My employer subsidizes the membership so I pay a pretty low fee. I think even the full price is a pretty good deal. Why do you need 10 of machine X? You can only use one at a time. My only complaint is that occasionally classes at the most popular time of the week get a little bit crowded. But the classes are otherwise a good enough value that they don't lose a star for it in my opinion.

Another odd quirk about this gym is that they make you pay an extra fee to use towels. I've been a member of many different gyms and this is the first time I've experienced such a thing. If you can deal with the cramped atmosphere and tone out the close company during the lunch hour you might be able to sneak in a quick midweek workout in this tiny space.

This created unnecessary stress and burnout, making it impossible to provide the high level of care and attention that children deserve. For the children, the atmosphere was less than ideal. The classroom materials and resources were outdated or inadequate, limiting opportunities for creative and meaningful learning experiences. Safety protocols also appeared to be poorly enforced, which was extremely concerning. Additionally, the leadership team was unapproachable and dismissive of staff concerns. This is one way for me to stay healthy, especially to balance my big appetite. :P This gym is opened to all students at Tufts Med/Dental/PHPD 7 days a week. The gym has around 7-8 treadmills, 5 ellipticals, two free weight stations, 6-8 bicycles, and other machines. There is also a small fitness room to do some stretches and sit ups. Even though the size of this gym is not too big, I never had any trouble dealing with wait time or anything. The hours are pretty flexible so you can definitely squeeze in gym time even though you have a busy schedule. There are 3 TVs hung on the wall and I always change it to the Food Network while I run. :) The locker and shower rooms are right outside and they do a good job on keeping it clean.

IF ONLY the Housing section and VULNERABLE TENANTS were treated as wonderfully as the gym and gym members that would be nice. Tenants are watched like criminals from behind an ALWAYS CLOSED CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY office door, but Huntington House is not a prison, jail, halfway house, shelter, recovery/treatment center, or the like. It is simply low-income/subsidized housing where tenants are treated very disrespectfully by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON'S agent CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY. The building is treated just as poorly as tenants. Hallways and common areas are rarely swept or cleaned. Trash bins are often placed inside on the residential hallway on at least one floor, instead of outside of the entrance door to the residential floors. Exterminations are rare and many tenants would probably describe their units as uninhabitable. Complaints, maintenance requests are either ignored or, well, ignored! The general negligence in oversight by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON of CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY "property managers" is nonexistent EVEN when YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON officials are apprised of problems and, in my situation, even after multiple legal actions. AND I COULD GO ON AND ON...AND ON!!!...AND ON!!!!! INSTEAD, I will refer you to my Substack account. Cleanliness: It's pretty terrible. - In every other civilian or military gym I've used, members regularly use disinfectant wipes on benches and machines after use. That's not the case here, so I'm mindful of wiping surfaces down before use. - Most nights, the bathroom trash cans are overflowing with used paper towels. A nice, older gentleman cleans the gym near closing hours, but it doesn't seem like the student staff at the front desk do so during the day. - This is the first gym I've used in which I regularly see used towels left on the locker room floor. I've even seen a towel left next to a toilet. This reflects not only the inadequate cleaning schedule, but also Harvard gym members' lack of care. Rules: - There are rules posted prohibiting Olympic lifting, lifting without shoes, etc., but they're infrequently enforced. - I regularly see gym members doing Olympic lifts (cleans, snatches) that put other members at risk in such a small space. Gym trainers have witnessed Olympic lifts and have said nothing. - I've been told to put my shoes back on while deadlifting, but I regularly see gym members lifting without shoes and sometimes squatting **without socks** (which doesn't even make sense). If you're going to enforce the rules, have systems in place to enforce them regularly / consistently. The gym is fine enough, as the membership fee comes out of my tuition, but Harvard University and its community should do a better job in taking care of its community spaces.
