Meh. I was expecting more. The Nectarine pancakes were not very good. The only thing that was nectarine about them was the few slivers of fruit on top which were bland and flavorless. The actual pancakes were not fluffy- instead they were very dense and dry. Sad pancakes. The pecan pretzel crumble was delicious tho. The drip iced coffee was really tasty & the presentation of the actual dish was really pretty. The counter service was friendly. But I won't be returning in a hurry after spending $20 and not finishing my breakfast. Also I found it weird that they were out of proper silverware so I had to eat with a silver fork and a plastic knife, and the only napkins they offer are cocktail napkins. Baked goods looked delicious for the most part but sadly passed on getting one of "Oprah's favorite" cookies as the chocolate cookies from that day looked pretty burnt. Everyone at our table got quiche and I would confidently say the quiche Lorraine won, even over the caramel onion/leek quiche and eggplant quiche. You can add a healthy size side of greens for $3, which was a good supplement. The hash browns were unique as they were very thinly sliced. Laptops are not allowed on the first floor but are allowed on the second, so the 2nd floor was pretty quiet with people typing away. read more

It was a mixed bag. The chocolate chip cookie was dry, overcooked, and bland. It felt like a thin crunchy cookie but with the size of a big thick soft baked cookie. But without the concentration of the former or the chocolate decadence of the latter. The pistachio cake was inedibly dry. It was nearly sand. And the poor frosting could do nothing to redeem it. The pistachio pain au chocolat was Excellent. The cream was a little runny and liquid, rather than dense and thicker, but the flavors were really nice and the crumbled pistachios rather fun. It was hard to deal with the uneventful cookie especially after trying the same day one of the cookies at Levain bakery, which is served straight out of the oven, juicy, moist, flavorful and sensually full of chocolate. This is a review for croissants! +4 stars for cuteness, menu offerings, atmosphere and location, location, location. -1 star for the croissants left exposed to the humid air. Humidity kills all croissants. People know me as the croissant crusher and on my visit to Brooklyn a friend recommended Maman. I said "bien sûr"! The croissant was delightfully buttery and flaky. They heated it up a bit, which I thought would counter act the humidity in the air. It probably did but the butter was so moist that it wasn't as flaky as I liked, but the basic gist was there for me to know this gets a thumbs up. Served on a cute little white and blue porcelain plate, I devoured the croissant in appx 43 seconds. The decor is a shabby chic and very rustic French. Servers are friendly and she didn't give me a hard time for bringing in a Starbucks cup. :) I'd love to come back. read more

It hurts when a place is worthy of 5 stars on the outside but when it actually comes down to it, they barely hit the 2 star point. I have a new building on Kent St I'm working at and while I was doing an open house I remembered there's a quaint restaurant up the block where I can grab food at. My friend and I hopped skipped and jumped over but when we entered we were so confused. First of all, they have no staff working there. Like one person behind the counter and when we finally found another person, she was running back and forth between outside tables and a huge party upstairs (which I was informed about after we had already ordered our food). So we sit down and scan the menu. We're quick decision makers so we knew what we wanted right away but of course there was no one to take our order. To the point that after 10 minutes of sitting there I went inside to find someone who said she'll be out in a moment. Great! She comes out and takes our order, we do tell her that we don't have much time and she's like no worries and goes back in. Half hour later she comes out and says it's going to take a little more time because they have a big party upstairs. I was quite furious as she should have informed us prior to ordering after she knew we didn't have a lot of time to lounge around. What can we do? We weren't going to get up so we waited roughly another 10 minutes and boom our food came out. I will say everything "looked" appeasing. We ordered the Waffle Iron Hashbrowns, Grand Mamans Grilled Chicken Couscous Tabouleh and a Make Your Own Omelette. The Waffle Iron Hashbrowns was quite interesting with smoked salmon, avocado and egg. I definitely enjoyed that. I would not recommend the couscous as it was super bland and had no substance. The Omelette was also pretty mediocre as it kind of looked like it had been beaten to death. Anyhow we eat super fast as we're already late and figure we'll run inside and pay. Nah man, they don't accept payment inside for outside diners. Ridiculous right? So I run around searching for the staff who took my order and tell her I must get going and again about 10 minutes later she comes out with the check and thankfully takes our payment on the spot through an iPad (probably the only smart thing at this restaurant). Love this little gem - been coming here for years and I've never left dissatisfied. They have interesting pastries that you won't find anywhere else such as pistachio cakes and pistachio croissants. I took a look at the reviews to figure out why the ratings are so low in comparison with how good the food is - and it seems people don't like the service? Who goes to a bakery to make friends? The staff here does their job, and does it quite well. If you're lonely and need a place to talk, might I suggest seeking a therapist. But if you want great pastries, I highly suggest this place. Tried the pistachio chocolate croissant and the nutty chocolate chip cookie on a Friday morning. The croissant was gross - pastry cream inside is so saccharinely sweet that you cannot taste anything else. The pastry itself was soggy and dense...as if it was leftover from the day before. This is most likely the best Maman location of them all in my personal opinion. They offer(ed) an upstairs area for Brunch, already had outdoor seating, and always had a nice atmosphere for dining. Let's talk about the pastries. All good. Every single one. I sometimes have a hard time deciding which one to have, it's insane. I would try the Chocolate chip cookies or pistachio loaf. I really don't have anything more to add right now, I like this place overall. I'm rarely in Greenpoint but cannot remember a time when I've been in the area and not stopped here. Sometimes I only come to Greenpoint for Maman. My wife is a huge fan, and it has transferred to me. Review is for the chocolate chip and s'mores cookies. The chocolate chip cookie I think may be better than Levain's. This might be true for you if you've ever had hyped up chocolate chip cookies and thought, "this is just a bigger / sweeter / more chocolatey regular chocolate chip cookie." Or been halfway through a 6oz mega-Levain cookie and felt, "man, this is just a little too sweet and sticky. I need another glass of milk / mug of coffee." Reason being, Maman's whole-nut chocolate chip cookie gives textural balance with the crunchiness of nuts without taking away from the chocolate focused experience of a chocolate chip cookie. The edge and top of the cookie are still crusted and golden, with a gooey center, but with the nuts to break it up. The s'mores are less outstanding, and fall into the category of just "sweet gooey satisfying goodness" rather than all that and something more. If you're in NYC and are choosing one cookie, I'd recommend the Maman chocolate chip over the Levain one, but the other Levain cookies over the Maman s'mores cookie. read more

They were sold out of the Nutella cookie which I really wanted but the chocolate chip satisfied me anyway! I love Mamans, I really do. I have only been to their Nolita location but I was drawn to this storefront because of the beautiful flower display to find out...it was another Maman! But was sorely disappointed by their matcha latte. I essentially paid over $6 for light green milk. Which also took them FOREVER to make because their baristas were busy chit chatting. It was overall a very sad experience. The chocolate cookie however was delicious but I really don't know about $5 though. But I think this is what is to be expected from COVID. read more

I came here to pick up Mealpal, which typically takes less than 5 minutes at every other place. I waited 40 minutes and I still did not have my food. They kept saying it's coming right out. Then they notified me that they burnt the sandwich and it was their last one. So they let me replace it with another meal, but they didn't even offer anything else. Maybe, a cup of water would be nice in 90 degree weather. If you're feeling generous, maybe a cookie or a iced coffee Maman. But no, nothing was offered. I waited 1 full and 15 minutes after I got my replacement meal. They just kept saying it's almost done and the replacement meal will be fast. 30 minutes for a replacement is NOT fast. Only come here if you have nowhere to be and have all the time in the world. Customer service can be much better read more

This place is right next to my internship, so I'll come in every now and then for a nice, casual lunch. For the most part the food is great, but I have to say that it's a bit overpriced. The quiche is AWESOME. Definitely get that if you're going. Sandwiches are a little too much bread for my taste and I found that the bread itself was kind of oily, but they do have some really interesting options! I had one with veggies and goat cheese that was pretty tasty. Pastries and desserts are kind of eh. The banana bread was really dry, and I had the same issue with the chocolate chip cookie. The coffee's pretty good. Overall, I think it's just about ordering the right things. Great little spot! Went here and pushed together some tables on the upper level for a low key birthday brunch. You order downstairs and pay and the food is brought up to the table. Wide variety of pastries, brunch fare and salads. The table ordered a variety of options and additional pastries because they looked so good. The service was great and very low key. I passed by Maman as it was being built a long time ago and today was day we finally decided to go in. The inside is super cute (not super functional but cute nonetheless). It's kind of industrial chic which I think especially works in NYC. They had a large counter with pastries which looked good but not on the docket for todays visit. My husband and I each ordered a large regular latte ($4 - get the large it's only 50 cents more than the small and like twice the size). They came in the worlds cutest to-go cups (see photo). We decided to sit at the tables which are built for aesthetics not use. They are loosely attached the floor and sort of swing from the rope system - in my opinion not the best idea for hot beverages but hey to each their own. The place has a thousand chairs that make you wonder where people find lots of old crap and how do they decide that they will use it in a restaurant/coffee shop. There is an upstairs that has some restaurant style seating which is very cute. I looked at the menu online and saw that a croque "maman" is $16 upstairs or $8 down in the coffee area so that kind of bothers me but again... Overall, a very cute experience and pretty good lattes, not life changing but a good standard product with a super cute space to drink it in. read more

LOCATION + ATMOSPHERE: Recently moved to LIC, so café maman is a quick hop over the Pulaski! It is perfectly situated off the main drag, and also one block from the beautiful Transmitter Park. Outdoor seating is a huge draw. Great spot for a date, or group. the café is 100% kid friendly, so it's a joy to be able to dine with friends who have kiddos! Although it is laptop free, I completely respect that. It is not a we work- its a café! I appreciate that they keep the environment focused on the dining experience, as so many cafes can get very crowded with laptop users! FOOD: The food and beverage has always been consistent during my visits at maman. The avo-toast is always a hit. Beautifully plated, and garnished to perfection. The pancake special gets changed often- so fun! You can find toppings like salty caramelized peaches, chocolate and berries, or nutella and figs. Always delectable and such a treat from your usual diner pancake. Most recently I had the breakfast sandwich with bacon jam (DROOL)! It was one of the best brekkie sammies I HAVE EVER HAD! must must try! Maman also offers a variety of HOMEMADE pastries, cookies, and cake loafs. Must try the choco chip cookie w/ marshmallow, paired with an iced latte... HEAVEN :) BEV: so many teas to choose from, solid coffee and espresso drinks, and YUMMY juices and non-alcoholic sodas to choose from. this place has been, and will remain my go to fave for breakfast, brunch, and snacks! read more
