The class is an hour long with half tap and half acrobats. I'm guessing this is to be able keep these younger dancers attention! The kids seem great, any staff I have interacted with have been helpful and the little always looks forward to going to dance class! They just moved from the original location on Newport Ave a few blocks away to Grand Avenue, Pawtucket, RI - The new studio is a block back from the main road, has plenty of parking (on weekend mornings anyway!), is located on the 2nd floor, is very large and clean. They have a coat rack area for parents and a room with shelving and hooks for the students to place coats and bags. Keep walking ahead to get to the reception area that is also connected to a large waiting room full of chairs and ottomans for the parents / siblings. There is a changing room with a bathroom off of it, a second bathroom with changing table, a kitchen type area with picnic table type seating for the kids to have snacks / drinks in between classes. There are three studio spaces in there now.... I only got to see the one (classes were in session!)....but it was very nice. Large mirrors, ballet bars, very nicely done. I can not say too much about the actual dance lessons at this point - So, I will have to report back once we have been bringing her here a bit longer - so far so good and the little is always excited to go! This building has a few other tenants but with all the signage we had no problem finding the way to go....the check in process at the reception desk is quick and easy. The only negative about this space is the open tread stairs at the front entry. Not being used to "seeing through" stairs, the little got sketched out when we hit the landing and started going up to the second floor. Luckily with a few quick reassurances she kept going and it wasn't mentioned again until we encountered another little girl and her mom on the stairs on our way out - having the same issue! Not major by any means but something to note. All in all - this place looks like a great way to get started in dance!

We only took a few classes before deciding that this is not the environment I wanted myself or my child to spend time.

Their new studio feels even more intentional and dedicated to their programming -- it's versatile, welcoming, and truly designed for community, movement, and connection. From pole classes to hip hop, salsa, bachata, workshops, and social events, there's such a wide range of offerings that make the space feel alive and accessible to so many different people. What stands out most to me isn't just the variety of classes, but the people and the care behind the experience. The instructors do an amazing job catering to different skill levels in a way that feels encouraging rather than intimidating. I recently took my very first pole class there, and I knew that if I was ever going to try pole, it would be at In Your Skin. I went in with zero expectations and left completely exhilarated. I was honestly surprising myself with what I was able to accomplish in just one class -- it felt like I was defying gravity at times. A huge part of that experience was because of Nicole, who was absolutely phenomenal. She was attentive, hands-on, supportive, and incredibly skilled at spotting, explaining movements, and helping students feel safe and confident. I especially appreciated how she blended pole with dance, creating multiple ways to connect with the movement and practice. But beyond the instruction, the community in that room was unlike anything I've experienced before. I actively participate in dance communities and travel both domestically and internationally for dance spaces, and the sense of support I felt during that first pole class genuinely stood out. People were rooting for each other in real, tangible ways. There was encouragement, celebration, and care that felt authentic -- something that can honestly be rare in movement spaces. I'm truly grateful this was the beginning of my pole journey, and I'm excited to continue discovering what I'm capable of through this studio. Another thing that matters deeply to me is who I'm supporting with my money, and the owner, Sada, is a huge reason why this space feels so special. She doesn't just own the studio -- she actively participates, teaches, and thoughtfully cultivates the environment both in the foreground and behind the scenes. You can feel the intention and integrity in the way the studio operates. The pricing is also refreshingly accessible, which makes consistent movement and community participation possible in a way I haven't often experienced elsewhere. And perhaps the biggest testament I can give: I don't even live in the same state as In Your Skin Studio, yet I willingly travel just to be part of what they've built there. That alone says everything.

I discovered this studio through a yelp event, and now I'm on week 3 of classes in bachata! I'm…read morevery much so enjoying each lesson and hope to explore other genres of dance down the road. Thanks Yelp for introducing me to a wonderful spot to explore dance again!

If you are looking for a fun physical activity - head on over to Providence Swings!…read more I have taken both Lindy hop and swing dancing lessons here with my hubby, but singles are always allowed. Sign up is easy, and can be done through their website. When you go, wear comfortable clothes, and bring extra shoes so that you don't bring in mud and dirt onto the nice dancing floor. The best part - their bread and butter jams! They are dance parties every thursday night that are open to the public. If you take their Thursday night dance class, you get into the bread and butter jam for free :) Prov Swings also hosts special dance weekends where national dance instructors come in to teach all different levels of dance instruction. The weekend also usually has a fun public dance that Saturday night. The lessons are for people of all ages - and I've seen teenagers through people in their 70's! One of the gems in our state - for sure!

If anyone had told me a few years ago that I'd be writing a review for a place that gave dance…read morelessons, I would have asked what they were drinking. Providence Swing will get you up and dancing, no matter your background, experience or, in my case, complete ineptitude. My wife and I wanted to take dance lessons after we became empty-nesters. We were looking for something fun that we could do together. My wife vetoed skeet shooting because there was no physical exercise involved. And so we started looking for dance lessons. We had never done any kind of dancing before -- ever. The scene in Hitch where Will Smith tries to teach Kevin James how to dance was written just for me. We took a few lessons at various places, all of which tried to sell you the next, more expensive lesson. We were about to quit and choose another hobby to pursue when we found Providence Swings. Providence Swings is a truly unique organization. It is not a company trying to sell you dance lessons. It is an amazing community of people who have a passion for swing dancing and want to share that passion with others. Providence Swings has a warm, inviting atmosphere. People really want to help you learn how to dance. And there are people of all ages there, young and old, college kids, newlyweds, empty-nesters and retirees. Lessons are relatively inexpensive and really only a part of what Providence Swings has to offer. Instead of continually asking if you'd like a more expensive lesson, you'll get questions about whether or not you're going to the next social dance. Providence Swings hosts a dance every Thursday night, free for anyone signed up for lessons that month. Everyone is welcome and it is a great time to practice, hang out with friends and have some fun. When you first show up, you may be in awe and somewhat intimidated by how good some of the dancers are. Don't be. They are all friendly and eager to teach you. They are welcoming and, my wife and I can personally attest, very, very patient and excellent teachers. Best of all, if you stick with it, soon you'll be dancing like a pro and you will have made many friends along the way. Where once I stood on the sidelines or -- when absolutely forced to -- did my version of the "washing machine" or "lawnmower", my wife and I now search out places to dance and actually get compliments on our dancing. We can now Swing, Lindy Hop, Charleston and Balboa. (Who knew there were dances where you actually move your feet?) We are still learning, but that is part of the fun. We love Providence Swing and can't recommend it enough.
