Do not order to go! Do not order Door Dash. You will not get you correct order and You will never get the money back. If you order to go, and pick up your items,,, check your items throughly. We ordered two salads, one with chicken one with ham and salami and turkey, and absolutely NO MEAT was included on either salad. We did it through door dash and we were only offered a discount. We were traveling back to Richmond from Tennessee on Sunday evening and decided we wanted Italian for dinner and this place looked promising. I ordered cheese ravioli and received what looked like a bowl of tomato soup. It was lukewarm at best and there was so much sauce I had to hunt to find my ravioli. My friend had the chicken saltimbocca which had almost as much mushroom on the plate as pasta which did not make for a very balanced plate. The only person who enjoyed their meal ordered spaghetti with meat sauce she said it had excellent flavor. To add to the negative experience we were sat at a booth next to the wall and on said wall were small black flying insects that kept flying around our food. One ultimately ended up drowning himself in my bowl of sauce. On the plus size the serving staff was attentive and the bread was tasty. Yum! We are in town for a horse show, and stopped in on a whim. We were pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed by delicious smells wafting from the kitchen. We waited a few minutes before being sat on the patio. We ordered the oysters Rockefeller to start off. They were very good. My wife created a pizza and I had a summer salad that featured breaded shrimp, berries, and feta cheese. Stopped in on a Friday evening on my way home after seeing a review. We were thrilled by the great food and some of the best service I've come across. It was a very busy day and service was great we had a chicken parmigiana and cheese ravioli the ravioli was delicious it had good dough creamy ricotta and was topped with tomato sauce and chicken parm was very good. Had a order of mozzarella sticks be late the waitress was apologetic and treated us to dessert.for dessert we had homemade toasted coconut gelato and a cannoli the gelato was smooth and flavorful and the cannoli was delicious the shell was the perfect combination of crunchy and thin and the filling was heavenly. My husband and I have been to Mamma Maria's twice in the past few weeks and love the food here! The first time we had pizza and it was delicious. On our second visit, we started with their tasty garlic knots and house salads (salad or soup included with meal). My husband's entree was Chicken Parmesan with linguini and mine was Sausage Napoletana (sausage coins with basil) and spaghetti--both were outstanding. We also got a large pizza to take home. We have several very good Italian restaurants closer to us in Christiansburg/Blacksburg, but Mamma's is special. They have an extensive menu and even a large homemade gelato selection. The prices are reasonable and our server on both occasions, Jordan, was excellent. We will gladly make the 25-mile trip to Salem frequently to enjoy the delicious food at Mamma Maria's! read more

The sauce is a bit sweet for my taste and has no body. I had eggplant parm and it was swimming in the sauce. Too much for me. The pasta was also soft I prefer a bit al dente. My companions had Veal Piccata which looked good. And then there was ravioli. They gave a good portion on that. The place was packed. The service excellent. Usually, Italian restaurants are great for vegetarians. Unfortunately, I have to report a not-so-great experience as a vegetarian at Mama Maria's. I went with my omnivore mom, who'd been here before and loved it. The interior was nondescript--neither eye-catching nor awful. We were told we could order the buffet or order off the menu. I asked the waitress about vegetarian items on the buffet, and she seemed thrown off by that. There was only one veg pasta dish and also a cheese pizza. So I looked at the menu and felt a little grouchy that there was no "vegetarian" section. There was a short section of "Classics" which included some veg entrees, but I feel better ordering from a section (or even a little icon beside the item) to indicate that it's veg. I ordered the baked ziti (tomato sauce, parmesan cheese, ricotta, I think mozzarella) thinking I couldn't go wrong. Sadly, it's very possible to mess up baked ziti. My portion was huge, which would have been great had the food been good. A lot of the ziti had been overbaked and was dry. There wasn't enough sauce or cheese, so it wasn't at all creamy or gooey or even flavorful. Basically, it was just dried out tasteless ziti. My mom had the buffet and enjoyed her meal a lot. Our waitress was very attentive. The gelato looked good but I didn't try it. As you can see, most of my complaints involve them not being good at accommodating vegetarians, so maybe you'll fare better if you don't fall into that demographic. read more

A group of us decided to meet up at Mama Maria's after a long work day. I heard positive reviews of their lunch buffet. We were greeted and seated in a booth right away by a very nice hostess. The booth seats were worn out and all of us sank deep into springs. Not a big deal but noticeable. Our salad came out and was obviously from a bag...no thought to presentation. Certainly edible but not noteworthy. I had the chicken parmigiana and the chicken looked fine but it was sitting in a very liquidity red sauce. The chicken was okay but soggy from swimming in the "sauce." Taste was salvageable but texture was less than satisfactory. Another guest had the ravioli. Again, the pasta was okay but looked like it was in tomato soup. The last order was a pizza margarita. Too much olive oil made it runny. Serviceable taste if you closed your eyes. We were so hungry and only ate what was edible. The good conversation and friends being together made it tolerable. For a $60 bill it is not worth the money. read more
