Yo Mama Sushi in Williamsburg needs to be studied by scientists because I still can't understand how they managed to mess up THIS bad. Me and my wife came here expecting the same experience we got from the Elizabeth location when they were open. Instead, we walked into what felt like a social experiment on patience and bad food. Got there at 7:48 PM. Didn't get seated till after 8. Food ain't come out till almost 8:50 PM. Damn near an hour wait just to get served cold food is insane work. I ordered the grilled chicken bento box with brown rice. My wife got the teriyaki chicken bento box. Both plates came out cold like they were stored next to a body in the morgue. Rice was hard enough to break a windshield. Chicken was rubbery like they grilled a flip flop and sliced it up. Then came the Mexicano sushi roll... man WHAT was that? Looked nothing like the menu. Avocado was brown, shrimp still had shell pieces on it, and the whole thing tasted like it was made three business days ago and left in a refrigerator. And somehow they had the confidence -- the AUDACITY -- to charge $8 for water. WATER. At that point just spit in my face and call it customer service. This place is overpriced, overhyped, and honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. We will never be back. Do yourself a favor and go to Apollo Restaurant down the block instead. Better food, better drinks, and the Henny Coladas actually slap. read more

Came here for my husband's birthday on Cinco de Mayo. We were originally looking for Mexican food (obviously ) but the lines at the 3 nearby Mexican restaurants were insane, so we ended up here instead. At first the place was pretty empty, but honestly it turned out to be a nice surprise. We were seated by the open area and the weather was beautiful -- sunny, relaxing, and the wine just hit perfectly. The gentleman helping our table was very friendly and welcoming. Then a waitress came over with iPads for the menu which we thought was pretty cool and modern. We ordered a pitcher of coconut margaritas. The price was great and they tasted really good, just not very strong. For appetizers we got the calamari, crab cakes, and chicken bites. The crab cakes were SUPER tiny, but the chicken bites were delicious. My husband ordered a steak sushi roll and really enjoyed it. My 13-year-old got a burger which surprisingly she didn't like... kind of shocking because it's hard to mess up a burger. I ordered the teriyaki chicken with rice and it was SO good. I even took leftovers home and ate them for lunch the next day at work. As the night went on the restaurant started getting busy, which made sense because all the nearby Mexican spots still had crazy lines. The downside was the service started slipping. We had to look around for the waitress multiple times just to get water and napkins, and it felt like the gentleman was handling most of our table instead. The bathroom was downstairs on the food side and was pretty clean. What really made me take away a star was the payment process. When it was time to pay, they brought the little card machine over with only the total on it and no itemized receipt. I like to know exactly what I'm being charged for before paying. Gratuity wasn't included, and we still tipped 18% because we do appreciate good service and we go out to eat often, but between having to search for service and not getting a detailed bill, it honestly left a bad taste and made me unsure about coming back. Overall, the food was mostly good, the atmosphere was nice, and I can see why the place filled up by the time we left, but they definitely seemed understaffed for the crowd they ended up getting. read more

1 star -- and that's being generous. We chose Mamasushi to celebrate my son's birthday last Saturday. What should have been a special night turned into an embarrassing and disrespectful experience. The server started off polite, took our order -- and then disappeared. Our drinks never arrived. No one checked on us. We were completely ignored. While we were still seated and planning to order dessert, we overheard a staff member say, "Get them out... I need that table." On a child's birthday. That was beyond unprofessional. Minutes later, the check was dropped with a rushed apology. The bill included two drinks we never received. They removed them -- but still added gratuity. Let's be clear: gratuity reflects service. Not going to lie, I was a little worried based on the mixed reviews, but I'm here to give Mamasushi their 10's! My reservation was for 7:00 but I arrived a little early.. I asked my server if I could order a few items from the happy hour menu while there were just a few minutes to spare, and she obliged! I was so appreciative. I order a few sushi rolls, some fried shrimp, bao buns, a Philly cheesesteak egg roll, and drinks. Each item was only $8! When some sushi rolls could be about $20 on the regular menu, the happy hour prices were really a steal so I would recommend an early reservation to take advantage of it. When my friends arrived we ordered some more dishes like additional rolls, the lobster carbonara, and the fried rice with every kind of protein under the sun. Everything was really tasty and we left happy and full! Service was great and there was no wait or delay for anything. I came here for happy hour at it was fun. Happy hour is 4pm-7pm Monday to Friday. They offer $8 happy appetizers and drinks. They even have a rooftop open only on weekends. For cocktails Mamasushi Punch 9/10 Food Chicken Poppers 10/10 Calamari 6/10 Popcorn Shrimp 8/10 Philly cheesesteak Egg Rolls 7/10 the sauce was good the meat could've been seasoned more. The rooftop is where it's at! Besides the great drinks and fusion sushi rolls, the rooftop is very relaxing and had a good vibe for the summer. The wait staff; very attentive and quick with everything because they have a station on the rooftop which makes service efficient. My family and I came here for m nephew's JHS graduation. My nephew loves sushi and most of my family loves any dish with rice so this was the perfect fusion. My and Sister and I ordered frozen margaritas but the machine was unfortunately not working but no fear! I ended up getting a yummy Piña Colada like my best friend had. The rest of drinks and food came out shortly. The ambiance was amazing. I noticed that you could order hookah which I love but my baby was at the table lol. Mid way through our meal, the lights turned colorful and the restaurant became a vibe. The food was so yummy. My son had the 12oz NY strip medium well and it tasted do good! You can taste the yumminess of the grill. It was perfect. Juicy and tasty. The French fries were good and crispy. My mom got the Seared Salmon. I didn't get to try it for myself but she said it was delicious. It came with a side of hibachi style vegetables which consisted of zucchini, carrots & onions. My brother had the Chicken Teriyaki which he said was okay. My Stepdad had the Shrimp Bento Box and My nephew, the graduate had a Carajito Chicken Panko with a Shrimp Tempura on the side. He said it was good. And finally Me and My Bestfriend @Pamdeolall understood the assignment lol and both had a plate of an El Campesino roll along with a Traditional California Roll. The California was good as usual and El campesino was delicious too. It was queso de frier, avocado, fried salami in a roll with sweet plantain on top which was amazing. The only ask I would say is that the roll could've been warm. I know it's sushi but when eating those elements like the sweet plantain and cheese, I love them to be warm. One of their new locaations located in Williamsburg. Ive been to other locations and always enjoy this place. Mamasushi brings a Japanese and Dominican fusion to sushi. Sometimes a place is a hit or miss. On this particular visit it was a miss. We dined up stairs on the roof top.( girls night just 3 of us) Saturday evening; finally the weather was decent after this recent heat wave. The decor through out the place is nice. The service has potential. The guy helping us was nice but overwhelmed and the other staff didnt come upstairs until much later to assist him. We ordered cocktails and it took 1 hr to come. They claimed the system was down . But tables that were seated after us received their drink orders. We requested to speak to the manager we were told the person was busy. The manager never came tbh I dont think one was present. The food also took a long time to come and it came before we got utensils or dipping sauce. We ordered the : grilled octopus sushi 6/10 Fried pork sushi 6/10 Crab cakes 8/10 ( it was just cold) Philly cheese steak egg rolls 8/10 (also needed to be hotter) Lollipop lamb chops 7/10 ( a bit tough and cooked more then we requested) Yucca fries 10/10( served at the right temp and not greasy) My cocktail was red sangria it tasted like fruit punch with apples cut up in it 3/10 For desert we got the chocolate cake with ice cream 5/10 I would want to come back maybe in the week to try out happy hour and see how they do. I hadn't been here in years since the only ones I had been to was the one uptown. However, I was excited to see it near my house! We went for dinner on a Sunday night. The food was good the quality from the fake crab, wassabi and ginger not so much. I would suggest the quality to be better since the prices are expensive. The service was good the waiter was attentive. The drinks were pricey as well. The ambiance was okay. I had the Kani Salad aside from the fake crab I found it to be good. We went to the Brooklyn location on Friday, August 8th to celebrate my daughter Octavia's birthday. We went to the rooftop and was greeted by Jay. He gave us exceptional service all night long. We went during Happy Hour. The food selection was amazing. EVERYTHING we ate was top notch. We had calamari, sushi, cheese steak egg rolls, wonton tacos, dumplings, and fried snapper. I was thrilled to see MamaSushi open so close to home and was excited when my friend chose it to celebrate her birthday with seven of her closest friends. We arrived at 5 PM, and while there were a few customers, it wasn't too busy. The decor was stylish, and at first, our server, Anthony, was attentive. Since I have a shellfish allergy, I ordered the vegetable dumplings. As the happy hour plates started arriving, everyone enjoyed their appetizers--except for me. I patiently waited for my dumplings, but after an hour, they were still nowhere in sight. At no point did the server check in with us. When I finally asked about my order, Anthony admitted that it was never placed but assured me he would put it in right away. Another 30 minutes passed, and still no dumplings. By this point, everyone had already finished their appetizers, and I told the server I no longer wanted them. He insisted they were coming out soon, but when they finally arrived, they were cold and completely unappetizing. This experience was disappointing, to say the least. Poor service, forgotten orders, and cold food are not what I expected from this restaurant. Based on my visit, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. From the tacky iPad menus, to the immediate delivery of spicy mayo (definitely intentioned to hide the awful taste of the food), to the ridiculous pricing, to the blaring party music, to the impressively bad service, to the world's saltiest miso soup, MamaSushi is hands down the worst "sushi" (it's not) restaurant I've step foot in in my life. If I go back it would only be for happy hour when the menu prices are drastically cheapest which is probably why it was soooo empty on a Sunday and skip the sushi.
