I have been here several times, mainly during the lunch service. It's a nice eatery in a small Eastern NC town. Staff is always pleasant, service is always good. It's a normal wait for the meals. As I mentioned in a previous review, the decor doesn't give the customer an "nice Italian dining" vibe. The pasta dishes are a good portion and has the flavor of standard Americanized Italian fare. That's not a negative opinion of the food, just a little info for the potential customer anticipating a gourmet Italian meal. We stopped at Mama's Pizza for lunch on our way headed further east on 64. I tried the Salami Sub while my dining companion opted for the baked Ziti. My sub was definitely on the sparse side. The 6ish inch sandwich arrived at the table warm on a small metal tray. The serving of salami was skimpy; I seriously doubt that it had much more than an ounce of salami and about the same size serving of mozzarella. Despite the modest amount of protein, it really was OK. I've had better versions of this sandwich, but I've had worse too. The baked ziti showed up piping hot in an enormous baking dish that dwarfed the metal tray of my sandwich. It was easily a large enough serving for two or possibly even three. I got to try a bite and it was also OK. There was a lot of pasta with a barely adequate serving of meat sauce and there was a lot more tomato sauce than meat in the sauce. The sauce was definitely on the sweet side; I've had baked ziti many times and do not recall ever eating sauce this sweet before. Our server was not overly attentive but did eventually refill our drinks. The restaurant is clean and had a bit of a 1990s feel. We both noticed that there was pay telephone in the lobby that appeared to work. It definitely reinforced the 1990s vibe. The restaurant charges a 4% fee to use a credit card. There really aren't too many dining options easily accessible off of highway 64 east of Rocky Mount until you reach the OBX. Momma's Pizza is a reasonable choice as long you have modest expectations. read more

The food was good here. Our server was friendly and attentive. We would give it a 4 * if only judging on those 2 criterias. There are two reasons that bring this establishment down to a 3 * rating. First, the place was not that clean. The bathrooms were a mess and there was one soap dispenser that was out of soap. I even saw a dead cockroach in the corner. Ewww! My sub was not made according to what I requested but the real problem was the burnt onion rings in which should have never been boxed and sent out. Was in williamston in a Sunday night and our go to was closed. Tried this place in a whim and was glad we did! He had a steak and cheese with fries. The bread was toasty and fries were hot and crispy. Steak was of good quality. I had a side salad off salad bar (had pizza'esque toppings available like canned mushrooms), but a good salad with tasted like homemade ranch. I also had a pepperoni and onion pizza that was really good. I asked for thin crust. Theirs is hand tossed so not like a cracker, but was thin and crusty how I like & not doughy. Ample pepperoni. This review is for the buffet as I did not order the fresh food. The buffet was recommended by our waitress. My wife and I are pizza lovers and thought the 4.5 stars would translate to the buffet. The first two pizza slices I got were cold and greasy/wet on the bottom. The chicken Parm was probably the best tasting of all the things I tried but was also cold and pretty flavorless. The spaghetti was literally noodles in tomato paste. No spices to be found. Then I saw it. A fresh pizza appeared. Hawaiian with ham and pineapple. One of my favorites. The pale pineapples should have been the first clue that my experience was not going to improve with this slice. I'm not sure how they store their pineapple slices but it's prob not in pineapple juice given the rubbery piece I ate. For desert they had nice rubber nuggets covered in a sugar based icing. They were quite cold and definitely gave my jaw a workout. Again, I'm not saying all the food is bad here. We were in town for an equestrian event at the nearby Bob Martin Agriculture Center and decided to give this place a chance. I am so glad we did!!! Amongst several friends, we got the lasagna, buffalo chicken wrap, Italian sub, and baked spaghetti. I honestly can't tell you which was my favorite because they were all DELICIOUS. The service was quick and the staff super friendly! I also had a real appreciation for the authenticity of this place. I have only had their takeout but it was great! We come down from VA quite often to visit family. Different ones have tried many menu options and I've heard nothing but good reports on it all. This deserves the stars. Amazingly friendly people. Samantha was the best waitress yet. She ran the place. We had a party of 13 and she had to handle rest of customers. Went for a quick bite to Mama's with co-workers while in Williamston and wanted a sit-down dining experience and so Mama's was recommended by the group. We were able to choose our table, place was crowded, but not packed. Our server came over, obtained our drink orders and we opted for the buffet. The buffet had a really fresh salad bar with what appeared to be freshly cut veggies. My only issue- iceberg lettuce. Ugh! Not a fan of iceberg, but oh well. At least it was fresh. Also available on the buffet were various pastas, pizzas by the slice, and some cinnamon dessert options. I didn't have dessert but another member of our party loved it, and went back for seconds. The food tasted like they were cooked fresh, not canned or warmed up, which is always a plus. Since Williamston lacks many food options, they are lucky to have Mama's. The portion sizes are good, some dishes large enough for me to split with my husband.I love the eggplant parmigiana, add onions and mushrooms, really good. The calzones, and stromboli are good too.
