I need to remember to re-read my own reviews before I go shopping. I returned to Mancini's Sleepworld because they had "Avocado" brand mattresses in stock and I wanted to see the vegan version of their mattress. When I entered the store, it was empty except for two sales associates. The male sales associate immediately greeted me as "Young Lady" -- I responded that I would prefer he not address me in that manner. Instead of asking me my name, telling me his name, or even (heaven forfend!) apologizing (ie, "my bad!" or "sorry") -- he escalated and started going on about how he was older than me and saw me as a "young lady" and disclosed his age (only 7 years older than I am). I told him my name and asked him for his name. I told him that I was there to check out the Avocado mattress, specifically the VEGAN mattress, and was interested in a plush, pillow top mattress. I could see the Avocado mattresses on display in the rear of the store and started walking toward them to examine them. He rushed over to forbid me from touching a mattress until I had covered it with a flimsy piece of tissue (obviously "for my protection" or to prevent bedbugs, fleas and lice from falling off my body and contaminating his show room). He called me "young lady" a couple more times and I asked him again - "Please don't do that." He kept up a non-stop patter about how "We're going to take care of you! We're going to spoil you!" and repeatedly told me that most customers don't know what kind of mattress they should have and they are usually incorrect about what they think they want. He waved me over to an area at the front of the store against the plate glass windows where he was typing in information into a touch screen panel next to a pair of twin beds side by side. He explained that there was a "highly scientific" system that would "spoil" me and inform me exactly what I needed. As he tapped in information - asking me my name once again - he got a screen asking "1 or 2 sleepers" - turned, gave me a once over and didn't even ask me the question and tapped "1 sleeper." *ahem* What? Curious to find out about this "scientific system" - I obliged and took my position on my back on one of the twin beds where I could see a large tv panel on the ceiling above. Airbags inflated up and down the mattress below me and when the sales associate returned, he said: "Oh, I see - when you wake up you have neck and back pain." "No, I do not," I told him. "Yes, you do, and I can tell because of your 'hot spots' on this highly scientific system that knows more about you than you do, silly female" (ok paraphrasing here but at this point...) I said "Now can we try out the Avocado mattresses?" He begged me to "humor" him and called me "young lady" again. *sigh* He escorted me to another side of the store - demonstrated the "zero gravity" frame on a mattress. He kept exhorting me to "relax" and just "enjoy" and said that I had to spend at least 15-20 minutes on the mattress before I could make a decision about whether it would be the right one (or not). He also told me that athletes, PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES, who are "bigger than you" -- buy this particular bed and find it very comfortable. Really? Body shaming as a sales tactic? Then he starts telling me how the mattress is extra luxurious because the cover is made of "silk and merino" -- so I said "That's not the mattress for me - that's not vegan." He asks me to stay put - don't get up - and says that the mattress usually sells for $7500, but he could let it go for $5400. I told him - not only is this outside my budget (which he never asked about) but it's also not vegan (which I mentioned at least twice). I tell him I'd like to keep it under $2000. So, he starts noodling on about how, if he had to help his sister find a mattress, how thoughtful and caring he is as a brother and so on and so forth ... but to a wave of the arm "we have some mattresses in the $700-900 range over there, you can go check them out." I say "I want to check out the Avocado mattresses" and he sort of shrugs and grunts and walks away to go "check something." And just like that -- the romance was over. He did offer me a cold drink before I left -- that was a lot of work for a can of LaCroix. I won't be going back to Mancinis Sleepworld. read more

We aren't new to the buying a bed rodeo but I have to say this purchase was probably the easiest we've ever had. Raquel was so helpful and patient while we tried out the suggested beds. We never felt rushed or pushed toward the more expensive ones. Hubby kept going back and forth laying on different beds, which could have been slightly annoying. Finally we picked the perfect one. We also bought a box springs, which I guess are now called platforms. the one we had was seriously old. Raquel talked us through the two size options and we picked the taller one. This, however we quickly realized was a mistake, it was just too tall. But it was super easy to get it swapped out post delivery and a second delivery was made The delivery, I have to mention that. We're in one of those old Victorians that has been turned into a duplex, we're on the top floor. The stairway isn't very wide and it has a turn in it. This can be a problem for delivery guys and one reason our box springs was so old. We were afraid the bed wouldn't make it around the bend. But, to our surprise and delight, they guys had no problems getting both the too tall box springs and the right size box springs up the stairs. read more

[Covid Review] My hubby and I decided to get an early Christmas gift for ourselves. On Black Friday, we went to the store and John greeting us. He asked what we're looking and we let him know what we want. John introduced us a few options for mattresses, adjustable base, and headboard. He gave us sometime to sleep on those mattresses, but of course no worry that the store has prepared the packet of disposable sheets to apply on the top of bed. Overall, we decided what we want and John gave us a great deal. We're happy with what we ordered and now just waiting for the stocks to arrive our home. Another point to mention is that, if you're active on Yelp, remember do check in because they have free pillows with certain minimum purchase amount. I consistently have friendly service here and I think they have a good variety of options available. I worked with Ryan and Racquel who made me feel like we were all old time friends . I explained my situation to Ryan about my dog peeing on my old mattress and so he threw in a free mattress cover since I was a repeat customer. I was even offered fresh barbecue sliders (hot off the grill) but I politely declined because I'm vegetarian Another cool thing about this experience was that I checked in via Yelp and showed them and I got two free pillows with my order. The store had a variety of name brand mattresses, Purple, Casper, Nectar, you name it they have it in stock. The sales manager explained the us the different types of mattresses and the best ones for our needs. We eventually went with Nectar for the comfort, cooling tech and soft mattress overall. It had all of our needs to a nice deep rest. We tried several mattresses that day, and they welcome you to try it. I liked that Mancini's had 365 days return policy, if u don't like it you can return it anytime within that window. As well as mattress prices matches with the brand prices online. After purchasing the mattress, there's $10 mattress recycle fee in which when Mancini delivers the new mattress, you can recycle your old mattress. I would like to suggest a name change to Knucklehead City. My wife and I came here last night looking to buy a new bed for a guest room. We were greeted by an annoying young woman who believes jargon and making up alternative facts as a standard means of business. I stated that we were just looking. Her reply: "Have a nice day", wow. I wanted to compare two mattresses, one that we purchased two years ago with another model. This should have been a quick and easy with sale following. I asked the male employee a question to which the female responded. I politely asked her if the question was addressed to her, she said no. Male employee then tried to upsell with a motorized unit for substantially more. Even after I said no, the pitch kept coming. Management should take this review and consider if being in business in this location with these employees is good idea. We left and went to a competitor for purchase. You can verify by looking at your competitions review on this same date. It was interesting to see another family in your store at your competitors store making a purchase as well. Maybe the business model that you should consider is being the sales agent and referral source for other stores that are not Mancini. read more

Pandemic Review My wife and I came here over the Black Friday weekend as we were really looking for a new bed since ours was getting pretty old and I was starting to wake up with lower back pain. Parking for this place is really plentiful as the plaza is huge and there's a ton of other stores nearby. When we first entered, we were greeted by John the store manager and he quickly asked us what we were looking to buy. Johns service was exemplary! He didn't rush us or pressure us into buying anything, he made some recommendations and gave us some great input after we provided him with our feedback as well as some of the issues that we wanted to resolve by buying a new bed. I definitely recommend John for the buying process from beginning to end. He also provides great after service if there is anything missing or if there's mistakes on the order. When we ordered our bed, we had to wait a month as they didn't have everything in stock at that time. My recommendation for people is to definitely opt for the vip delivery service as they're more flexible on the timeframe and John can help arrange that for you! John, his staff, as well as the delivery crew observed pandemic guidelines and left us with a great experience from beginning to end! read more

Racquel was the best! (And so was Josh, who also helped.) Racquel was patient with me as I went back and forth between two beds to see which firmness level was right. She worked in my budget and found me the best mattress for me, even making suggestions to help me sleep better. Although I thought I was only looking to replace my mattress, she showed me how a bed platform that raised would alleviate my lower back pain. Some people would think this is just an upsell, but after thinking about it, I do wake up with my knees bent up to alleviate the lower back pain. I told the sales associate, a petite female, that I needed a full size mattress. Upon asking my budget, within the first 3 minutes, she literally rolled her eyes at me and directed me to an overpriced mattress by the door. I had this terrible salesperson. I heard an ad announcement for Mancini's after watching a Warriors post game analysis and came to the Alameda branch to purchase a mattress. The day prior to going, I spoke on the phone with Richard and had a great conversation regarding mattresses and said to ask for him tomorrow when I get there and he'll be able to find a mattress for me. I went the following day and no one was at the counter. After awhile, an older, heavy Caucasian man came to the counter and asked if he could me. I asked for Richard and he said he was sick and didn't come in. I informed him Richard said you have many brands to choose from and I needed to buy a mattress. Then he just started to talk about the company, the store policies and constantly talking or boasting about his 30+ years of knowledge and experience in the bedding industry. There were times I had to talk over him just to ask a question. And throughout the 5-10 mins of our interaction, he asked me 3 times how much I wanted to spend on a mattress, so he'll know where to look in finding a mattress for me. I told him price is not an object for a good quality mattress. Then he just continued talking about himself, his knowledge, company's policies and other abstract subjects etc. while I was just standing at the counter wasting time hearing him talk without getting a word in, instead of spending quality time on helping me find a mattress. I just ended up helping myself and looking at the showroom of mattresses on my own. There were lots of mattresses, which was overwhelming and confusing in determining what to look for. I just took some pictures of the ones I like and brought it to the Berkeley location for assistance. On a side note, while I was looking around on my own, I noticed there was another female salesperson that was very cordial and attentive when a customer walked into the store. She greeted him professionally and inquired what he was looking for. Asked if he was a back or side sleeper, etc. and brought him to a machine that measures his body I guess to help in finding a right mattress for him? It would have been nice to be greeted in that manner. My experience buying a mattress at this location was totally aggravating. I would not ever shop there again. I went there looking for a mattress made from natural materials, as I am allergic to most chemicals and needed a mattress that wouldn't make me sick. The salesperson, who turned out to be the manager showed me a line of mattresses that would work for me. They were expensive, but all natural fiber mattresses are expensive. It was more then I could afford and I talked to him about buying the floor model. We made a deal that worked for me, based on his telling me the floor model was under the same warranty as a new mattress. I paid for the mattress and made a date for delivery. When I asked for the warranty in writing, he said he would need to look for it and would send it to me. He couldn't find it ( not a good sign ) but sent an email copy which I could hardly read. I managed to get through most of it and it said very clearly that floor models were not under warranty. I was really upset as I really wanted this mattress and couldn't afford the price of a new one. Long story short, I talked to my brother who offered to pay some towards a new mattress. I went back the next day and spoke with Daniel ( the store manager ) again.He said he didn't realize that this company didn't warrantee their floor models, some companies do ( he is the manager, so he either doesn't know his job, or he was lying ). We made a new deal and kept the delivery date. I was supposed to get a phone call 1/2 hour before they arrived, within a 4 hour window. So I planned my day around the delivery time. I was out doing errands and get a call that they are at my house. It was an hour before the delivery time was supposed to even start. I live on a. small dead end street and a large truck was going to cause a problem for my neighbors if it was there for long. So I left what I was dong and went home. They delivered the mattress and when I asked for the warranty they told me they didn't have one, I could find it online. I was not happy about that, but let it go. Then the told me they couldn't take the platform I had with my bed ( I had also bought a new frame ) as they didn't take wooden platforms. Daniel specifically told me it would be fine. So now I had to call Daniel and they delivery guy called the factory. After some back and forth hassle they took the frame. I was hoping all was settled, except this very heavy mattress kept sliding off the frame at the bottom. Then I get a call that they are delivering a part that should have come with the frame! I now have yet another 4 hour deiivery time to wait for them, even though it was there mistake. turned out there was a part for the frame that kept the mattress from sliding down off the frame. About 4 weeks in I decided I was not comfortable on this mattress. I went to a different mattress store and bought something different. I called Mancinni's and told Daniel I wanted to return the mattress. It was then that he told me there was a 5% restocking charge ( which is a lot on an expensive mattress ) plus $99. I had the mattress from Mancinni's picked up and the other mattress delivered ( this new place doesn't charge a restocking fee ). Two weeks later I had not received my money back from Mancinni's. I called and Daniel was not there. The person who answered said that Daneil would take care of it. A few days later still nothing. I called again. This time the woman who answered told me that they don't keep credit card information and Daniel should have called me to ask for it! She took my information and processed the refund right there and then. I know this is a very long review, but it was a very long ordeal. If you are looking for a mattress, avoid this place!! read more

Our mattress was due for replacement and covered under our warranty due to the severe dip in the mattress after a few years. My husband and I decided to upgrade to a Tempur-Pedic Mattress once the assessment was complete and approved. John was incredibly informative and listened to our needs and offered various thoughts and suggestions on what we were looking for. Went in on a whim on a Monday and ended up taking delivery the very next day. I had an idea of what I wanted and luckily for me the person I spoke to was John the store manager. After about 20 min or so, John set me up with the mattress I wanted and I was ready to go for delivery the very next day. Delivery had its moments but for the most part it went swimmingly. After buying a critic's choice mattress-in-a-box from the internet, I started waking up in the middle of the night with numb toes and aching shoulders. So, we double-masked and headed to Mancini's. This was when Sleep Train was transitioning to Mattress Firm and after the sales associate helped me find the mattress I wanted, he informed me that he was quitting because of the transition, wrote down the information on the mattress I wanted, and told me to go to The Sleep Train at Southshore because they'll have the mattress I want at a lower price point. The manager at the time David helped me out, and I was surprised when the price listed included the price of the mattress as well as the box spring and frame. This price for everything was already hundreds of dollars less than the list price at Sleep Train for the mattress alone. About a few months ago I had sagging in the mattress and wanted to use my warranty. I read online that the whole process of mattress warranty was a nightmare, but I called the store first to get some guidance. John was the new manager and he hooked me up. The store took care of the whole warranty process, all I had to do was schedule a time to be at the house so the guy from Sealy could be there. They did all the paperwork. Sealy ended up replacing the box spring and mattress and John had a new mattress delivered within the week. TL;DR I got excellent service from two different managers both when I bought the mattress and a year later when I needed to use my warranty. Came by to see if Mancini folks can help me out in choosing a mattress . John (the store manager) was extremely helpful, professional and courteous. He listened to us (me and my wife), guided us and helped us narrow down our search to a few mattresses. At any point in time, I didn't feel that he was pushing us to buy a specific mattress and that's what I liked about him. We ended up buying a mattress from John.
