This place came so highly recommended that we skipped our usual favorite and came to try it out. Sadly we were disappointed. Food was bland , burrito was cold in the middle. Nachos were pretty good. We probably should've known something was up when we pulled in at 12 o'clock on a Saturday and there was nobody else there.

Papa a la huancaina. Bland, too little aji, too thin, too few potatoes, overpriced. Bad all around. 1/5

They served us a weak attempt at a Peruvian staple for our first stop in. Papa a la huancaina had too little potato, the sauce was thinned out and lacked color, lacked flavor, with no aji heat whatsoever. Also no included hardboiled egg, no olive. My guess is they're simpling it down way too much for the American pallet. That or they're cutting corners doing it too cheaply. Either way it was pretty pathetic, and at nearly $9 also overpriced, especially for what you're given. They did stay open a few extra minutes so we could make it for takeout, so I added back a star. I'm not sure if all of their Peruvian dishes are being done as cheaply as this. But this was an easy one to get right, and they missed pretty badly. If you go maybe stick with their Mexican dishes.

We love this hidden gem in Norman for their excellent drink selection and Mexican dishes - it's close to everything but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the 24th Street businesses north of Robinson and the best place to stop before the hitting up the nearby bowling alley! Recommendations: beergarita, sangria swirl, fajita enchiladas, spicy salsa.

I LOVE mamaveca's! Hands down one of my favorite Norman restaurants. Great bar, handmade fluffy tortillas, and DELICIOUS food! Always great service and friendly people.

Food is amazing, and service is really nice! It's almost never busy, and the atmosphere is pretty chill.

The absolute best IMHO, chips and salsa. The beef fajitas is my favorite dish of all places in Norman.

The food is great. Service is good, but many hidden fees and charges ( charges fee if you buy alcoholic drinks). Management is pain in butt.

This is a small spot but add it to your list - Nevenka is worthy of generous (tax-free!) tips as she's taking care of everyone in this family-style restaurant. The food is as flavorful as it is colorful - Trio Marino allowed me to sample, and 2 of 3 knocked it out of the park. Peruvian arroz (like a Spanish paella or Asian stir-fry) with peas, red bell, tender calamari, clams, and mussels had bright flavors and a slow, warming heat. On the other side, generous portions of fresh white fish ceviche in a citrus coconut broth topped with toasted corn nuts and purple onion (texturally complex, flavors exciting for Midwest palates) was exceptional. A roadside attraction!

The staff is incredibly friendly, the place is cozy, and the food is delicious. Everything we tried tasted authentic and homemade. The papa rellena was huge. It came with rice, fries, cilantro crema and a cilantro mustard crema. Will be back!

Drinks we started with Inca Kola (lemonade) and Maracuya (Mango Juice). These were a great starter, not tarts but not overly sweet. As an appetizer we got Patacones con ceviche de camaron. These are fried plantains like chips, topped with shrimp and an amazing sauce that will make your mother water. It's served warm and best to be picked up and eaten. This will get you ready for your entree. For a fish entree we had Ceviche de pescado. This is a dish with fish and corn in lemon juice and hot peppers. It's served cold on a bed of lettuce with sweet potato slices. It's very easy on the eyes, flavorful, good mix between the fish and red onions. The sweet potatoes gave it a good contracting flavor. Best eaten with the hot peppers and lemon juice. Our final entree was Lomo Saltado. This is a beef dish served over beans and tomatoes with rice, red onions and cilantro sauce. I put a bed of rice down, covered with onion, then beans, then the beef (which had the most amazing tenderness) and topped with the cilantro sauce. The sauce pulls the whole meal together, and all the flavors works amazingly with each other. Finally we finished with Flan Lucuma. Picture traditional flan but instead of a caramel type topping it was covered in a Peruvian fruit juice that gave it some amazing flavor and not an overpowering sweet. We will definitely be back for more. The staff were so sweet and kind. Very helpful and helped us pick out some great choices. You won't be disappointed.

Got three things - their pastelitos maiz, which are like corn based empanadas filled with rice and beef. We LOVED it - so good with the little slaw and pickled onions they served it with. And great portions too! Also got parrillada la fonda - which was their meat sampler served with some slaw, beans, and fried green plantains. Pros - literally everyrhing. Meats were seasoned and grilled great, and we loved the sauce that it was served with. Seemed like some kind of hot sauce + sour cream? Whatever it was, it was DELICIOUS. We looooved it. I also got one order of the catrachas to try - the menu doesn't say what it was so we were totally gambling on what it was, but it's a fried corn tortilla, topped with beans, pickled onions, and some cheese. Tortilla was a little soggy by the time it got to us but I bet it'd be delicious in store. All in all, loved the food. We'll go back in person one day so we can see the ambience and comment a little on the service, but for now - the food will keep us coming back for sure!
