We just had a large job done on our property and boy was the crew amazing! They were so efficient, on time, communicative and just make this type of work look so easy. Excellent experience with Maltby & Company in removing 2 trees from my property, from beginning to end. The removal required a crane. The arborist involved was knowledgeable, courteous, and very efficient. My neighbor decided to also have some trees removed at the same time and Maltby & Co. was very accommodating in coordinating the work to be done on the same day with our respective schedules. On the day of the removal the crew, with all smiles, showed up early ready to work. They very efficiently and effectively got down to work, and accommodated my request made at the time of booking to leave as much of the wood as possible cut to log length for me. They left the place spotless when done. One of my neighbors was so impressed at what she saw them do she reached out to a worker for a business card. My neighbor hired Maltby to trim trees on their side of the fence. My Husband and I spoke to the neighbors and greed upon exactly what would be trimmed. My husband and I made notes for when they came to ask permission to cut the trees that grow on our property. This morning we wake up to chain saws. Maltby & Co trespassed onto my property and cut off large portion of a tree without our permission. We spoke to Brian Maltby, MCA, he confirmed they were "technically" supposed to ask for permission before trespassing into my property and before cutting into my tree, but I guess it was just too much of a hassle for him to bother. I asked Brian how he planned on rectifying this situation. He asked if there was anything on our side his company could take care of. My husband pointed out an overhanging branch, but Brian said that would take too much time and we aren't the customer. Sure, whatever. My husband and I are still figuring out what we can do about this. But my advice to you Matlby and CO is: Maybe next time, get permission before trespassing and destroying private property. read more

Needed to remove a large,dead hemlock from our front lawn in Newton. The company was very responsive and communicative. And they were truly professional throughout. A very large and old tree split and fell onto my neighbor's house. The tree limb needed to be urgently removed from their house and the remainder of the tree, which had significant rotting, needed to be removed. Maltby tree contracted for the urgent limb removal as well as the removal of the entire tree. On October 12, 2016 Maltby tree removed the limb from the roof, but left 1/2 the tree and a very, very large limb on my lawn. Craig from Maltby said they would return 1 week later to complete the job. On the morning Maltby was to return, Craig told me that the power company, Eversource, had ordered them to halt the job until they could do an inspection. I asked for the contact person at Eversource and Craig told me he didn't know who to speak with although he had spoken with them. I contacted Craig several times over the next few days and finally, on October 21, Craig provided me with the contact at Eversource. I reached the Eversource contact immediately, who told me that they had already inspected the tree and had spoken with Craig and gave the okay for Maltby to finish the job. I also spoke with the city arborist who informed me the remaining tree was extremely dangerous and should be removed immediately as it was not stable. The city arborist told me he had spoken to Craig at Maltby about the tree hazard. I spoke with Craig that day, October 21, and he informed me that the tree was not a hazard and Maltby would not return to complete the removal until December 12, 2016. I relayed what the city arborist said about immediate removal and Craig told me that if I wanted it removed sooner, I could contract with another company for emergency removal as he did not consider it an emergency. I asked about removing the large limb that was left on my lawn (and killing my vegetation), and he said he would see about it. Multiple phone calls and texts from myself and neighbors about the urgency of the tree produced no results. On November 7, 2016, the city arborist and an arborist from Eversource came to inspect the tree again. Both the city and Eversource arborist expressed that the tree was extremely dangerous and needed to be removed immediately. I explained that I had been trying for about a month to get Maltby to complete the job and had expressed the danger and urgency of the situation to Craig with no result. Eventually, Eversource decided to remove the tree and completed the job on November 18, 2016. Maltby did not complete the contracted job in a timely manner and left an unstable hazardous tree standing in spite of pleas from myself, my neighbors, the city arborist, and Eversource to remove the tree immediately for the safety of myself and my neighbors. read more

Want to like this company because they come across so decent and have a great reputation, but clearly, something has gone amiss. A crew of two, one climbing and one of ground worked a better part of eight hours completing 75% of the work agreed to and signed for, but at 3:30 p.m. with hours of daylight left, said they would return to complete the rest of the work another day. Within weeks the weather turned, winter set and we heard nothing until after the first of the year with the salesman called saying they had misplaced our billing. Flabbergasted, we questioned when they intending to complete the job and were told they had to come out to look at what wasn't finished. The salesman who had drafted the original contract and agreement said they couldn't afford to bring their equipment back out at the contract price which he said was really for a days worth of work. Not only that, he commented that several of the trees they worked on weren't looking good even though we spent more on saving them then taking them down, per their recommendations and only a few months had passed since they pruned. Sadly. they don't stand behind their work or their word, even when it's in writing. read more

I wish I could review the actual work Maltby did, but unfortunately, after nearly 6 months of asking for them to prune my trees, I went with another company. I called Maltby in mid August, 2011 and was given an estimate in a timely manner. After checking out another company I decided Maltby's price was more reasonable and asked for them to prune my trees. There were several storms in the fall so I was told Maltby was busy with those houses and I was told that they would email me when they were ready. I never heard anything. By February, I called the office and asked for someone to prune the trees again. The receptionist assured me that someone would call the following day. No one ever did. So, I went with another pruner Barrett Tree Service who came, did an estimate and prune the trees within several weeks -- and for a better price. Much better than the 6 months of trying to chase anyone at Malby down. I've NEVER posted a bad review of anything on line -- but this company gets my first 1 star review. read more
