The park was renovated at a cost of $4.36 million as part of the City Wide Parks Master Plan and it reopened on March 1, 2015. South City Beach Park has beach access, restrooms, outdoor showers, open air pavilion, two bocce courts, a fenced in playground, sand volleyball court, and a beachfront concession stand. If you chose to come here do not let your parking time run out! I have been here twice and they are very aggressive about writing tickets. Both times I saw multiple tickets written. Online it says the minimum parking ticket is $39. I even saw one car with the barnacle which covers the windshield and makes it impossible to see to drive the car until you pay the fine to unlock it. You can pay for parking on your phone by app. In addition to being quick to write a ticket, another thing I didn't care for is they change the parking price whenever they want. If you come early or late you can get a discounted price of $2 and hour which is half off the normal $4 an hour rate but another time I came on the Sunday after Fourth of July and a holiday rate of $10 was in effect. If you are going to stay all day it is fine but at least for me it discourages dropping in for an hour or two. Make sure you keep an eye on the time so you can have your best beach day here.

There is also a food option here, good for snacks or a whole meal. The beach is a short walk (like 50 feet) and the sand was nice. They also have a beach volleyball court here, which was pretty active. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star review is that you must use an app to pay for parking. Being an out of town guest, I did not want to have to download and app, create an account, etc. Also, what about people who don't have smartphones? That said, there were plenty of spots as the parking lot is a decent size.

Centuries later this area was home to Miccosukee leader Chitto Tustenuggee known as the snake warrior. He was designated chief during the Second Seminole war whose beginning was tied to the Cooley massacre in Ft. Lauderdale. For more on that see my review of Colee Hammock Park. Two Seminole settlements once sat on two islands in the marsh and were occupied for a dozen years before the Seminoles were attacked and fled the area. In 1947 the land became the Perry farm. Community interest in the land as an archaeological and historic site caused it to be purchased in 1992 by the State of Florida through the Emergency Archaeological Property Acquisition Fund. On January 21, 2004 Snake warrior Island opened as a natural area. As you walk around the area it is easy to see the beauty that attracted the native people to the area. The lake and eight created wetlands are surrounded by live oak, gumbo limbo, strangler fig, cypress, red maple, wild coffee, beautyberry, fire bush, pickerel weed, eel grass, and rushes. Wildlife in the area include wading birds and ducks, red wing blackbirds, wood storks, little blue and tricolored herons, anhinga, white ibis, and and osprey. On my visit I saw many iguanas and other kinds of lizards. Amenities include benches, signs, and picnic tables. A half mile paved walkway loops through the preserve and takes you back to the parking lot.

This natural area is home to a large number of birds and it also attracts a few migrant species at different times during the year. Great place for birding or just to have a walk or run.

This is not the case at all! In the front of the park, there are 3 pavilions, a playground and splash pad. One of my parties was in this area. And it was great. You can enjoy the party while watching your kids play on the playground or the splash pad as everything is in close proximity. There is one pavilion that is a little further away but not too far away. The second party was in the nature center that is technically connected to the office. There is a closed in area and back patio. The back patio is where the second party was as it was a picnic theme. In addition to that the park offers a walking trail and someone mentioned that there is an area to see animals. I am not sure of the extent to that.

Another Saturday, another run in a new park!…read more Well, new to me. My friend and I have a pact to run every Saturday this month while exploring parks around Broward and this first Saturday of September we ventured to Miramar Pineland Park. I was not looking forward to this run since the first photos I saw were a trail with no shade but luckily, 3/4 of the trail were covered by shady trees! This park has the standar $1.50 per person entrance fee for weekends and holidays. Once you enter, the first part has a few pavilions for parties and a big playground with a splash pad (currently not in service.) If you keep driving, it leads you to the new Nature Center (I think) that isn't open yet and the beginning of one of their trails. This is the one we chose to take. It was very hot at 10am but we welcome the covered trail. Along the trail, there's a pathway that leads to a gazebo which overlooks nothing at the moment. If you run around the trail twice, it covers one mile. The nature center looks really nice and looks like it could be used for a wedding party or larger gatherings. The only thing is parking seems limited so I'm interested to see if they add any later. Driving out of the park, we noticed that there is also a "Wetland Trail" so you bet this is going to be one of our future runs. Hopefully we remember to bring sunblock as it looks like this one doesn't have any shade.

Passing the massive kiddie jungle gym, sand volley ball court, basketball court with several bbq grills and covered pavilions. Continued to the rear of the park and found ample parking spaces near the bathroom facilities that included a bicycle repair. We took a walk to the wide lake with posted warnings not to feed or harass the crocodiles which was odd - who is actually doing the harassing or feeding? Near the lake was a war veterans memorial enclave with an honor head stone for correspondent Ernie Pyle. The area included a wooden bench to sit, relax and take in the scenic park views. PARK #86

This is a small but very nice neighborhood park located on the Snake Creek Canal Path, a paved…read more6.5-mile exercise trail connecting North Miami Beach and Miami Gardens. Along the trail are shopping centers, restaurants, schools, and parks like this one. The path runs parallel to the Snake Creek Canal which is used to prevent area flooding but is also popular for fishing, kayaking, and jet skiing. The Barry Schreiber Promenade Park is named in honor of lawyer and former Miami commissioner Barry Schreinber who served from 1976 through 1990. The park has a few spaces but it is mainly used by people who live in the neighborhood who walk over. Park amenities include a fenced in playground for safety which is especially important since the park is on a canal, exercise equipment, pavilion with picnic table, and a bike fix it station. My favorite part of this park was all the birds. There were ibis everywhere, even in the trees along with ducks and moorhens swimming in the canal. The Snake Creek Canal attracts an abundance of native Florida birds and water fowl. This park is a great neighborhood resource for play, fitness, picnics, and bird watching.

I was here about an hour and enjoyed seeing the boats and a HUGE ship going past, that actually blocked my sunning time! See my pictures and videos to get an idea. I also found it fascinating to see some trinkets, at the waters edge which was indicative for me for the Cuban culture here in Miami as offerings to God etc. Ducks, a few people dotted around, nice trees, a real gem of a place. You should come and check it out if you have not. Oh! and you can also launch boats from here.

Town Center Park is a 3 acre park located on the west side of Collins Avenue…read more The land the park sits on was once a shopping mall. After it was demolished the property was donated to the city by the developer and turned into this tranquil park. The park is completely fenced in which is a great safety feature. Inside is a playground, fitness trail with exercise equipment, meditation garden for adults only open daily from 9 AM-6 PM, public art, restroom, and gazebo. Much of this park is state-protected wetland area. The only negative of this park is that the parking lot is very small in relation to the popularity of the park. One other thing is you have to watch out for kids on scooters. Parents allow their kids to ride them at break neck speeds on the exercise path and several times I found myself having to jump out of the way. This area is mainly high rise condos on the beach so a green space like Town Center Park is essential for having a place to take the kids to play outside and for exercise.

This is a very nice paved exercise trail named in honor of businessman and developer Don Soffer (b…read more 1932). Soffer was given the primary responsibility to develop an upscale community around the Turnberry Country Club. Originally named Turnberry he renamed the project Aventura, the Spanish word for adventure. The exercise trail is 10 feet wide, paved, and ADA accessible. It is 3.1 miles long and goes around the Turnberry Isle Resort Golf Course along Country Club Drive. Along the path is landscaping, shade trees, lights, benches, and water fountains. This easy to traverse trail is a popular pace for the community to safely walk, run, jog, rollerblade and bike. It takes most people an hour or less to complete. Pets are allowed as long as leashed six feet or less. On one side of the trail is the road so it is not as scenic as the trails through natural areas that I prefer. Still it is nice to know the exact distance you are going, it is a loop, and the trail is conveniently open 24 hours a day.
