On our way through Angola on a trip across the country, I'm so glad we had a chance to stop at Mama's for breakfast. The portions are generous, the prices reasonable, the servers welcoming and friendly, and the place itself is warm and inviting. It's just the sort of place that scratches that "home cooking" itch, without you having to do the dishes afterwards. The biscuits and gravy alone are worth the trip - even a half-order is plenty to satisfy the craving for a big fluffy biscuit covered in rich sausage gravy. Seriously, I could eat that stuff with a spoon, it's so good. My wife and I both got one of their casserole skillets, and we had leftovers for further down the road. For a meal that feels like you're home in Angola, take yourself to Mama's and tuck in. It's worth it. read more

We're Mama's lovers and haven't had the chance to check out the new location since they moved. GREAT location!!! Ample parking and so much bigger. If you've not been, they are in the old Auntie V's next to Walgreens. Love love love!!! Friday - 12:30p - what are the chances we beat the rush or they're slammed? Got right in! Instead of ordering my usual Old Mother Hubbard, I took a chance on the BPT. I'm glad that I did. This is by far the best BPT I think I've ever had. Hand pounded thick, fresh, juicy & tender. Perfect amount of seasonings! I opted for their sweet cole slaw to dress the old BPT with. When you grow up penguin point - you KNOW. 10/10 Next one will be with cheese and ketchup. Yelpers, you didn't let me down! We were headed to Pokagon State Park and wanted a heavy breakfast before starting. I had the biscuits and gravy and it didn't disappoint. I always hedge my bets and order a side of sausage in case the gravy is lacking. There was no need - the gravy is chock full of delicious bits of sausage and seasoned beautifully. The side of hash browns were crispy outside and blissfully soft inside. There was minimal seasoning, nothing a little hot sauce and ketchup couldn't fix. A ridiculous amount of food for our family of three was around $40. They also have a little candy counter with some current candies and old fashioned candies. (Melody Pop, anyone?) Service was prompt and helpful. If we lived closer, I could see this being in our regular breakfast rotation. p.s. The biscuits are HUGE. Like, really huge. I ordered the 1/4 biscuits and gravy, which comes with 1/2 a biscuit. It was more than enough for a small appetite. read more

What a hidden gem! Well sized portions, great and quick service, appropriately priced meals, and excellent homemade food! Arrived Sunday morning around 9 AM and it was jampacked so I knew this place would be good. I read the reviews, of course before I decided to eat here. Older woman, possibly the owner seated us at the table. Another server came by and got us coffee and water, and then our server approached and took her Order food came out hot and quick. Very tasty. Very good. The best part of the meal was the cinnamon butter for my raisin toast. It is a must try. It's a great breakfast place but expect to possibly wait as they are busy. In our ongoing search of good food in and around the Fort Wayne area we found Mama's place. Let me tell you, we are super happy we did! An immediate greeting and welcome as you walk in, followed by a very attentive service at the table by numerous warm and happy servers. Before we even get into the food, you should know you will enjoy service not only by your own server, but any of them walking by, filling up your drinks or making sure your food is good and how you like it. The food, YES, it is worth your drive wherever you may come from. We made the 35 minute drive and planning to go back many times!! The OMG 5 egg omelet was Outstanding!! The Meatlovers skillet with amazing gravy on top, Hell Yeah!! The Blueberry pancakes, you can't go wrong with!! Wait, I'm not done... the homemade bread is amazing!! Breakfast was so so.. too much food.. party of 3.. hubby and I should have split.. there is short senior menu and we spotted specials afterwards ( pet peeve when server doesn't tell the specials). One had the breakfast burrito absolutely a glutenous meal.. enough for 3... one had 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy, again a huge cake like biscuit but tasty. The third had standard fair 2 eggs scrambled, sausage patties ( over cooked), hash browns ( limpy defrosted shredded potatoes, no crisp or brown) and homemade raisin toast (delicious). Service was good, seated quickly even though busy. Coffee was better than most casual restaurants and fill ups were often. Parking plentiful. I would return and just try something else..and ask for crispy hash browns. read more

Nice little place in Angola thats not far from Trine University. The son and I were a little early for his drop off time for a summer camp so we decided to try Mama's. We are visiting from out of state and was told this place had not only a great selection but good food. They were correct. The fried mushrooms and fried green tomatoes were so good! I adore divey retro breakfast places, and Mama's Place is exactly that, except with excellent food. Much better than I expected. They atrocious decor can even be forgiven. Really, the only change I'd make, is a better coffee. It's not bad, but it does taste like the decor. read more

I was in Angola for a bachelorette party - there was 8 of us. We were searching for a diner and came across Mama's place! They were able to accommodate all of us and we were served very quickly with waters and coffees. The staff was so kind and social. The food was soooo good. Most of us chose one of the skillets. I love the local restaraunts and I wanted to like Mama's Place before I left town. The first problem I had was that they didn't want me to leave, as in they thought if they made me wait to be greeted, to place an order, deliver my food, or get me checked out then the longer I would be there. Walking in the place was unique. The interior designer thought I will add this today and did. There is nothing wrong with that as the decor is what you would expect from a place called Mama's. The bathtub salad bar was a first for me. In general the place was clean but the tables were slow to be bussed.I was hoping that was because the waitresses were so busy giving great customer service but after walking out the door I concluded they were just slow in general and probably could have used a few more people on the clock. The second problem was the food was decent and it took way too long when added to the delays in service. Unfortunately it was not anywhere as good as my momma made, had it been better my rating would have been too. Eggs needed a lot of salt and pepper, potatoes needed to be cooked longer, and the bacon wasn't even luke warm. My brother liked their biscuits and gravy but stated it wasn't worth the wait. The place was decently busy for small town USA but better staffing, a general sense of urgency, and a few apologies for unneeded delays would have been enough for me to bump this place up even with the average meal. Breakfast should not take 70 minutes from door to door. Several people have recommended this place to me, I just didn't eat the meal or get the service they led me to expect.I will try this place again during the summer and hope that I caught them on a bad day. read more

When you're in the middle of nowhere in Indiana and you see a restaurant called Mma's kitchen, you need to stop and try two things, the chili and the gravy. You know the chili is good when you're scraping the last of the bowl with your spoon. The sausage gravy was the best I have ever had, but to be honest, it's the only one I've ever had, hahahahhaha. It was soft and mild and with a very light floury flavor. The little tiny pieces of sausage were a bit sweet and balanced well with the saltiness of the gravy itself. I ordered a Phili skillet which was a base of egg with onions and potatoes and roast beef. It was good but not something I would order again. It was a bit too greasy. It was also a bit bland. The waitress said it was her favorite. The music was light country music 105.5 radio. The decor was, well, like mamas kitchen. 5 stars given for the restaurants available in the area. read more

My husband and I and our friends could not believe the quality of food coming out of this place! The country fried pork steak paired with the most wonderful house made biscuits and sausage gravy floored me! It was absolutely delicious! Hands down the best country fried steak I have ever had. Even the rest of the people in my party agreed it was the best they ever had as well. Pure genius. That's all I got to say! And I'm planning on being back about every Sunday I can.. Update! I went back in Sept 2014 to see how things had progressed since my last review in June. Service is much better, prompt, attentive and helpful with menu items. Biscuits and gravy, Yes your biscuit is HUGE, but gummy and tasteless. The sausage gravy is bland, no seasonings and I do not know you make sausage gravy without spiced sausage, they managed. Turkey Manhattan was dry, bread hard (stale??) and gravy again lacked any flavor at all. We will NOT be back to give it another try. read more

Good sized restaurant in .  It is about 15 min off the interstate but so far well worth the trip.  The place holds about 100 or so in two rooms.  There is a very interesting table/claw bathtub in the second room. The western skillet was amazing.  Two eggs scrambled with two sausage patties and hash browns covered in sausage gravy sprinkled with cheese.  I got a fresh side biscuit which was clearly home made in a pan.  It was light and fluffy the like of which cannot be found in chicago.   The bacon was also perfectly cooked to order, and not the pre made pile of bacon city diners make. The sausage gravy is a good thickness and very flavorful, but not a lot of chunks of sausage This place is a gem and worth the time off the expressway. The staff was Freindly and inviting. They move at a pace which is consultant with the area. So not a place if u are in a rush. If you want a nice break from driving and a relaxed breakfast this is the place. read more
