Finally found them open and ordered: Fried Mozzarella Grandma Pie Caesar salad The fried mozzarella is clearly handmade, big props! Just lacked a bit of salt it needed to make them great. Caesar was lemon forward and good, but the quality of lettuce lacked a little. The grandma pie crust is just what I wanted and you can split it between two types of pies (love this) but again was thinking the sauce/crust needed that touch of salt. Moving to Charlotte from up north has been a bit disappointing in the pizza scene. There are a few great places around the greater Charlotte area but they are few and far between. We were up in Davidson for the day and kept hearing about Mandolino's so we decided to stop in for a quick bite. They have a good selection and the staff is very very kind. We had a good experience there but it definitely is more of a take-out spot than a sit-down environment. Overall, the pizza was good but nothing to write home about. We enjoyed our meal but probably won't go back again because it just didn't stand out. Making a pitstop through town while visiting Charlotte, Davidson ended up being a great moment for us while in the Lake Norman area. Greeted with the nicest host, served the freshest watermelon feta with honey vinegarette and caprese salad for lunch. It was the perfect meal for the great weather we had the weekend we were there during Labor Day weekend. What was great about that weekend was not having to deal with crowds anywhere. I'm sure everyone went to the coast but even with the UNC and SC game in town, we didn't have any hiccups going anywhere. It was all a joy. We'd been meaning to try Mandolino's for some time, and finally had a chance one Sunday evening. I'm a bit of a pizza snob, and while NY style is my preference, Mandolino's really stands out for their fresh ingredients and thick and crispy crust. We actually loved our pizza so much that we returned within a week, and ordered the SAME pizza. I like the fact that you can get half and half pizzas. My husband got the Bonamassa on his half--with prosciutto, thinly sliced red onions, and whole milk mozzarella. I got artichokes and arugula on my half. I'm not a big fan of saucy pizzas, but you can tell their sauce is made from crushed fresh tomatoes. And because of that, it's absolutely delicious. The pizza has just the right amount of cheese, and it's baked into their insanely crispy crust. (I can't get over how much I like their thicker crust!) And their toppings are wonderful. Their pizzas are large and rectangular, and you get five slices per half. That's usually enough for a few slices to take home. While their prices are higher than say, Alino's, i think their pizzas are very reasonably priced for what you get. Service has been very friendly as well. Since their pizzas are thicker than the norm, you can expect to wait between 15-25 minutes for your pie. But be patient, because their pizzas are worth the wait! We'll definitely be back! read more

Having now eaten here a few times, it is definitely a different style of pizza than you can get anywhere in the area. Large rectangular pizza could feed four people. They have gluten-free crust and vegan cheese. I have not tried it but have heard it is good. It is a larger pizza also, so it could be enough for three people. I recently had a meeting for lunch and enjoyed their $10 lunch special of a very large slice and salad with a beverage. It was a lot of food and very good. I have had the Pigs on the Wings and another one I can't recall at the moment. Both were very good. They have wine and beer downstairs and more seating and full bar upstairs. The entire town seems to go home around 11pm (really 9pm - seriously, just drive through the town after 9pm...sign), so Mandalino's followed suit with their closing schedule. We've been right before 11pm and it was just us...sigh! GET OUT PEOPLE! Enjoy the pizza and check out their personal brunch pizzas on Sunday & other specials throughout the week. Found this establishment after leaving an appointment on a weekday. We walked past it going to another restaurant, and I saw guests eating pizza through the window. Luckily the other place was closed, so we headed back here. The interior is small and cozy, and smells heavenly. The metal chairs aren't very comfortable, but you won't even be thinking about that once you take a bite of their food. We ordered drinks (Black Widow BlackBerry Cider on draft and Reptar -canned-) as well as a sweet tea. Decided to order the Luau Pizza, Kids Cheese Pizza and Garlic Knots. The garlic knots are the best ones I've ever had. They are piping hot, and the flavor is unrivaled. The kids pizza was a big hit with the 2.5 year old. The Luau Pizza is one of the best combinations of flavors I've ever had. It has pancetta, pineapple, house made honey sriracha, jalapeños and PLENTY of cheese. The crust is delicious as well. The only negative thing I have to say is that they did run out of all of their wine list, which was disappointing. Service was good and welcoming. I can't wait to go back and try more of their food! I had dinner here tonight and I've been here multiple times before however this experience was not like previous ones. We ordered our pizza and after placing our order, I see the table next to me recieved a kids size pineapple bacon ham pizza. I asked our waitress if I could order a kids create your own pizza with only THREE (2 cheeses and honey drizzle) toppings from one of their specialty pizzas. I did not ask for the speciality pizza in a kids size, just a kids make your own with 2 extra cheeses and a honey drizzle, I said I would pay extra. She came back to me and said they only do that for lunch and it's too complicated to do kids pizzas for dinner. No problem. Until I proceeded to see 3 create your own kids pizzas with MANY toppings (that were way more than just the 2 cheeses I wanted) be served over the next hour I was sitting there. And as I was walking out one of the employees also got a kids size pizza. I have no problem with there being not a kids size create your own pizza option for dinner, but being told they couldn't do it because they didn't feel like it in that moment and then see all those people get it after is extremely annoying. And it is NOT the servers fault, she was incredible and so kind and only doing what the kitchen told her, absolutely no blame to her, all the kitchen. If I had asked 2 minutes earlier would they have felt like it then and I would have been able to eat pizza then? Be consistent and if you offer it to some, offer it to all. So I'm honestly hesitant to come back after this because it was so weird that they only serve some menu item based off of the chefs vibes are right in that moment, what kitchen runs like that? She told us that as soon as she got the kitchen going she would take our order. True to her word she had our drinks brought out to us and had our pizza out to us in about 15 minutes. The pizza was delicious as we had heard others tell us. The sitting area in the back was ideal on a nice October day with clear skies and low humidity. Great experience.
