because he came in later than us, was next to us the whole time, and never asked her for permission for the dressing room. I was next to him when he picked out a shirt and just went in to try on the shirt. Lady saw him go in but didnt even bat an eye. I bought 4 X-Large shirts and had them shipped to Canada. Between the expensive price to the shirts and having to pay duty, it was an expensive purchase. Upon receiving the shirts one was substantially larger than the others although they were all marked as XL. It is so large I can't wear it. Malibu shirts has agreed to take it back but I have to pay for shipping and duty again to get a new one. The mistake was theirs, just send me another shirt. read more

The lady was extremely rude confrontational and had zero customer service skills. I did not purchase any items even though I was interested due to her poor attitude and lack of customer service. As I've been celebrating my birth month with my visiting relatives from California, I found myself getting into a touristy mode and found myself wandering around shops in Waikīkī more. After walking into the Outrigger Waikīkī Beach Resort to get to Duke's Waikīkī for lunch, I noticed the Malibu Shirts store. I've bought Malibu Shirts t-shirts before to add to my "senior uniform," but, this time, I was looking for parting gifts for my relatives. Upon entry, I was greeted by a friendly female voice. Still, I didn't see anyone who could've said it and found it was the sole worker who was behind the counter that was protected by a Plexiglas barrier and was hidden by a male customer paying for his purchase. As this store's name implies, many of the brand logos represent Californian and Hawaiian beach designs. There are logos from local and international companies that are either defunct or still existing that people over a certain age remember, making them "vintage." I continued to browse the store until the female staffer came out from behind the counter asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. Meanwhile, I saw several logos such as Pan Am World Airways (started 1927 & went out of business in '91), Aloha Airlines (Honolulu-based airline 1946 - 2008), Hawaiian Airlines, Rainbow Drive-In, Waikīkī Surf Club, and more. My husband caught up with me in Malibu Shirts and took me off my memories to select t-shirts for his brothers. Both t-shirts were reminders to my brothers-in-law of their local roots and represented products they could identify with. The quality and hand of the material are excellent since Malibu Shirts uses 5.5 oz 100% ringspun cotton, and they're pre-shrunk. The screen printing is also well-made and can last through many machine washings. Short sleeve t-shirts are rather pricey at $29 apiece, but because of the quality and design selections, we didn't mind. This store was smaller than their other store at the Waikīkī Beachwalk (Lewers Street), but it's conveniently located in this hotel. I don't know if they validate parking in the hotel if you shop here. Still, we joined my relatives for lunch at Duke's Waikīkī afterward, where my relatives who were borrowing our car said they received 4-hour parking validation at the Ohana East Hotel's self-parking lot. read more

friendly service and very good quality. i've seen some reviews complaining about the price but 1) nobody twisted their arm to purchase; 2) the quality of the Pre-shrunk cotton is good weight and the t-shirts will last for years and soften as they age; and 3) much better quality than the garbage T-shirts you can get at ABC where it's 4 for $25... again, you get what you pay for. i liked this place so much, i went back a 2nd time with co-workers who traveled with me and we all purchased more items. and yes, as someone previously mentioned, Vintage refers to the designs and how the printing appears. and the Staff, 1 Manager and 2 trainees, were lovely and we enjoyed our interaction with them read more

I don't normally come on yelp all to leave a negative review but my experience here warrants it. On a busy Saturday evening, my family trekked here because my dad really likes Malibu Shirts. We came into town and had to park a mile away from this place. After a long walk through the crowds and craziness of Waikiki, we thought we got here just in time, 30 mins before closing. Arriving to a closed glass door, we knocked (as did serveral others wanting to get into the store) to see if was open (which according to posted hours, it should have been). There was a man standing at the cashiers counter just scrolling on his phone, not making eye contact with the small crowd that clearly wanted in the store. We tried for 5 mins knocking and even asked the nearby information desk if the place was still open. The info desk said it should still be open, yet the man working could not be bothered to listen to the knocks on the sliding glass door or make eye contact with us. This kind of behavior from the man working there on a busy Saturday night 30 mins before closing is just appalling and I sure hope the store manager sees this review and implements Some kind of disciplinary action for the closing employee on the night of Saturday September 7th. Won't be giving Malibu shirts our business again. read more

I love Malibu shirts. I have three (Elvis, Endless Summer and Rainbow Grill.) I recently purchased the Rainbow Grill shirt from the store in the Outrigger. Took it home, didn't fit, took it back to return it, since it was a 2X and that's the biggest size they have. Two problems. One, they told me they don't do returns for credit, only exchanges. Seriously? A clothing store? In 2023? Way to support your customers, guys. The employee also told me, "do you know this is a women's shirt/size?" How would I know that? There are no signs or indications of this anywhere in the store. Nor was this checked or mentioned when I, a 6' 3", 250 pound guy originally bought the shirt. She gave me a tour of the store and said I can pick a "mens" size shirt from anywhere in the store, except this one tiny area that are the (unmarked) women's size shirts. Of course this is where I grabbed my shirt from a few days earlier, so no wonder it didn't fit. But how would anyone know this? Good thing I'm a local and was able to bring the shirt back before taking it home to Boise and realizing it was two sizes too small. Admittedly, the very nice and helpful employee/manager did call the owner (which she should not have had to do) and got the OK to do a return, but once I found out I had unintentionally purchased a shirt from the tiny, unmarked "women's" section of the store, I was happy to do an exchange for a men's shirt, which fits great. Get your act together, Malibu. Give your customers a refund when YOU screw up. And put a sign in front of the "women's" shirts. read more

Walked in one night and it was a little crowded, but the sales person had exceptional customer service and knowledge of their products. The shirts are super soft and comfortable. Mary at the Moana Surf Rider Hotel (near Waikiki) was the most pleasant woman I have ever met. Went in for 1 hoodie that wouldn't taken 5 minutes or less, however; I stayed and talked with her for nearly 15 minutes. I've always been a fan of the store but shopping with her made me enjoy it 10x more. She deserves a raise or a hug or something good!!!! read more

A great selection of Hawaiian clothing and pennants for sale. Located on the lower lobby at the Outrigger Waikiki on the beach. Priced are decent and the quality of clothing is better than those sold in ABC Stores. It's small but has a great inventory. The staff are helpful and very patient. read more

Excellent source of vintage apparel. If you're looking for gifts to take home to friends and family, this place is a gem! Licensed designs that each have a special Hawaiian history tag unique to the design. Unique and vintage apparel. What i really appreciate is the history tags their merchandise come with. You get a detailed description of the item you're getting, and what the decal represents. So it's not just some random shirt that says 'Hawaii.' There's a specific meaning behind what you're wearing! This place is not the touristy stuff you typically find all over Hawaii. Great quality of products. Won't shred or fall apart after one wash. The museum within the store is also fantastic. All artifacts are authentic trophies and tidbits about the beloved Duke Kahanamoku. Staff is always available and knowledgeable, ready to answer any questions, or help you pick out the perfect gift...for either someone back home, or for yourself! Awesome vintage surf t-shirts. They will run you about $27, but it is worth it. There are a couple stores in Honolulu in the Waikiki area.
