Stopped into Mama Tried on Friday night. Tried two cocktails off their menu, Raspberry Beret and Buster Brown. My girlfriend made me sleep on the couch the last two nights. Quality I enjoyed the drinks at Mama tried. My girlfriend did also, which annoyed me. The Buster Brown was definitely the better of the two. I read the description off the menu and I will now repeat the words I've read. It combined bourbon, lemon, honey, egg white, orange bitters, and smoked almond. I drink old fashions so I drank that to be in my comfort zone. My girlfriend started yakking it up with some guys at the bar which made me feel insecure. HOWEVER The Raspberry Beret was just a great combination of all the words I've read from the menu. It was supposed to come with choice of liquor, fresh lemon, raspberries, rose, prosecco, and pink peppercorn. HOWEVER girlfriend drank this drink way too fast and I became uncomfortable with this. I felt like it was our first tinder date all over again :/ Size of Drinks The drinks came in good sized glasses, I'm used to "Big Gulps" from 7/11. The bartender was measuring out cocktail ingredients I guess for consistency? The GALL! Value Cocktails were $12, which seemed high for what in the end I would classify as a comfortable, neighborhood bar. You are probably better off sticking to the cheap beer on the menu. My girlfriend always rolls her eyes when I ask "whats the cheapest thing on the menu" LOL. Ambiance Mama Tried is located in Downtown Miami ( and you're welcome now you don't have to Google it ;))) Mama Tried stands out with its glowing neon light on the wall. Its an awesome, reminds me of Vegas when my girlfriend at the time disappeared for a night without telling me anything, but I digress. HOWEVER, we were able to find it by following the music. The volume on the nearby street is nothing compared to what you get when you walk inside, because the doors were closed. The security greeted us by the entrance. I don't know how to feel about that. The DJ was set up next to the door which I didn't like. You ask why I don't like this combination of door and DJ booth? because my girlfriend loved it. He mixed what kids call "pop"(popular) Tunes from the 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s, 90s, and 00s. Which is great later in the evening with a more energetic crowd, it was absolutely obnoxious because I got yelled at from my boss last week for being a couple mins late and have to be in bed PROMPTLY at 8pm! If you're hard of seeing The place is dark If you have sight The space is a decent size with a bar in the center and high ceilings. Towards the front there is a pool table and the left wall has a raised couch and some high-top tables. The decor around the bar is cool with starlight hanging above it and this circular lights that reminded me a bit of disco balls. There was also a disco ball. They also had a few televisions showing football. Shannon watched football for most of the evening, but she never does at home. Crowd There was a good amount of people at the bar. Most guests were either huddled around the actual bar or near me or the pool table. It was a younger crowd and being that it was still early in the evening (6pm) seemed pretty tame. The DJs insisted on playing music which seem absolutely reasonable. Shannon started dancing by herself to a song I've never heard. Service Great. There was a decent crowd, but I wanted to be served first which was a bit of an issue. The bartenders were trying their best to serve everyone accordingly but like I said earlier, 8PM bed time folks. I even started whistling and waving my hands like I'm drowning at a kitty pool (which I almost did last week, I will be writing a strongly worded Yelp review to "Crazy Burts Watering Hole") The Bartender came over to take our orders. He went one drink at a time, Which makes sense because everyone around was yelling drinks at him. My girlfriend had some guy buy her shots, but I wanted to take a picture of my drink and see how many likes I can get on it. WHO. DOESN'T. The bartender did not ask me the correct questions about our drinks. HOWEVER he knew Shannon's order, I suspect she might have there before. Is there a Yelp for humans? Maybe we can drop the Y and replace it with H for Human. Yes, Help, I need Help. Parking Parking lots near by or if you have a smart phone download an application called "Uber" or "Lyft" (sp) My Final Thoughts Mama Tried just was very good. This review is overdue,visited this place after a Heat game on a Saturday night. Upon walking in, the doorman was very friendly and greeted us. The decors were really chic. Approximately 15 people to the max scattered throughout the sitting booth and the bar having drinks chatting. By 11 PM,place magically filled up with bar goers coming in groups,well dressed. *Music: The DJ is really amazing playing tunes varied from classics 70-80's,Rock to 90's hits and current hiphop well as Latin. Impressive with his transitions,keeping the crowd grooving all night! *Bartenders: Hospitality All super friendly,serving these flavorful cocktails,and regular drinks. This place has so much potential and is in a great location but sadly I will not be returning until there is a new doorman. I'm sure management would be excited to learn that the doorman (overweight guy) does a great job of managing the door and keeping the classic line out the door to make it look exclusive. You can easily get in if you pay the $10/20 dollars he customarily asks for or if you are a woman you can offer him sexual favors for your crews entry as I heard him propose to a young lady trying to enter. I have been a fan of this bar since it opened. However I won't be returning to this venue. Friday night I waited over 20 minutes for a drink. The bartender with a black hat backwards was only serving the pretty girls. When I mention something he gave me attitude and asked if I had a problem. People go to bars to forget their problems not to be harassed by employees. It's unfortunate that this great bar is going downhill because of its employees. Avoid. This place is very cute in the inside , but very dark so it feels like you're stepping into another world. It has a pool table, as well. The happy hour menu is pretty extent , but was very slow when we went. Even though it was slow our bartender Britney was so rude. Tried to make conversation with her & she completely would dodge or just act uninterested. Service makes everything about a place to me. I was just visiting my family and friends in Miami. I've been living out of state for 3 years & it was refreshing going to some new places that I had never been to. Mama Tried is awesome! The music, the drinks and the atmosphere were on point! My friends and I had a great time! :) I also love that there's a pool table, because I love to play pool & it's a fun way to interact with people you don't know. I definitely recommend Mama Tried! Racist people. They say it's a bar for everyone and for the neighborhood but they are racist and attend to racist people as well. I've never been so mistreated. I have lived here for years and I never seen a more racist Bar. Do not go here if you are anything but white. They will get other patrons to mistreat on you or plain out call the police. Terrible and discriminatory establishment! Not allowing a BLACK QUEER WOMAN to simply use the restroom is wild! Telling her "you don't belong here" especially in 2026 is mind blowing! Security then threatening her is just simply unacceptable! As if security wasn't shady enough, my friend's phone somehow disappeared! The food was subpar at best anyway -- I'd rather eat a TV dinner! I've been here twice, and each time it gets better and better! I invited a group of friends from out of town and they are still remembering the great time we all had here! Already was the worst bar in downtown but now add trained pick pocketer to the list. With its absolutely packed and overcrowded standard. (A legal fire hazard btw) its a dream place for pick pocketers. My friend has his wallet stolen and my watch from my wrist. You have to be trained to steal watches like that. This place doesn't have a kitchen, so either bring your own food (maybe from Sparky's across the street) or don't show up hungry. Otherwise, it's a pretty cool place. Went for happy hour and bartender with long hair and a few dreads gave us a happy hour menu. Ordered the $5 wine that was on the menu.
