I saw this restaurant from the main street while we were heading to downtown Angola. When we got to the downtown, there wasn't really anything we wanted to do or see. But, we were hungry. We looked for nearby restaurants (my sister used Google, I think, and I used Yelp), and we both decided that this looked good. I was kind of excited, since I'd seen it earlier. I just love little diners. It's a pretty small restaurant with a very friendly staff. They have a nice variety of meals, and their prices are incredibly reasonable; I got a large salad for under $11, and my sister got a small one for under $9. The small one at home would have easily been $12- $15 at home! Both were huge! I took home probably 2/3 of mine and half of my sister's. and got 2 more meals out of it. And their iced tea was freshly brewed and they kept refilling our glasses. They also had a variety of pies, although we didn't want any. They do charge 3% for using credit cards, but they also make it abundantly clear before you pay; there are signs on both doors, another by the register, and they also tell you. I actually complimented them on how they inform their customers of that fact. If you're hungry and near the Village Kitchen, it is absolutely worth stopping. read more

If looking for a mom and pop restaurant that serves quality food at very reasonable prices, this is a great option in Angola. We noticed the sign, seat yourself, and found a number of clean tables. We were quickly approached by the server, provided us with a menu and took our drink order. We opted for the turkey BLT, which was delicious and a great portion. This was a fantastic place to eat!! The people couldn't be nicer and the food was homemade like you got back in the day of real potatoes and applesauce. It was so good the first day we went, we took my 87 year old mom two days later. She isn't a big eater, but here not only did she clean her plate, but polished off a piece of pie! She is also going to bring her friends on their Friday dinner date. We drove from CA and when we get back in the Angola area next time this is a definite stop!! Treat yourself! Service here used to be the best in town. That has definitely changed. Waitress was clearly in a rush even though the place was empty. Not a single employee said a word or checked on the table to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything. A straw would have been nice. I could have used a cup of mayo. I wanted a piece of cheesecake and the little one would have liked a piece of pie. Mcdonald's has better service. I'm not even sure I want to get carryout from here any more. Might be time to sell the place to somebody that wants to run a restaurant. read more

I DEFINITELY recommend this place. Passing through the area to get home. I read about this place on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. What a wonderful restaurant. The waitress was on top of her game. She told us about the specials. And we both ordered the salmon. I had garlic and butter and my husband had the black and blue salmon. What a huge piece of fish nicely grilled, skinless and delicious. We both ordered mashed potatoes with gravy; they were nice and hot. It came with a side and we ordered the salad. It is a great greasy spoon with down home charm. Reminds me of local diner in rural WI when I was a kid. Doesn't show on Yelp result which makes me question what Yelp shows We only eat breakfast there, but they likely offer lunch.. Weekends are very busy, so you might want to go during church hours. My husband and I wanted to try something different today so we thought we would give this place a try. We stood at the door for 10 minutes while 3 employees walked past us and didn't even acknowledge us but did the people in front of us and behind us. We ended up leaving after the same person had passed us twice. I don't normally post negative reviews because I have worked in customer service my entire work career so I completely sympathize that sometimes you have off days and of course they were busy however no one said anything to us. Stopped here after a day of hiking and swimming at Pokegon State Park. My husband and I both got the fish basket and I'm so glad we did! Came here on a recommendation from a long time resident and was pleased I listened to her advice. This local institution is a nice change of pace to the national chains and far superior to any fast food breakfast. After walking in the door I was quickly greeted, seated, and drinking coffee. There is nothing special about the decor, but the kitchen and wait staff make up for it by providing great service. The dining room was clean, didn't use a restroom, and they do a good job of bussing tables. I will say it reminds me of my uncles basement he redid himself in the 1970's. The place was busy with people that had probably been coming there that long as multiple tables all seem to know each other and were on first names with all the staff. It didn't take long to figure out what I wanted and my order was taken and came out very quick for the number of people that were in the dining room. Eggs were cooked perfect, hash browns were great, bacon could have been a little crispier, and I wished they had sour dough toast. My buddy got a huge Southern omelet that made me jealous. Our waitress checked in on us multiple times for refills, quality checks, and to see if we wanted anything else The portions were big and the prices were small. We were recommended to try this restaraunt and I am glad we did. As soon as we were seated, the wait staff greeted us and let us know about the daily specials. As soon as the waitress noticed we had decided on our menu choices she was right there to take our order. The food was prepared pretty quick and brought to the table hot. The prime rib I ordered was rare and was just delicious. My wife ordered fried shrimp and they were tastey as well. During the meal, the waitress checked in our dining to ensure our needs were met. Before VK had to close due to the virus we ordered take out and got the fish dinners. We previously had been there quite a few times for breakfast (and we'll certainly be back to try the Prime Rib when you reopen). I have allergies x10 so I don't eat out often, but this is our favorite place for breakfast.. hot, fast, and they 'get it' when I say I can't have certain foods..very accommodating. The two fish dinners/specials were cooked just right.. not all breading either., lots of fish.. the fries were hot and not greasy. Sometimes you just don't know how it's going to turn out when you are only allowed to do 'pick up'.. but this was a delight! Thank you so much to the staff! read more

Very reasonably priced. It's always busy but you can usually find a spot to sit down. The menu is very average for the region. Good Midwestern menu items and the food comes out very quickly. I used to work close to village kitchen and was able to eat there on my lunch hour and have ample time leftover. One word of advice: ask for a half order of fries or share a full order with someone because they give you a TON with your meal and I usually feel bad if I waste food. read more
