Highly recommend!! This place deserves more than 5 stars simply because of the level of real hospitality I personally witnessed today. Food was amazing! The ambiance was perfect! And most importantly the service blew me away....extremely impressive! First, Howard (our waiter) Gary (the chef) ALL hats off to y'all....My table had a party of 20 against 1 chef and 2 waiters and guess what....they did amazing!!!! Everyone's order came out perfect, no complaints and food was simply delicious. I literally wanted to call the Chef (Gary) out to thank him personally for the food we received. Howard (the waiter) was very attentive, kept a smile on his face and I simply appreciated him sharing the history behind this restaurant. I was traveling from out of state to visit family. My two sisters and I kind of stumbled onto this gem. We shared the crab artichoke dip for an appetizer. It was so yummy and full of delicious crab! Both of my sisters order the blackened salmon and I had the crab cake. The salmon cook have been cooked a smidge less, but all of it was wonderful. The service was really special. Our server was going to college and was both interesting and interested, a nice combination. The manager made his way through the dining area checking on tables with a fun and genuine style. Top notch soul food in the heart of Front Royal. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were seated promptly. Our server was very cordial. Our meal was the "Big Earl" catfish/shrimp/crab cake platter and the BBQ Sampler. Everything was fresh, delicious, and I'd put it up against any restaurant in Charleston or Atlanta any day of the week. Homemade soul food prepared fresh! Great space with a bar that showed the Super Bowl. Howard (manager) runs the place with his cousin (chef) and deliver exceptional customer service! This was the first time dining out since March (due to pandemic). My friend and I sat outside and it was the prime people (and dog) watching spot. The Mayor of Front Royal even came up to us to say hello. What a treat!! The food was fresh and just amazing. I had the fried fish po' boy and my friend had the jambalaya. You don't walk daily into a restaurant to be received by a chef/owner who takes personal care of your food needs. We were in a vacation, hungry and hunting for lunch places at around 3.30 PM and when we spotted this place, we almost thought this was closed for the day as the door wouldn't open. While we tried to walk away, a tall and well built gentleman called us and that they were actually open. Since it was late lunch time, it was just me and my wife getting all their attention. We told him upfront that we were vegetarians and our allergies. He made sure he catered to our needs and got us a veg bean burger and a salad. Since we asked for a lot of spice, we were given a cup of their homemade sauce to check the spice level and it was damn spicy! After we we were served, he informed that he would be willing to change it if it was bad in any way. DELICIOUS MEAL here, was excited to find this place on Yelp, and it didn't disappoint. Flavorful Jambalaya, perfectly done salmon with pesto and YUMMY sweet coconut rice . Holy cow! I don't give 5 star's lightly but sometimes amazing food will blast past any need for high end digs. This restaurant is quaint and comfortable, not too much in the way of decor,BUT... they have fantastic Jamaican Jerk! And the Jambalaya was INSANE! I will be back to try the BBQ, it was hard to choose one over the other, they both smelled so dang good rolling out of the kitchen. Once you get your fork in, you don't care about much else. We came here because the Blue Winged Frog was closed as it was already past 2 in the afternoon and we were so hungry. We came in not expecting much but ended up being impressed with this small eatery. A menu consisting of a little Caribbean flavor and a bit of Southern food, Soul Mountain should have something that catches your attention. I tried their shrimp curry and it was very comforting and satisfying. It tasted homey, is the only way I can describe it and something that I would make on a Sunday afternoon. My boyfriend got the brisket wrap and while I was hesitant on the choice, I took a few bites and it was really good as well. Who would have thought blue cheese and brisket would go together? Also, I was equally impressed with the baked beans and collard greens. I love it when the sides taste just as good the main entree. The wings were okay but the flavor of them were great. The highlight of our meal was chatting with an employee named, Lynn. She was so incredibly friendly and she thoroughly made our afternoon much better. Be sure to ask them to spice it up! Howard treats his waitresses terrible i over heard him have a conversation with one of the waitresses telling her that she should just wipe the dirty dishes off with a napkin. i've heard from one of the waitresses that he calls them at 3:00 in the morning which is VERY unacceptable! when receiving my food there was snot running down his nose and when i had ordered something that came with bread there was mold on it. there was dirty stains in my cup when i got my drink i DEFINITELY do not recommend eating here the place is trashy just like the management. read more

The food was overpriced and just bad. The ribs where just boiled and had never seen a smoker a grill. The barbecue sauce was just liquid something. We ordered some cornbread but the waitress never said anything till we reminded her and she brings out some dinner rolls and said the ran out of cornbread. The salad my wife got has some kind of microwave chicken thing that was tasteless. The only thing that was ok was the french fries and the mozzarella sticks. On top of that the don't tell you they only take cash until your ready to pay the bill. The waitress never asked if our food was ok or if we needed anything. The place was clean and pretty empty. One Star because we never got to try the food. As we entered we were told by a woman behind the bar to sit anywhere. We sat down at a table near the front beside a large group. We noticed 2 other large groups and a table of 4 or so. The group next to us had salads but no one else had any food. The servers were busy making drinks at the bar and then taking orders at the tables ahead of us. No biggy. After 10-15 mins we started to think this may not be our day because the ?Owner came out of the kitchen and never glanced our way and started to help the servers deliver drinks. He then took menus to a couple who had come in about 15 mins after us. My Husband stood up to ask for menus and the ? Owner said oh do you need menus? At this point we'd been sitting there for at least 20 mins with no one acknowledging our presence, no menus, no drink orders. We looked at the menu and made our decisions because we weren't in a huge hurry and we could see the 2 servers were very busy. The ?Owner came out of the kitchen and approached the table that had come in well after us and began to take their order. I am thinking I am on an episode of Restaurant Impossible because how can you be so disengaged with your clientele that you don't realize it is a huge mistake to make customers wait while you take orders out of sequence? We waited to see if he was just going to grab our order as well and he never made eye contact with us and returned to the kitchen. We promptly left. My husband wanted to talk to him and explain the issue but I said no way because if you own a restaurant or even visit a restaurant and you don't know that is a big NO NO then that's on you. I was very disappointed because this place gets decent reviews and we love to support local businesses. The restaurant is beautiful inside and clean. It occurred to me, as we drove to Spelunker's for fast food but the service is spot on, that only 1 table had any food and we never saw any food coming out of the kitchen so we probably just headed off more frustration by leaving when we did. After looking through the reviews there are a lot going back for years that have the same service complaint. They won't get another chance. read more

The tomato bisque, already rich and tasty, was memorably delicious with fresh crab meat added. The diner is gone, but now Soul Mountain is there. We were looking for breakfast and although they don't serve that, we decided to stay for lunch and give it a try. WOW!!!! Awesome service and food. Our server was Cassie and she was very friendly and nice. I ordered the chicken/bacon club with potato salad. The sandwich was super good, but the potato salad ranks as one of the best I have ever had. Not sure when we will be back in the area again, but we will definitely stop by here.
