I placed the order online, scheduled pick up, and moved on with my life. Unfortunately, I received an email about 5 days before I was due to pick up the arrangement essentially advising that my selection was no longer available because the flowers wouldn't be in season the month of December. Huh? They explained that they would do their best but I asked for a refund instead. Apparently there was a website issue that allowed the purchase to go through but shouldn't have. Disappointed and frustrated, I placed a last minute birthday order with a large corporation and tried to put the matter behind me. Well color me surprised when the Flowers & Fancies team sent me an arrangement to apologize for the error. I was shocked, surprised, and necessarily reminded that mistakes happen and it's best to have patience and understanding, especially for local, well meaning businesses. The arrangement provided is gorgeous and makes the one I ordered from a large corporation just doesn't compare. Thank you to Heather and the Flowers & Fancies team for making it right. Not…read moreonly did I get a phone call that the flowers were not delivered, I was told it was because no one was available to receive them. This was not true, my nephew was home all day. The flowers arrived today and are okay, but are not very close to what I ordered. The flowers are all pinkish/fuchsia colored. I ordered red with a few white, a CHRISTMAS arrangement! I understand substitutions are necessary at times but I would have expected red flowers to be in stock this time of year.

Thomas Tree Farm is a good choice for finding an affordable choose-and-cut Christmas tree. As of…read morethe yesterday (the day after Thanksgiving), the tallest trees there were only about 6 feet, but you get the pick of the entire farm. Basically, they hand you a saw and cart, and they might guide you to where you might find a specific type of tree (we passed Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Blue Spruce, and White Pine). All trees, regardless of size or type, are $40, including tax. Traveling to the tree farm was a good adventure, but we probably won't go again, mainly because I think we'll be able to find at least the same quality trees closer to DC. If you're close, though, it's a good place to get a tree.

We have been going up to Thomas Tree Farm for over 25 years and have…read more never found a "bad looking tree" .It is too bad that the back lot has never been replanted...there were lots of BIG ones back there....(over 10 feet). We drive up from Parkville, and it takes us longer to get there( about 45 mins.) than it does to hike to the White Pine area . They always let you glean /clean up the left behind branches from trees not cut to ground level. And, the tree is cut up for mulch/flower bed cover until April, when it is put thru our chipper....and the lower trunk is saved to be burned on the next Christmas Eve... Looking forward to our ride up and the picking out of a GREAT tree....

We worked together to set item level budgets and design choices (e.g. flowers, printing, etc.). However, each proposal we received was over budget. Communication also became a problem. When she overlooked scheduling problem between the venders and our requirements, she became defensive about her faults. Also, she promised she would only manage one marriage a weekend, but on our weekend she had two weddings. I wish the relationship would have worked better and I hope she learns from our concerns.

We hired…read moreDiana to help with wedding day coordination, but in fact she ended up helping with planning, crisis management, and general advice in the months leading up to the wedding. Given that vendors often try to double as event planners (especially caterers, venues, and DJs), Diana had the difficult job of coordinating the coordinators. She did so with aplomb: building positive relationships with the other vendors, soliciting input on the master schedule, maintaining flexibility, and helping cultivate a sense of joy on the big day. She could easily charge double or triple for her services. Diana helped with the following decisions and more: creating a floor plan, hiring transportation for the wedding day (we used three vendors: a hotel shuttle, an all-purpose van, and a limo), hiring and negotiating a better rate for drapes, brainstorming ideas, communicating with other vendors, buying small items that we forgot (tea candles, a car decorating kit, and a guest book), lending us some common wedding items (a ring pillow, candle holders, and a "bird cage" for gifts), delivering ribbons for the wedding cake, and creating a master schedule. We also appreciated that Diana was fine with the unusual gender roles in our planning process, as the groom handled most of the planning. We found that some vendors were quite sexist in this respect, but Diana was fine with communicating with both of us. In short, we can't emphasize enough how thankful we are for Diana's help.
