Nachos - very big for a starter!
    Andrew Y.

Review based on 2nd visit - after a pretty good 1st visit. This time went for baby back ribs - which is what I normally go for a Red's True BBQ - so I could compare. It was Ok. Fairly meaty but hoped it would be more juicy. For starter I went for nachos with a brisket topping. The portion size was very big - was eating for a few minutes and looked like untouched! The brisket topping was a bit dry. So overall ok. It was also a shame they didn't have the 50% Monday offer - assume being December/Christmas. Next time may go for a burger - I think it's 50% off burgers on Thursdays

It's hard not to feel like one has overindulged a little when ordering here as the portions are quite big, especially when ordering a starter before the main, but I couldn't resist a bowl of Wood Fried Nachos with guacamole, cheese and cream. Very tasty, but also very plentiful! After battling through the nachos, I was almost regretting ordering my main, which was the Southern Fried Chicken Burger. Primarily because I've developed a fondness for buttermilk chicken, and the burger did not disappoint, but with it also coming with fries, I struggled to finish it all - so my tip, stick to one dish! I've had better buttermilk fried chicken, but it was OK. Manchester Smokehouse has a nice decor, which follows that rustic wood and brass style, which seems awfully common at the moment. As it was the Christmas period, it had a good ambiance. However, for such a period, Manchester Smokehouse was relatively quiet.

Looking down through the windows on Lloyd st it looked empty - not a good sign on go opening day ! But actually there is a area you can't see where there were a few people ! The service is quick and attentive and most importantly friendly First thing I saw was Tank beer ! Brilliant !!! With a allergy specific eater I was a good test of staff to see if they could deal with a multiple of allergies whereby they can't eat half the menu. The odd hiccup but dealt with. Very very well and again still with a smile The atmosphere inside is very nice and had a great USA smokehouse feel with large wooden tables and wooden walls. A big benefit is that it's very well lit not so bright your dazzled but well enough to see each other but a nice tone. The tables are of a nice size and big enough for all your side plates of deliciousness As I'm finishing this review I'm slipping into a beautifully induced meat sleep ! Wow that was spectacular . I was expecting good thing being prime location and seeing the hard work in the kitchen . But my goodness that was awesome . See the picture for what we shared and it was amazing. I've not had brisket in the uk that good for a long long long time ! Will definitely be looking at coming back soon and it may knock a local competitor down a notch!

I think it's fair to say that Manchester Smokehouse & Cellar have some pretty big *ahem* opening up near Red's True BBQ; I'm not particular saying that one is better than the other, but as two of the only 'named' BBQ joints in town, I'm sure it makes for an interesting neighbourhood watch... A group of us visited to say a fond farewell to Matt F. after his hard work as our last Manchester CM, and what better way to do that than with plenty of meat and carbs? It's the Yelp way! I really like the interior here. It's super spacious and could easily hold party tables where you could eat family style and recreate the true feeling of shared BBQ. A good shout for anyone working in a carnivorous office and struggling to find somewhere for the Christmas party, perhaps. The menu is vast but broken down into easy to digest (excuse the slight pun) parts. Although The Big Smoke is obviously their main event, without the 50% off it felt like too much of a push for this occasion, and most of us went for a combination of starter and main instead. My corn and jalapeno fritters were good, with plenty of heat that had me reaching for the water glass a couple of times, but some of my bites were just pure batter - perhaps another stir of the mixture would have evened up the ingredients somewhat. However, the areas that were packed with corn and jalapeno worked well, especially when paired with the salsa and sauce on the side. I was expecting the Korean chicken burger to be more along the lines of that at Common, with a sriracha based sauce, whereas this was darker and veering more towards traditional BBQ; to be expected, in hindsight. It was a hearty burger which certainly filled me up but nothing really stood out. Washed down with a tank beer, it was certainly an A-OK meal, and I'm in no way writing Manchester Smokehouse & Cellar off just yet. I just need to find someone to take down The Big Smoke with me now!

This beauty have the wow cheese factor, look at that cheesy stringyness!! This is what I expect from a mac 'n' cheese.

Taking advantage of the 50% monday. We ordered 1 drink, 3 starters and 2 mains with 2 sides that costed under £24.00 for two people with a take home doggy bag at the end! The ribs were meaty and meat fell off the bones. The chicken wings were delicious but wish they provide abit more sauce. The corn and jalapeño fritters were good but not very spicy plus it has a texture of wanna be onion bhaji. The fries tasted stale (I can only assume it might need a change of oil?) and onion rings were nice and crispy but really oily, I could only stomach 2 before leaving the rest. The best dish for me was the Mac'n'Cheese. The flavour of the cheese is just perfect with right amount of saltiness, yet, I felt they should also add in mustard to make it perfect. Service was ok but definitely value for money without 50% deal but obviously I wouldn't say no to a discount!

Since I had never had one prepared that way, I thought I'd give it a try. I enjoyed the experience. The perfect size rib eye steak was brought out with beautiful grill marks, sizzling on a hot stone for me to finish the cooking to my preferred state of doneness (medium rare of course). I sprinkle on a little salt & pepper, flipped it over twice until it had a nice sear & was ready to go. The flavor of the meat was great, it was a perfect medium rare. The experience was worth it. If I had a choice though, I'd have preferred an option for a side other than 'chips' - mashed or baked would have been preferred. I give the Hudson Smokehouse a hearty thumbs up.

I absolutely love the decor in this place it's very rustic. They have live music every Saturday night, there service was excellent all staff are extremely friendly and helpful - thank-you to the lady who looked after us last night, unfortunately I do not know your name. I had the "bourbon" burger last night and my partner had the "Bull & boar" we halved them so we could try both....both really nice (coleslaw and chunky chips delish too) they have a decent choice on the menu from chicken, pulled pork, burgers, ribs, and steaks, it's defiantly a mans meaty American style dream. Its a perfect place if you just fancy a lunch/tea with your family or friends that's not pricey and a drink or two after with some live music, without dressing up "to the nines" the cocktails sounded really nice but we didn't have any as we were driving, a sparkling water was as exciting as it got ha! And the milkshakes looked ace but the portions of our main were so generous we couldn't stomach anything else.

Nestled in the Cheshire countryside just south of Manchester Airport. The Ward family have been using traditional smoking methods to preserve and enhance the delicious flavour of local produce for over a century. You all know I'm a sucker for family run business and this is one such great example. (Current owner Darren Ward is the great, great grandson of JOhn William ward who established the business in 1907) Stepping inside the Cheshire smokehouse, a warm homely feel thou shall be immersed into. A soothing affair enhanced by the fresh foodie aromas of inhouse cooking. Driving through Wilmslow I have often paid a cheeky visit or two just to pick up the infamous Smoked Cashew nuts.. But there's certainly a lot more to this place then that. (There's a shop, there's a Patisserie, a wineshop and a Cafe... short and sweet) The Smokehouse shop caters for all your basic retail needs safe in the knowledge that the products are fresh and locally sourced (No horses were hurt in the making of that statement) ranging from fresh fruits, vegetables, rice and pasta. The in-house Patisserie carries a varied list of delicious artisan breads and cakes and for those looking for some strong dinner table vimtoe, the Smokehouse wine shop carries a healthy selection of over 400 carefully chosen wines and spirits. If all the excitement of so much good food gets too much for you, why not pop upstairs to the smokehouse cafe for a spot of breakfast/lunch/tea depending on your mood/time of day. You'd be pleasantly surprised by the nature of what's on offer at this modest little beauty. A quick recommendation? Try the gourmet sandwiches!!! They might be a tad expensive at around a tenner a pop, but boy was the steak gourmet sandwich I tried worth it! Glancing at the menu if that doesn't tickle your fancy there's a selection of yummy platters served with a warm basket of crustastic bread at around the same price-range and for the not so peckish belly owners may I recommend a lighter load of warm duck salad which is served with roast garlic jam (Yes you heard right) For the die hard food romantics out there the creme de la creme has to be the Ballon D'or of the North West food world, The Cheshire Smokehouse hamper!! The "Hickory" hamper on the other hand will set you back a few pennies more at £150 but it doeseth cometh with a few drops of juice amongst other treats I tell thee. Namely.... (takes a deep breath) Une bottle of Gusbourne Estate English Sparkling Wine / Brut Reserve Bottle of Niepoort Tawny Dee Port / "Burnt Sugar" Fudge / Choc Affair Fair Trade Chocolate Ba / Chocca Mocca Hot Chocolate Tin / Hickory Smoked Almonds & Cashews (200g) / Fine Cheese Company Parmesan Crackers / "My Cup of Tea" Breakfast Tea / Vallecoppa Pesto / Tracklements Salsa / Guidetti Pasta / Peters Yard Mini Crispbreads / Tracklements Onion Marmalade / Nudo Olive Oil / Thursday Cottage Jam or Curd ....AND.... a Large Lidded Basket!! Thats plenty of decent and indulging oomphh for your buck! To get to the Smokehouse it helps if you have une voiture as it is kinda...no wait... It -IS- in the middle of nowhere... however I'm sure you clever folk can work your way around that right? (Give that internal combustion engine endowed friend a nudge and come along) Please note that the cafe is closed Monday/Sunday, so if you fancy planting yourself there to sample a gourmet sandwich avoid these two UNsmokeHOuseLY days. Cheshire smokehouse is frequented mainly by the not so financially challenged local folk and Foodies from all over the Northwest of England. However the delights of such a magnificent place are there for all to enjoy, so tootle along and try something new. Perhaps even Yelp about something I haven't tried.
