The menu selection is quite broad, although the set of appetizers didn't have a lot of appeal for our group. There were several things in the main section that I wanted to try. Cost is pricey as one might expect for a steakhouse. Service was mixed. It sometimes took a while to find a person to help and everything didn't come as fast as we'd like, but the actual order was delivered well, and everyone's food was hot and correct. At all times the service was polite and friendly. Food quality was good. Meats were great. Sides were ok. I had the smoked pork belly bites (great, but too little!), and the lamb (very good). My wife had the lobster appetizer (great but a bit big for a starter), and a steak (good). They brought a variety of potato sides (though surprisingly only one was on the menu) which were fine, though the fries were disappointing. Overall, this was a good place I would return to, but not amazing. I wish the menu had been a bit more unusual and lived up to the decor.

Most importantly: the burger. It's perfectly cooked and juicy. You can tell the patties are handmade, and it makes a total difference. The burger includes lettuce, tomato, and caramelized onion. I had a burger with bacon my first time, and really loved it. But honestly, I loved even MORE just the plain burger. Everything tastes amazing together and the slightly toasted but still soft bun was to die for (I'm a huge bread fan, ok). The fries have an exciting concept. I love the fact that you can choose toppings for your fries for free, to heighten the experience. I've tried both the shoestring and the regular fries, and both were perfectly done. They aren't cheap with the toppings, so you don't have to ration them out. The dipping sauces are super tasty as well. I haven't tried them all, but I really love the spicy smoked tomato mayo. My friend actually loved the fries so much she went back 7 hours later before she went back home after visiting me. I'll definitely be a regular at this place!

Here's why: First, the minor irritants: I ordered a Belvedere Martini. They don't have Belvedere vodka (the first place I've been to in Stockholm that didn't). In fact, they apparently only had Grey Goose. Seriously? Then the waiter: look, I know its "a thing" for men here to have beards. Fine. But three days of scruff, where you look like you've been sleeping rough? Then the stained shirt, and alcohol on his breath. I mean, come on... Smarten up. Its not exactly 7-Eleven. Then, the major irritants: you get exactly one choice of side if you order a steak under SEK 500. Really? That's outrageous. Then, if you want a special aged cut (SEK 600 and above), it takes...wait for it...an hour. Yup, an hour. To cook a freaking steak. We ordered two flank steaks, and got... Three slices of beef each. And the worst? We ordered them medium and medium-rare. We got medium and medium-well. That is absolutely inexcusable. If Snygging wasn't starving, I would have definitely sent them back. So here are the positives: the meat, despite being the wrong temperature, was delicious. The "cone snacks" were delicious (we had the lojrom, lobster, & foie gras). The fries were delicious. And here is the negative: its ridiculously expensive. SEK 2000 for 5 little snacks, three slices of meat each, a little cone of fries, a modest wine (SEK 700 though), and a martini? And, as I left, I understood how they can support that: the room was thick with business guys, and I am positive they were all there on an expense account. Good grief, even Peter Luger's isn't that expensive... If you want great steak and lots of choices of cuts in Stockholm, go to AG.

Both of us couldn't have been more satisifed with the food, and the service was every bit as good; attentive without being obtrusive. The ambiance was lovely, the Chianti our server recommended paired perfectly with our steaks, and the dessert he recommended was a delicious end to a perfect meal :-) Despite the fact that the prices here are more than a bit high, even for Stockholm, the quality of the food and the service were 2nd to none - highly recommended!!

And all the delicious sandwiches I used to spend all my money on are still on the menu, still named after worldwide deities, and the two pots of delicious chai (one soy, one regular) are still simmering on the stove. The only thing that has indeed changed, is that the two inner rooms are no longer smoke chambers. My thirties self feel that this is only for the good, though my teenage self would probably have disagreed :) My usual favorite on the menu was Freja - a delicious hot sandwich with chevré, tomato and parsley salsa, and It's still there. Though on this visit I'd already had lunch, so I went for another favorite: Isis - hard bread sandwich with slices of feta, tomato and parsley/garlic salsa. It was just as divine as I remember it. And so was the chai I had with it. I remember the cakes as being equally heavenly, but had to resist them this time. I love places that are able to withstand time and the changing trends, all the while staying genuine and true to their core. It is the proof of true jewel. And I do love Blå Lotus, and Stockholm seems to love it too - because it is just as packed as 15 years ago.

Nordic choice have already had a restaurant from Marcus Samuelsson at their flagship in Stockholm and for those of you who have visited American Table you may as I have serious doubts as to whether it was a wise choice to partner up with Marcus Samuelsson. This specific restaurant is in Hotel Amaranten and has taken over the space previously held by O'learys so I knew that it could for sure not be worse than that. Upon entering we were promptly greeted by staff and asked if we wanted something to drink. I opted for a sparkling wine but unfortunately it was already sold out. Offered the replacement, and was told that if I did not like it there was no problem to change to something else. They also whipped up some good lemonade and the people having cocktails appeared pleased. The beer selection was not great but there are some decent options but most people should be able to find something to their liking. I would still have hoped for something more exciting options at least among the bottled beers. When looking at the food menu I found the starters, snacks, sides and desserts to feature a lot of interesting items while the mains were less impressing sounding. We were a large group (9 of us) and the waitress recommended that we should not get to many different dishes to make it easier for the kitchen. Of course we did not listen as we wanted to try numerous different things. I sampled the waffles with fried chicken and that was perhaps not the healthiest option but it was really flavorful and tasted great. It was surprisingly tender and juicy and the chicken liver mousse went well with it. The fried chicken doughnuts were also a nice little snack. The starters were however were filling and when I also got the side dish that I ordered for the main with the starters I really started being full. The side of Mac n Cheese with duck leg was pretty decent but I have had so much better Mac N Cheeses. For main I tried the Jerk Chicken Caesar Salad. The salad was fairly boring while the chicken was tender, juicy and had a nice flavour. It however not come together as a dish since the egg, salad and chicken did not really fit together. The char was apparently good and the falafel received mixed reviews around the table. In general the small dishes were much better than the mains so would if I ever go again opt for a starter and some snacks and then save room for dessert as they also sounded good. We were however stuffed after the starter and mains so no chance to fit dessert. Service was in general very nice and friendly but things took to long. Can understand wait for food (as we ordered different things) but there was also a long wait for the check and paying. If they sharpen the service, improve the mains and get a more exciting selection of beverages it would deserve a better rating. Still a good hotel restaurant and while I would perhaps not go here again I may seek out a Choice hotel in a smaller city to visit Kitchen & Table.

The place is a little bit cramped, with the entrance and bar so close to one another that it becomes a bit crowded - but once you sit down by your table it's all peaches and cream. Whether or not chef Marcus Samuelsson succeeded in his ambition is to bring a little piece of NYC to Stockholm, I like the result.
