They get 3.5 stars. Crispy vegetarian goose roll was decent & not drenched in sauce like at other places here so it was slightly crispy on the outside though the inside wasn't. Fried Rice Noodle with bbq pork (they were out of normal pork): scrambled egg sauce was unusually eggy. There was a nice smoky flavour & the noodles were slightly fried. The toppings were simple with only egg, pork & green onion. Egg bean curd and gluten in sa cha sauce on sizzling hot plate was not on a sizzling plate. It tasted decent with a very slight off-spicy flavour from the shacha sauce. I didn't notice any gluten. There was pineapple, red pepper, green pepper & shallots in the sauce. The interior of the tofu was pretty smooth but the exterior was quite rough. Complimentary red bean soup dessert was decent.

They slightly increased the price and changed the menu for the combo sets which is fine in this inflationary environment however did anyone also notice that they exclude the rice from the combo sets too? I made a take out order of the combo set and went in to pick up (which they were late and it's not even half full in the restaurant on a Sat night). After paying, I waited for my order. And when the order was almost ready, suddenly a staff told me, rice is no longer included in the combo sets, and asked if I want to order rice. I was like wtf I have never heard of Chinese combo sets that exclude rice and more importantly shouldn't they ask me earlier if I want to pay extra for the rice when I placed my order? So while the food here isn't bad with quite a lot of different options, such experience made me wonder how honest they are when they run this restaurant. Probably wouldn't go again. On the food itself: - salt and pepper deep fried fish was on the combo sets before but not anymore and that's the dish I liked the first time. Flaky bite size fish fillet that can satisfy your desire for deep fried food. - gai lan satay beef. No satay taste at all. - sweet and sour pork, pretty good with fresh pineapple and not too too thick batter. - curry, like the taste of it, and the beef brisket was tender but prefer some more other veggies such as bell peppers and carrots. - bitter melon with pork ribs. Bitter melon too thick so it's slightly on the bitter side. - beef with mushroom and onions. Not enough wok hey.

Fishbone Aurora was so good that my family made a reservation to come right after I finished my…read morebusiness meeting--it was that impressive! Everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. We started with the oysters, crudo, charred avocado, charbroiled Moroccan octopus, hot pull-and-tear bread, and the deep-fried Brussels sprouts. Every dish was packed with incredible flavour, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing. For our entrées, we had the Branzino and the Dukkah Roasted Lamb Sirloin with yam chips, and both were cooked to perfection. To complement our meal, we enjoyed two bottles of Bojador wine, which paired beautifully with our entrées and elevated the entire dining experience. We couldn't leave without dessert. The Portuguese tarts served with gelato were absolutely delicious--warm, flaky, and the perfect balance of sweetness. We also had the crème brûlée, which had a perfectly crisp caramelized top with a rich, creamy custard underneath. It was the perfect way to end an incredible meal. A huge thank you to Sarah and Jeff, who made both visits so memorable. They were warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely made us feel like valued guests. Their exceptional service was just as impressive as the food. It's rare to leave a restaurant and immediately want to come back the very same day, but Fishbone Aurora absolutely earned it. Whether you're looking for a place for a business meeting, a date night, or a family dinner, I can't recommend it enough. We'll definitely be back!

We recently celebrated a family birthday at fishbone for lunch and it was a great experience from…read moreservice to food. The restaurant is brightly lit with lots of natural sunlight, the decor is a mix of elegance and rustic at the same time. It's got an open and inviting feel. Our server was fantastic - very patient with a large group like ours, able to tell us right off the bat what is and is not customizable, recommendations of when to order to ensure flow works out. Food: Charbroiled octopus - one of my favorite dishes I tried - perfectly cooked, has a nice char, good meaty bits but not chewy, has a really nice chili oil on it. I can not stress how much I recommend getting this if you enjoy seafood. 5/5. Chorizo appetizer - comes out in a little pig plate with an open flame underneath. The chorizo itself is good with a nice spice, dense meat. The best part of this dish (IMO) is the spiced apple sauce on the side that cuts the richness of the sausage with a sweet and tangy apple and a little spice kick. 4.5/5. Bread - fresh baked bread with butter, a pumpkin jam and cheese. Everything on that plate works so well together. I definitely recommend this as an all rounding pleasing appetizer - 5/5. Beets - the beets were fresh with a vibrant orange colour. The apple, walnut and goat cheese all work together. I do wish this dish had a bit more but it works. 4.5/5. Brussel sprouts - amazing deep fried brussel sprouts - makes me want to always deep fry them for life. The spicy harissa sauce works well with the sprouts. Crunchy peanuts on top add both a texture and nuttiness that is refreshing to the brussel sprouts. 5/5. Oysters - super fresh, absolutely delicious without any condiments needed. Loved them. 5/5. Paella - this is definitely large enough for 2 people to eat so consider sharing unless you have a monster appetite. As with all their plates, it is beautifully constructed. The shrimp are huge and meaty. Mussels are plentiful, lots of chorizo and bay scallops. The rice has that really nice briny seafood flavor from the broth. It was just a teeny tiny bit overly salty to my taste but it's cut with the dollops of sour cream. Has this really nice low level heat that just works without burning your mouth. 4.5/5. Lamb sirloin - great crust on the lamb and cook as well. Flavorful sear and crust on the lamb with a soft tender meaty interior. Can't go wrong with- 5/5. Branzino - delicious flaky and light with a great grill. If you're interested in a fresh fish, this is a good choice. Was a special on the menu - 5/5. Prices: Fine dining pricing but you get the excellent food, service and experience for the price.

This is our go to fish and chips place. We get takeout a lot. Our older son loves loves everything…read more Only on one occasion did I find a bone in the fish. But after so many times doing takeout it only happened once, so not bad at all. Halibut: 4.75/5 crispy and then soft inside. Yum. Sometimes could be a little more tender but most times we have ordered it was perfect. Chowder: 6/5 So good. So much flavour. Mushy peas: 7/5 How do they make it like that?! Never will peas taste that good. Chips: 5/5 Great chips! And excellent gravy to accompany. Onion rings: 4.5/5 Pretty good! Sometimes the batter is a little consistent but they are good overall. Highly recommend!

Finding a good fish & chips spot can be tricky at times when you think about balancing price,…read moreportion size, the batter, and the chips. This spot did a pretty good job overall. The batter wasn't too thick, greasy, or salty, and the fish filet was thick enough that it retained its structure when eating (instead of becoming a flaky mess). Chips were decent, but not the standout for me. Even their seniors portion size of fish & chips is quite filling. I also really enjoyed the seafood chowder, though it was on the saltier side. Shocked at how large the bowl of chowder was for the price, and they did not skimp out on the ingredients. No one wants a chowder that's 80% roux/cream base and 20% veggies with canned or frozen seafood mixed in. Be forewarned that finding parking on Main St Newmarket can be challenging during events and busier times/seasons!

Came for Happy Hour, which is a good deal…read more Tuna Tacos were good except for the shell which was doughy. The hot sauce was good too, adding flavour & not just heat. Scallops & bacon were decent. Prime Rib Sandwich was pretty good with palpable cheese (sometimes you can't taste the cheese) & a crisp bun. The jus was decent. The side Caesar salad was pretty good with a strong garlic edge. Keg Burger was good with some char, a pretty moist patty & notably crisp pickles. The caramelized onions & cheese were good too. Fries were decent though slightly under salted. 1 fry was undercooked and mushy too. Complimentary bread was decent but could be fresher. The butter was good: light & with lots of other things in it.

So I'm struggling on an updated score here because last year, when I held my bday here it was…read morefantastic from start to finish, with ZERO ISSUE when it came to being seated. However, this year ... was a diff story. I made my bday reservation at this place again and was able to secure a res for ~17 ppl (I even updated the hostess with some calls as the # of guests fluctuated slightly). They were very accommodating although they didn't have any spots open for 6:30 or 7 pm which would've been ideal (it was either 5 pm or 8 pm). My entire party arrived 15-20 min early for our 8 pm scheduled res and as I (obviously) expected, the resto was absolutely packed out the wazoo around the front entrance. I quickly walked up to the reception and gave one of the hostesses my name, party size and # of guests. She told me it would be a 10-15 min wait as they finished preparing our table and gave me a buzzer to hang onto. After 20 min, I walked up to the front desk again where they proceeded to tell me that the table wasn't ready yet.... ok, we'll be patient but it's past our res time. Another 20 mins pass and I'm inquiring again at which point I think it was either the owner or manager comes out and tells us that the tables ready but the guests at the table aren't leaving. So then I'm a little annoyed and after ANOTHER 20 mins pass I ask again at which point the manager finally moves the guests occupying our table. For a total of 1 hour wait time past our allotted res, I would have to agree with reviewer, Bert F that the reservations should be honoured lol. Ok. Now that I've talked about that. They DID redeem themselves somewhat in my eyes. A BUNCH of appetizers for our group (I think 6 in total) on the house. There was a mom and dad in my party with a young child and she was SOOOO CRANKY because we were seated way past our dining time. Poor thing. Food was phenomenal still, as always. The Keg never disappoints on that front. Got my usual go-to order of the secret menu 24 oz prime rib, medium rare. Cooked perfectly, very juicy, very tender, very thick piece of meat. Twice baked potato was exquisite. Service was also pretty good for the night. Marcy and .... Sean I think his name was?? They almost forgot my complimentary billy miner pie slice but thankfully remembered before the bill arrived. I thought about dropping my rating down to 3 stars PURELY for the diabolical wait time but the food was still great, the service was good, still got my complimentary billy miner pie and we got free apps. Oh, and they also didn't rush us out of the resto when most of the dining tables had cleared out (actually the resto, in particular the bar was still pretty dang full still). We finished dining around midnight. So in light of all this, I only drop one star from my original 5 star review. Hopefully, next year if I do book here again we won't have to wait 1 hr past the scheduled res time.
