My first time at this restaurant. After seeing positive reviews on Yelp, figured I'd give it a try. I will add that a friend had cautioned me that the restaurant service was extremely slow when they had tried shortly after the restaurants opening. I figured it may have just been startup issues. After my experience, slow service appears to be characteristic. I gave this restaurant a single star mainly due to the extremely slow service. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. However, the slow service made the entire experience horrible. The same people were cooking and trying to wait tables. Not good. I will add that they do a lot of takeout business, perhaps that is what they should stick to. I will not return to this establishment, and I would caution anyone who is dining inside to reconsider, unless you have a lot of time to waste. read more

Authentic and so good! An absolutely chance find. Passing through and looking for a mailbox. Directions were spot on. And a mailbox is right in front of this restaurant. Hmmm! What a lucky find. Tried Mama Chave and ordered a mix of tacos--Chicken, Steak & Chorizo, and Al Pastor. They were good and definitely worth the money. The handmade corn tortillas were a great touch and really added to the overall flavor. I wouldn't say they're the best tacos I've ever had--I've had some incredible ones in California and Texas--but for this area, they're definitely a standout. The Al Pastor had a nice bit of sweetness, and the Chorizo had great flavor. If you're local and looking for solid tacos at a good price, Mama Chave is absolutely worth checking out. read more

Amazing and large portions!! Originally I recommended that my husband and I picked something off of the menu and share because we were hungry but we weren't famished. He insisted on getting his own and let's just say we had food for the next day and a half. This place was amazing. The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. This is the real deal!!!! Authentic, simple and fresh ingredients all made from scratch. Seriously just all delicious!!! We ordered the mixed fajitas, my husband and I, split the plate and it was more than enough food for both of us, it came with freshly made delicious corn tortillas! We also ordered a chicken tamale and a pork and bean popusa, both very delicious. We stopped here to eat right before we took our scenic drive up the Skyline Drive. I can't say enough good things about this new restaurant. My family and I have been several times and they never disappoint. You get large portions at a really reasonable price. The food is excellent. I try something new every time and so far it's all been great. Their cheese and spinach pepusas are huge and so yummy. They are a must every time we go. Stopped at Mama Chave for a late lunch and boy was it good. I ordered loroco pupusas and could only eat one! The rest were consumed late night and for lunch the next day. The cheese inside is melty and worthy of a "cheese stretch". The value is unbelievable. Go and try it! read more

I went for lunch and ordered 3 tacos de lengua--no flavor at all, and the salsa verde was bland too. The place has about 20-30 seats, but you seat yourself, tables sat dirty, and staff stayed behind the counter without checking in, even though only one other couple was dining, so it wasn't busy. I don't understand the high reviews because the food wasn't good and the service wasn't either. I still tipped a little over 22%. Not a memorable experience. read more

I haven't been more ecstatic about a new restaurant in Front Royal in a very long time. This has become a weekly visit for us. The food is incredible and the portions are huge for the price point. Staff is super friendly and inviting. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. If you live here or even if passing through this is becoming a must stop and eat place. read more

I order from this place at least once a week. Their tacos are excellent, and I'm a big fan of their Al pastor, lengua, and quesabirria varieties. The pupusas are great and I recommend the yuca too! Do yourself a favor and give this restaurant a shot. read more

Wonderful new spot in Front Royal. I've only had their jalapeno and cheese, and pork and cheese pupusas, and steak torta so far. Two visits in under a week. The price to proportion ratio is generous and the quality is excellent. read more

The service and ambiance was fine. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes run through a blender. Ordered quesobirria and the handmade corn tortillas were the only good thing about the meal. The birria meat had zero flavor-zero! Raw onions and cilantro had zero flavor!? The beef broth for dipping-same thing! Sister had the chicken burrito-very little chicken. First, the service ( and they were not very busy) was slow! The server never came back with drink refills, even though we asked for more! Second, the food was only mediocre.
