We had an extensive list of photo combinations we wanted with the bridal party, our parents, wedding sponsors, and extended family and the Dean Michaels team managed to capture every single moment. On the day of, Ricky arrived much EARLIER than we paid for, because he wanted to capture as much of the getting ready process as possible. We're super grateful for this, and he got tons of great photos we would not otherwise have! From the moment he walked into our hotel suite, he was all action, camera out, and ready to take photos. For this day, and for all of our other shoots with Sweet Mango, he gave great directions on how to pose for photos, was so creative with how he framed his shots, and flexible and adapted to the sun/weather/background and whatever other obstacles may come his way. Even though we did not get a second shooter and he single handedly had to cover the entire venue and all 100 guests at our event, including an entire lion dance troupe, he rose to the occasion and did just that and much more. I try not to hold it against them because I know they can have difficult customers and kids can really be a handful especially when they won't cooperate. I guess I wish they wouldn't tightly book so much and leave some room for error. My photographer was Lorri and she is very energetic and friendly. She makes silly sounds, voices and faces to get the kids laughing and more interested. My toddler was being a bit challenging to wrangle in, so the girl who runs the desk, Kim, came in and helped out. I was so impressed with her- she is pregnant and handling so much at once and never once complained or seemed to be aggravated. She helped with our shoot, rang people up for their purchases and helped people with the selection process. I am not sure how she was doing it all and composing herself so perfectly! They have a great team here and we always leave with pictures that we love. There is no doubt that all of the staff in the portrait studio are working hard! Communication and the booking process was super easy and organized on her website. She always responded in a timely manner. She addressed all my questions and concerns. The design team that she works with is amazing and brought my vision for the balloon backdrop to life. She works with her partner/husband Ed who was also super nice and helpful; he came down to help us with our belongings when we got to the studio. The studio was so clean and airy looking; it was the perfect spot for photos with natural lighting. Melissa really showed her expertise and comfort level in taking wonder shots of our son and of us. She was able to direct us on how and where to pose and also adjust things like fixing my hair or adjusting my legs/heels so that they would not look awkward (not all photographers will do this, this comes with experience). We never felt rushed and Melissa was patient with our son. We had some suggestions after we got the edited pictures back and Melissa never made us feel bad about doing the editing over again until we were satisfied. This wonderful experience made us super happy with choosing her as our son's First Birthday Photographer and hopefully other special occasions in the future. Her husband works with her an suffers from extreme OCD so half of your photoshoot session will be cut in half due him cleaning. As far as the turnaround to getting your proofs is also awful and takes such a long time to receive them. This should not be the case if your paying over $400 dollars for less than 25 mins a session. My advice coming from a business background is that you will slowly lose more customers that way because it's not an enjoyable experience when you feel a pressure from the photographer to hurry up when it's suppose to be the opposite a pleasant experience. This is my second time booking with Melissa and I won't book again because of the awful experience. Don't waste your money there is other photographers out there with the same set up, more time and the ability to choose more pictures without feeling robbed.
