When I found out that Mandarin was opening down the road from where I live I could not contain my excitement! I've been going to Mandarin in the GTA since I was a little girl. I came with my mom for lunch and the place was very busy! But we were seated right away. Mandarin is huge! With beautiful decor and design. The hostess and waitress were both sweet as pie! Our waitress was quick and attentive, and our hostess even popped in halfway through our meal to check on us! I thought that was very nice. THE FOOD. This is an Asian buffet but there is a little bit of everything for everyone including roast beef, pizza and even a quesadilla bar! The food highlights for me are the torpedo shrimp, the sushi which is very fresh and the lemon chicken! I really enjoyed my visit at this new location! There is a great atmosphere and the service was very good. The food was pretty typical for a Chinese buffet, but there was an abundance of desserts. The soup was very good as well! The staff were very nice..almost TOO nice? I felt like they were always lingering around my table and I was constantly saying "thank you", to the point I was almost uncomfortable? Otherwise, the staff were very efficient and fast at collecting the dirty plates. The manager came and introduced himself to our table. He was a very nice man! I will definitely be returning! When I walked in my first thought was as to how beautiful this place is. The food is good, the atmosphere is great. I love how the rooms the eating areas are sectioned off it makes the place feel less crowded. Oh and if its your birthday they sing and bring you a cake and even take your picture! Was not disappointed for a second, the entrance has a fish pond and the waitress gave me cotton candy. If you drink then you can sit down at the bar and have a drink too. Yep I must say that I try to go there on a weekly basis. Food is always good and the selection is just awesome. The sushi is always fresh and weekends have crab legs which everyone loves. Kids love the desert area of course and you can pretty much find something for everyone. Loads of shrimps, salad bar, soup kitchen, sushi bar as well as hot food such as BBQ ribs, steamed vegetables, rice, curry chicken and the list goes on and on. Weekends are more pricey due to added selection. A table for 2 adults and two kids will run you close to 100$ but everyone will be happy and full tats for sure. Best of all no MSG. Good variety of food. The down point the chairs were placed too tight. We came with a group so it was hard to move from the table to pick up food. Another thing is since our visit to mandarin my baby started a diarrhea which lasts for 3 days already after eating a fruit salad from there. I had some bloating too the first day but now I am fine. Went last night, didn't know we should have made a reservation, our fault. We got there at 5:15, and were seated about 6:30. Positive: -Our waitress was very attentive, our drinks were never empty, and the empty plates were cleared in good time. -There was a very wide selection to choose from Negative - My best description of the whole experience, clusterf*ck -the disorganization in the waiting area, (where there were children running wild, playing with the revolving door, making it impossible for customers to come in and out) -I found the staff very rude and pushy, cutting in front of customers to get to their destinations -The majority of the food was very bland, and unsatisfactory -the egg rolls and spring rolls were awful - all of the desserts I tried were stale - the price was ridiculous, $77 for 2 people, before tip? - I love kids, but a buffet is not the place for unsupervised kids to be running around, especially when there are hundreds of hungry people walking around with plates of food in front of them. Highly recommend booking reservations when dinning here, even if it's just for two people. The weekends and Friday nights are the most busy. The hostess are always super welcoming and friendly!! I highly recommend the cotton candy either pink or blue. The servers and bus workers are excellent with taking away plates or refilling water glasses. The food on the other hand isn't my personal taste but it is very accommodating for large families or friends. Great place to have a birthday or celebration! Also if you bring a party of at least 3 adult you can eat free on your birthday! Note you must sign up previously to your visit online. Very easy and your meal is free. Bring a piece of ID too. We went to Mandarin for lunch on a Thursday, and the restaurant was packed. There was a great selection of food, but unfortunately, with varying degrees of quality. The choice and quality of sushi was excellent for a buffet, and the grilled items were hot and delicious. The typical Chinese and Canadian buffet fare available were acceptable, and the wide variety of desserts, including cakes and fruits, capped off the meal nicely. There were special dishes being served for Chinese New Year that I was looking forward to trying, but they were cold and tasted bad. We had previously visited Mandarin when they were celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the special dishes were also well below expectations. In general, the food was good, especially for the price. The decor was beautiful and the service was exceptional. I've been to the Mandarin chain my times in the GTA and always had a pleasant experience. We decided to check out the new Hunt Club location on Thursday for dinner. It was a last minute decision so no reservation was made and when we arrived we were welcome and the hostess said it would be a 45 minutes wait. The longest 27 mins of gone by just watching people fill their plates since the waiting area is feet away from the buffet before we were seated. I make the rest short Waiter inexperienced... Tired to be a salesman by referring premium drinks to me after I've already ordered a Ginger Ale. I'm not sure if this kid was working his first shift ever, but he failed. We went for a second round and returned to find our plates have not been cleared. A young lady noticed the plates and removed them for us.. Btw now I'm done my class of water and still my Ginger Ale has not arrived. When our waiter finally showed up reminded him about the drinks and he said oh sorry, sorry, sorry... And ran off to get them by then I was ready for dessert. To top things off I received the wrong change back from a 100$ bill and had to wait an extra 10mins till the Waiter and cashier figured it out. I found the food to be a lil over cooked and not as may variety as other locations. I will return on to give this new location a second chance maybe on the weekend sometime in the future read more

As far as buffets go in Ottawa this one is quite good. My experience may have been tainted due to the fact that I visited the Orleans mandarin location first. I was disappointed with the food at the hunt club location. The variety, the quality, it was just not up to par. The food is the biggest part in going to a buffet and this location in comparison to the Orleans location is no contest (Orleans is WAY better). I worked in the restaurant industry for ten years and you can tell when the kitchen has no passion and they are just putting out food that's edible and that's what I saw here. If you just want to eat go to this location, if you want to enjoy good food make the trip to the Orleans location it's worth the drive. read more

They have a really good selection of items on their buffet, and we found everything to be hot and fresh! We especially enjoyed the sushi rolls, lemon chicken, Thai mango salad, and chicken curry. We have to say the service here was fantastic. Our server, Jeff, was most pleasant and helpful. This place is great, great service, great food, and a great selection. It is very busy so if you are planning for more than just a typical dinner out you may want to reserve. Despite being busy they are always replenishing food and servers are always around to take drink orders. The dessert selection is easily the best of any buffet I have been to and the Chinese food is much better than most options in Ottawa. The price knocks this down from 5 stars to me, it is quite a bit more expensive than other buffets, 30 dollars is definitely not a great deal for the quality of food offered. Food quality - Average, could be better compared to other buffets in the province. It wasn't bad though. Ie. The salmon was dry. The prime rib was dry, but the beef ribs were tender. I especially give this place a thumbs up for NOT using tenderizers on everything. Some people are allergic to renderers and alike chemicals, and too many places uses it nowadays. It's toxic. I praise a buffet place for not using it on majority of it's food items. Food option - average, could be better again compared to other buffets in the province. Again, it's not bad though. A lot of desserts to choose from. And not bad of a selection in the sushi and sashimi area. Service - Service was excellent. Excellent attitude and service overall from the waiters and waitress. They were all happy to greet everyone with a smile Their tone of voice were genuine and friendly. Plates were changed frequently and at the right time. They come to proactively offer you crab clipping tools when they see you eating crab legs.They change new and clean utensils when they notice you are onto desserts, wow! If you ask for anything such as extra napkins or a sharper knife, they do it in the most willing and understanding manner. Oh, I noticed they come around to take photos, bring you cake and sing happy birthday if there are birthdays around. To sum it up, quality service! Environment - Very clean. Sometimes the stacked up plates in the self serve area may still be wet and some may be dirty at some buffets I've been to. At this Manadrin location, it was all dry and clean.
