After reading ALL the great things about MAMA'S Restaurant here, we decided to give them another try at the New Location on Broadway. We had a previous negative experience at the 5th St Location. We went to eat after the lunch rush and got there around 3:00 pm. My wife ordered a Chicken fried Steak and I decided to have Breakfast since it is served "ALL DAY" and got the T-bone and eggs platter that comes with 3 pancakes. While waiting, Dino, our server brought us chips and two different types of salsa. The one I ate was the green salsa that had a hint of jalepeno and was DELICIOUS! Our food arrived about 20-25 mins after we ordered. The Pancakes were the WORST I HAVE EVER HAD! THEY TASTED LIKE THEY WERE DEEP FRIED IN LARD! So, I decided to eat my eggs and the typical T-Bone you get at most Mexican restaurants. They asked if they could get me something else and the cook brought me two pieces of Garlic bread which was hot and tasty. Huh? The place is dank and depressing, and the Tex-Mex was bland. And the pool of solidifying grease at the top end of my enchiladas was hardly appetizing. Man, I'd love to take several busloads of you Tylerites to Austin for quality Tex-Mex so y'all will understand what y'all are missing. read more

I've tried this place a few times with poor results. The food I received hasn't been very good. Final straw was when they served me a grossly overcooked hamburger. It was cooked to death. Tough and dry. A total disgrace. " Restaurant Impossible" the TV show needs to come show these dumb asses how to cook. read more

Solid, solid breakfast. I'm in town for two weeks on business and found this place here on Yelp. Agree with Robert S. on one point - the place is kinda dark and dank. However, the breakfast was good. Biscuits and gravy, hash browns and chicken fried steak were all good. Not the best I've ever had, but better than hitting up McDonald's or Cracker Barrel on a Sunday morning. read more

I do aggree the place is dark, however it used to be a local Italian resturant and the building has lots of history. I for one, don't mind the darkness when I have a massive hangover, ihop and Denny's feels like you got put on blast and everyone can see your bloodshot eyes. True, the dang tex-mex is so... un-Austin.. But if u want good service and to not feel herded like cattle, shuffeled to your seat, all to be thrown out of the place then this is your spot. BTW, this is the best place we have around here for breakfast right now (if you dont believe me, try the Dennys in town) but next time I can wait 3 and 1/2 hours to have breakfast, I'll be sure to head straight down 35. read more

Delicious food and nice staff. Didn't get a lot of attention from the waiter. Didn't appreciate it when he came out to the parking lot and asked me if I was going to pay for the meal. He hadn't seen that I left cash on the table. Left a bad taste in my mouth about this quaint place. Small establishment with the quickest service I've seen. Went here 2 Sunday's ago after church while visiting Tyler. We put our names down for a table for 3. Naturally I was expecting the regular Dallas waits of 45 minutes. The hostess said our table will be ready in about 15 min. 7 minutes later we were seated and ready to eat. I ordered the French toast with I think ,Cowboy potatoes. ALL WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love breakfast. And I absolutely loved Mamas. Our server was great. Will be back for sure . read more

Excellent food! We've had the chicken enchiladas twice and it's the best. This our new go to Mexican food place.

The food was great! Our waitress was a blast! We felt right at home! The portions were generous and everyone left full and happy.

I normally go and the food is great but today 10/1/19 I went and the male server I had was rude, never talked to me just look off while taking my order. I waited 20 minutes for a glass of water that I had to ask the lady cleaning the tables to get for me. If you go ask for a female server or you may get lucky and he will be nice like a waiter should. read more

Mamas is my new go to place. Their food is cheap and good with a variety of selection to choose from. I have visited this place several of times and every time I went there I left satisfied. Every dish comes out in huge portions and most of them are less than $10. Servers are nice and attentive. Only bad thing about this place I would say is the parking can be a pain at times when it gets packed. But other than that, the place is an amazing place to go eat and people need to try it out! read more

I have been eating in this establishment since its opening. Over the years the service and food I find lacking. You might ask why I kept going back. The answer is simply that I was hoping maybe enough people complained and somehow they would make changes. With that said I was there yesterday and I WILL NO LONGER BE A CUSTOMER OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT. They have clearly proven that the saying " The customer is always right doesn't pertain to them or they just simply don't care about thier consumers. ITS ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR AND GREED. Of course thats my opinion. They charged me 88 cents for extra onions. I had never been charged for extra onions there before in all the years I have darkened thier door. The portion sizes of the dinner meals have become smaller while the prices have become more expensive. So in conclusion I went to pay my check and had inquired about the up charge of 88 cents for the extra onions and was told that they have been charging extra for onions since they opened and there was nothing she could or would do about it. Beware of this place if you like being treated as a valued customer. read more

My mom and I had the opportunity to have a late breakfast at Mama's a week or so ago and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a Monday morning about 10:00 so there were only a handful of customers in the place. We appreciated how quiet it was and both thought it was kind of quaint that they had Andy Griffith playing on the big screen TV. This place used to be Joe's Italian Grill and, before that, it was Hoffbrau Steakhouse. The decor hasn't changed much from its previous incarnations and is divey and comfortable. Our waitress seated us promptly and was very patient when it took Mom more than a few minutes to read the menu and make her mind up. We both ordered from the breakfast menu and I had perfectly acceptable hot coffee within minutes of ordering it. Our food was served promptly and we dove in. Mom ordered the Bacon and Egg breakfast which consisted of three eggs, four (yes, four) strips of bacon, hash browns and toast. It was an enormous amount of food, but Mom was up to the task. She declared the scrambled eggs to be fluffy and flavorful and her bacon was exactly as she had ordered it: extra crispy. I ordered the Senior breakfast: over medium eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancakes. The eggs were perfectly cooked and delicious and the bacon, while not the thick-cut country style I prefer, was still good. The pancakes were decent. The only downside was the hash browns. They appeared to have been cooked ahead of time and then heated up. Left most of mine. Also, $2.09 for a cup of coffee seemed a bit steep considering my whole breakfast was only $5.99. That said, this is a cool little Mom and Pop kind of place and I'm eager to go back and try something off the lunch menu. I hear the chicken fried steak is really good. read more

I've eaten here multiple times and made multiple to go orders. I love the food but the way the restaurant is run definitely needs some help. Went in at 3 pm on a Sunday and they ran out of chips and refused to make anymore, because they close at 5 and are cleaning the kitchen. Every time I make a to go order at least one thing is wrong on the order. I have tried to call and talk to the manager just to let them know what is going on with my order and have been told that he is too busy and can't come to the phone, and that he will call me back. No phone call back and when I call again he is still too busy to come to the phone. Sounds like this restaurant could use some customer service training and maybe some new management. read more

The food is great! Definitely has that homemade touch! I had the Machacha for breakfast and the servings were plentiful. My wife had biscuits and gravy and the biscuits were perfectly airy - not dense like most I've had. I like the rustic charm and the Mexican-American mix of food. Good prompt friendly service by the waitress. Just enough attention, not too much, but not forgotten either! They give you a carafe of coffee so that helps in refilling your cup yourself as needed! Tasty pancakes, and eggs...bacon...blah...too greasy and under cooked though. read more

I LOVE Mamas. Been here multiple times. But today, good grief. Easily the worst service I've ever had. I used to be a server and I completely understand how hard the job is, but no. This was bad. Brought out my dates meal first, and it was cold, they then brought mine out 15 minutes later (which kinda negates the point of going on a date?). I then get my food. Got the wrong tortillas. Waiter does not come to the table 5 minutes, which is when I decide that I want to try to at least a bite with the love of my life, so I walk up to the counter and ask for the correct tortillas and things and the server did NOT like that. I get it, but at this point my lunch has been 45 minutes long and I haven't eaten my food? So we decide to just get to go boxes and eat it after heating it up at my house. So, we try to check out. The lady checking me out asked how it went and I said poorly because of, well, read above. She then said "oh yeah, they had hers sitting up there because you ordered the brisket and that takes a while with the frozen meat." No joke. Not a great look. Not sure why you would tell me this. Then, the credit card machine is not working and it takes about 10 minutes just to check out. I clocked over an hour at this restaurant without eating a meal. Idc who you are that's almost impressively bad. Also, not looking for freebies, but with that bad of experience you'd think you would comp something, send a manager over, pretty much anything other than what our waiters did which was ignore the problem. read more

Just what the names says, you feel like your walking into your Mama's house with the delicious smelling aromas and friendly people greeting you at the door. The place was clean, service was perfectly friendly and efficient, and the food was great. The Migas was some of the best I've ever had (and I'm pretty much a migas connoisseur). My boyfriend had the Joe's Sampler (Tuesday special) which was a good variety although he felt the sausage left a lot to be desired (the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars). Best food at the best price! Heaping portions of food...so much that it could easily be two meals. With the HUGE variety of food to choose from I was worried it might not be good...boy was I wrong.
