I checked out Apolo after hearing about it through word of mouth. You don't find many Chinese-Spanish spots anymore, so I had to give it a try. The service was okay overall, but I was a little thrown off by the sign that says there's an automatic 15% service charge. When the bill came, they still asked about tip since you pay at the counter which left me confused. Do they want a tip on top of that? It felt a bit off. If you do takeout, it seems like it comes out cheaper. That said, I noticed a lot of regulars coming in, which gave the place a nice neighborhood vibe. As for the food, I ordered the house lo mein and the portion size was huge, definitely great if you're hungry or want leftovers. I also got the tostones with garlic dip, which were delicious. I went to New Apolo with the gf for the first time the other night and I have to say, it was pretty good experience. I ordered the sesame chicken with white rice and a side of plantains. I was definitely impressed with the portions and also how fast they were to bring out the food. I also appreciated how quickly that kept refilling our water. I didn't exactly like how they asked us to "round up" our bill by a few dollars, even after 15% service charge is included in the bill. That was the sole reason for deducting a star. read more

I will not be returning. The food was genuinely bad. The chicken chunks and onion steak were extremely salty, looked old, and the chicken was hard and overcooked. Overall, it was very unpleasant. What made the experience worse was the checkout. The order was to-go, yet when I was handed the check totaling $63.45, the man at the counter told me he would "round it up to $65.00" and said that the tip is always included. This was never disclosed upfront. I told him no--that if anything was being rounded, it certainly wouldn't be up. Decided to drop by on a Saturday night for a quick bite. We immediately were seated and given menus. I ordered the beef palomilla with a side of rice. The beef was tough to chew on some ends. The sweet plantains I had was pretty good. I did see the previous reviews regarding automatic gratuity so I was a bit antsy waiting on the bill. Our total was $48 with 15% gratuity. Now to me I thought it was a low gratuity but since they were attentive I was gonna to add onto it with an extra tip after I signed off the check. The server came to pick up my card and ask if I wanna round off to $50. I said sure. So they added an extra $2 for themselves. Overall without this 15% I would have tipped more. Not a big fan of them adding it for a table of two? I am going to assume they had to add this gratuity because people didn't leave tips? The restaurant was very busy all night so I guess this hasn't affected them at all. Will I return? Probably not, I have my go to Chinese/Spanish spot in Queens that I will stick to. We tried this Cuban Chinese restaurant after seeing a few TikToks and we were not disappointed. The restaurant has around 12-15 tables and service was quick yet not stellar by any stretch inside was clean but no over the top decorations but you're not going there for the ambience you're going there for the food We ordered a large Blue Hawaiian which came in a large plastic soup container. I inquired as to what was in it and was told "Rum and Blue". I can concur there was rum and blue in this drink. Certainly tasted the rum large was $24 which was plenty for 2. Now the food....we have had Cuban Chinese before and my wife was transported back to her childhood while eating the Special Bistec house special rice and maduros. She said it was orgasmic and I don't hear our food described like that ever so she was very satisfied with our meal. Haven't been here in a while but it didn't miss a beat. I went with 3 friends and I must say the portions are still huge and very tasteful. Amongst the three of us we got chicken with garlic sauce and beef lo mein and we didn't even finish it all it was so filling. Everything came out hot and fresh the garlic chicken could've used alil more spice but it was still good. The beef lo mein was really fresh with tender pieces of beef all throughout. The service here was very good as well waitress was very friendly and funny. Ambiance is casual. Definitely family size serving. Everything was BAD My son brought home Beef LoMein from New Apolo (Myrtle Ave) and it was so good I decided to get it again a week later. The Grand St location was close to work so I decided to go there and get the Beef Lomein, General Tso Chicken with Fried Rice and frozen drink cherry margarita. WHAT A WASTE OF $40 DOLLARS The Lomein had no flavor. The rice was so greasy that eating "nothing" would have been better than eating that and the General tso was so hard and crunchy barely any meat and all breading. I came here on Christmas Eve to have an early lunch with my son. The food itself was great, but our server needs to work on his manners. For those of you who may not know, a 15% tip is automatically included on your bill. Our server requested to know how much more of a tip he thought I should leave, suggesting $10 or $15 in addition to the tip they had already charged should be good. Yeah, okay. LOL. I couldn't decide what to eat, so decided on chino Latino. The food was just okay. Nothing special to be honest. I also ordered the pollo de chicaron (or fried chicken bites) with pork fried rice. The chicken breast were okay, a but dry and it didn't come with sauce so i had to dip it in the sweet and sour sauce from the fried wontons. The rice also has a red hue to it. Not really sure why. I also ordered a large iced tea which was bussing lol. All in all, the food was just okay. The restaurant was empty when i got there so i was seated pretty quickly. The service was also just okay. We were given menus when we sat down, asked if we wanted drinks (they have a full bar) and if we were ready to order. It was similar to ordering at a regular Chinese restaurant. The ambiance was also of a 90s Chinese restaurant that had seats. Would i come back, for a drink, sure. I've physically been to the other location in Bushwick before as well (but only ordered drinks from that location) This location here in Williamsburg I have both ordered for delivery and have been there physically as well. Just a note to those who don't know about this place it is Chinese and Spanish food sold here. I will say that their prices vary with online order. Could be for various reasons. I believe you can order from them via Uber. But you may save a couple of bucks ordering from them directly and of course maybe taking a walk there lol. Other than that, it was pretty painless over the phone. The person taking the order was very efficient. Lunch special is always pretty resonalble. I ordered: 1. Avocado salad w/lettuce & tomatoes (unfortunately had a piece of avocado skin in it HUGE pieces of yellow iceberg lettuce. Its almost as if thy covered it with the avocado and tomato so no one would notice. But hey! I did! ugh *shrugs* 2. Hot and sour soup (I have to say I did not like their soup at all. Very strong tasting and it could have bee savory but it wasn't. I wasn't crazy about it. Liked the mushrooms though. Just a note: if you do not like pork and or staying away from it, this soup is NOT for you. It has pieces of pork in it!) 3. Shrimp and broccoli in garlic sauce with chicken fried rice (this I will say I wasn't a fan of unfortunately. It was EXTREMELY salty, saucy, and oily. We had the shrimp lo mein, vegetable fried rice, and their onion shrimp.. all lacking in flavor. The fried rice wasn't burnt but had a burnt flavor to it, almost as if it was cooking with burnt oil. New Apolo is a Cubano-Chino restaurant in Brooklyn that's been a neighborhood staple for years. Service is quick because they turn around tables so fast. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken with Vegetable Fried Rice and it was nothing to write home about. The flavor was a little lacking for both the chicken and the fried rice but the portion sizes are HUGE so you will be leaving with a full stomach.
