Place is delicious every time I go frankly. Although, I have never been that huge of a fan of country food, especially if it isn't from in town, but this place is great especially if you stick with the foods you know are good like the Mac and cheese, and lentils. Fried chicken here is real good as well, and so is the deserts. My only complaint about this place would be the crowd is always too big. If there was a way to decrease the amount of people that seem to be consistently packed into this place that would be ideal. Maybe open a new location. read more

I took a group of 50 to eat lunch today. I tried calling 3 times that morning to give them a heads up but, they never answered the phone. When we pulled up in our motor coach a gentleman came out to meet us. He seemed less than excited for us to be there. After a few minutes of standing in line to pay, he had us go with him to an overflow dining room. After we were seated there he seemed to relax and was a little more welcoming. But the lady who came in to help him was never welcoming. She didn't appear to be having a good day. I'm not sure if she is always like that. I tried to reassure her that we were not in a hurry but she never lightened up. After everyone had been taken to the register a few at a time to pay, she asked two or three more times if everyone had paid. I finally asked if she knew that the gentleman who helped us at first had told me that the driver and the tour leader received a complimentary meal. She didn't seem very happy about that. Seems she should have been more hospitable to those who brought in 50 people to eat at your restaurant. The food was good. My favorite was the mashed potatoes and gravy with the fried gizzards and the ribs. The banana pudding was delicious. read more

Great sides, excellent ribs, good price. I came from out of town on a recommendation from my mom who is local. I would definitely return. I dined inside (two trips to the buffet) and took home a to-go container for the same dine-in price. Be sure to get dessert with your to-go order. It is a buffet with average to low quality food.. Greens were cooked till about to evaporate. All fried, nothing grilled. BBQ chicken cooked to rock. Worst of all, at 7:50pm, they remove the food trays while plenty of people still in the restaurant. You go for food and come back empty handed. The decor is old such that I don't think anybody cleaned them since they opened in 1971. It is very busy, I think it is because they charge $15 per person. I am sure they lose more customers than they realize because there are still customers willing to pay less for a buffet. read more

Excellent food in a very timely manner. I went on a Saturday for lunch. Parking made us think we couldn't get in there were so many cars. The line for the buffet was very long but went extremely fast . We had our food and we're eating much quicker than most places. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious. Great value and great selection make this place a home run. I generally don't do buffets. I worry about food poisoning and it's almost impossible not to gorge yourself (well, myself anyway). Salad offerings are way better than expected (yes, I managed to get a healthy in to cancel out ... you know, everything else), BBQ was pretty good, corn was good, cornbread was perfect, bread pudding for dessert was awesome... I can't even remember what all I ate. Service was great and smiley and felt like good southern hospitality should. The original Mama Hamil's is a small log-cabin-type building closer to the main road. The new building is HUGE and set far back from the road, with a large parking lot. Be prepared to walk, and have your GPS and Yelp map handy to find the place. It's definitely set back from the main road and not visible at first. It's kind of at the top of a small hill. If you want good southern food at a more than fair price, check this place out. Solid. And great value - let me stress that again. Unbeatable value. read more

And then you pay $11 for a buffet and this includes your drink It's also like that you go get your plate and you go find a chair, you may sit at the table with 20 other people, I love that. Discovered Mama Hamil's in a trip to Jackson in 2015, and made a point to come back on our way to NOLA! As northerners, we were delighted to finally find a buffet with authentic soul food at very reasonable prices! Mama Hamil's has an assortment of southern favorites, including ribs, greens, and black eye peas. We were most excited about the fresh corn cakes with delicious slabs of butter, and the crusty peach cobbler- Complete with soft-serve ice cream from the machine included in the buffet. My only concern in visiting now is that I've since adopted a pescatarian/ vegetarian diet, so options are a bit limited if you have dietary restrictions. The huge, community-style dining room also features an upstairs loft area that can accommodate large parties, and the staff is so welcoming and friendly, which really tops off the southern charm and hospitality. Mama Hamil's is a good southern food buffet. It tasted and looked like the food is being prepared fresh in the kitchen as it is needed. My wife and I have been here a few times after it was recommended by a co-work in my office. The fried chicken was great with a nice crispy skin and juicy meat, the sides are truly amazing and may steal the show. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone missing a good down home meal. The service staff is very friendly and attentive keeping drinks full and old plates cleared. The only slight problem I have found is the seating set up it is all open and self seating. This leads to the first floor fills up quickly after opening leaving the only seating upstairs. For young people this completely ok, but if you have someone with who is disabled or elderly that's a big problem. I have seen people having to wait on of even help other older or larger customers up the stairs. For me I will keep going and enjoying the great food. read more

The waitresses are all very kind and are usually running to try to to keep up with everything. With covid I'm sure they need extra waitresses. This is a country Buffet that all the locals love, and after my visit, I can see why! $11 for the buffet and a drink, that includes tax. The buffet includes at least 10 different sides, 6 entree options, breads and desserts. I got a little bit of several things so I could try everything and it was all great! The seating is a little different. There are individual tables, but the only seating that was open when we got there were two long picnic tables down the middle of the restaurant, so we snagged our spots and started eating. The waitress came by immediately and asked what we wanted to drink (the drinks are not self service) and brought them over to us super quick! I would definitely recommend this spot for lunch! Check the hours if you're going to stop in, I think they are only open for lunch most of the week and lunch and dinner on the weekends. read more
