Garlic bread (got it to go)
    Daisy S.

We did takeout, so I can't speak to the inside! Honestly, pretty good! Ordered garlic bread (just to see), pastrami sub, and a small Detroit style pizza. The order took a little while, but it gave me a chance to swing by the the downtown bookstore so... not mad at it! The food was ready when we pulled up so that was solid. The garlic bread is a little salty, but I did eat probably more than a normal person should... so if you eat a normal amount you might not notice that. The sub was still extremely hot when we got home so massive kudos on the packaging for that. My husband liked his sandwich and didn't add any more commentary... he ate it all so I imagine that's a nice compliment. The Detroit style pizza is good. The sauce is quite sweet, but I don't mind that so it worked out for me. It's four slides, but as expected is pretty thick. So on top of the garlic bread I didn't eat all of the pizza in one sitting. Saving some for later!

Just a heads up - this pizza spot is in a gas station! We were unaware when we placed the order so we were a bit shocked when we pulled up. The pizza was very good though! Great flavors and interesting pizzas. They also told us it would be a 45 minute wait but they were done in 15 minutes. I would still recommend this spot, but just want to give a heads up. I do think they might be getting a new location at some point, but I am not sure the details.

soon to be a pizza joint near me...

Pizza, pizza, pizza, pizza, pizza... gonna get me some pizza. I've had take-out from the gas station a few times but the last time I ate here was during the plandemic and here was about a mile up the road across the hall from the license plate agency downtown before the markdale got renovated. anyway, tonight we pulled up on a little retro pizza joint that used to be my drycleaners and it looks like there's not nearly enough parking until you actually get to the parking and it goes off to the right for about 50 spaces which begs the question of what was here before the fresh asphalt and motion sensing LED lighting..? ¿nature? so tonight we're sitting outside in the warm, dry evening air enjoying a medium sized pie with pepperonis, sausages, onions, and green pepper and fountain beverages. a larger pizza would be more cost effective but lately pizza for breakfast leaves me sluggish all day :-( pizza comes out soon enough and we make our way around the platter as the daylight fades to twilight then to dusk and we're still sitting and smiling and holding hands...

Pie in the sky is excellent. Pizza was spot on and wings were amazing. Extra crispy just the way we ordered. We will be back soon.

You won't find that anywhere in North Carolina, and Davino's isn't trying to be that. What it is? The best pizza in the Lake Norman area. This perfect little hole-in-the-wall has great specials and consistently solid pizza. The crust hits that ideal balance of crisp and chew, the toppings are generous, and the flavor never disappoints. I can (unfortch) house half an 18-inch pizza myself. But what truly sets Davino's apart is their generosity and community spirit. Right at the front counter, they post a simple message: if you're hungry and don't have money, a meal has already been paid for you. Prepaid tickets hang there - some for two slices and a soda, others even for a full build-your-own 18" pizza. It's a beautiful, tangible act of kindness that can make a real difference for families in need. Makes my heart happy. Great pizza. Great people. A place that genuinely cares about its community. Wouldn't mind if they upgraded their fries to the crinkle cut kind they show on their website and not the long John silver kind, but I'll make do with the 'za. I'm proud to keep supporting Davino's.

Their grilled Caesar salad is large enough to share, with deliciously charred romaine and homemade dressing. We also love sharing the arancini when we are not in the mood for a salad. For entrees, you can't go wrong with their pizza. It's one of our top favorites in the CLT area, as it's cooked in a wood-fired oven, and is both crispy and full of toppings. My husband particularly enjoys the Capricciosa, with artichokes, ham, mushroom, basil, and fresh mozzarella. Their calzones are really good, too. I usually get their lasagna, which is served in a bowl and is made to order. Their bolognese has a complex flavor, and the sauce-to-cheese quotient is just perfect. I always have some leftover to take home. If you have room for dessert, I highly recommend the deconstructed cannoli. It's homemade, and divine. Their gelato is well thought-out, served with a side of espresso to soften the ice cream and add a unique flavor. Presentation is carefully and well-thought out. Service is always good as well, no matter what time of day you visit (we prefer early dinners). We love this place, and will keep it on our "short list" for nearby dining!

The…read moreshopping center offers free parking, but I walked over there from the hotel where I was staying. I was warmly greeted when I entered the restaurant. I was seated facing the kitchen in a booth. I just loved the decor with the bricks, open kitchen, and warehouse ceiling. The wood, beams and bricks were reclaimed materials from Manhattan, adds old world charm. The Easter decorations were a nice touch. My amazing waitress created me a mocktail with ginger beer and cranberry. It was colorful and wonderful. It had some tang to it. The Italian restaurant has Neopolitan pizzas and Italian dishes. It was so hard deciding what to select from the menu. If I hadn't just had shrimp, the shrimp scampi would have been what I ordered. Then there was a lasagna with a bechamel sauce I really wanted. But the pizza won out. My waitress talked me into the salad I was debating, too. The salad was Dolce Crostata. It has mixed lettuce, goat cheese, pancetta, candied pecans and golden raisins. I like the salads with fruit, and this one was wonderful. Novanta means 90 in Italian, which is the 90 seconds it takes to cook the pizza. It goes into the 900-degree Italian wood-fired oven. The pizza was a true Neapolitan with the soft, airy crust and a little bit of char on it. It tasted as good as it looked. I wanted a second pizza after my first slice, but I had trouble finishing the first and had to take half of the salad to go. I did love every bite of the margherita pizza and salad. If I lived closer, I'd eat here weekly as the food is that good. This is a hidden gem.

We waited a couple of minutes before I asked the guy sweeping up if they were open. He replied "Yeah. She is somewhere. Probably next door". Finally, a woman shows up outside smoking, and the sweeper goes outside and tells her we are in there and I heard her say, "they can wait until I am done with my cigarette". She finally comes in and takes our order with a shitty attitude. No flights so I got 2 beers a Belgian Triple and a Banshee IPA and a Mahala Pizza (Hawaiian with BBQ sauce base). The beers were really good, and the pizza was decent nothing I would get again. Shitty attitudes can really mess up a dining experience. Get better employees and offer flights and the whole experience would have been good. Funny story. Several people came in after we showed up and one guy asked for a Coors Light. She gave him whatever their lightest beer was. He was not a fan, so he asked me what I was drinking and I told him the Banshee IPA. He asked if I liked it and I said yes. So he ordered one. He proceeds to say "F$#% You buddy! That tasted like I licked a pine comb's ass!" So at least I made a friend.
