So much flavor!!! I expected this food to be bland or tasteless due to how much their website emphasizes how healthy their food is, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that this food was some of the most flavorful we've ever had. Both times we went, we showed up soon after they opened when there were very few other customers present, so we received exceptional service both times, and the atmosphere was fantastic. However, it's the quality and flavor of the food that makes us the most eager to return. Here are my thoughts on the foods we've tried so far: Whipped feta 10/10 (or can I give it 11/10?) - We got this both times we went and plan to continue to get it every time we return. The naan that comes with it is unbelievably delicious on its own, but then it's combined with whipped feta that would probably seem overpowering, except that all the overpowering flavor is so delicious, it makes you feel like you got smashed under a 10-ton block of pure delight. This might be my new favorite food of all time. Spicy hummus with lamb shank 10/10 - This was also full of flavor and kick. Even though I like the whipped feta better, I'm still giving it 10 points out of 10 because I would have been shocked by how good it was had it not been for first trying the whipped feta. Broccolini 10/10 - It looks like a vegetable, and it is a vegetable, but it sure didn't taste like a vegetable! This was also packed with delicious flavor. I thought it tasted more like some expensive shrimp dinner than broccolini. It's rare to find healthy food that tastes this good! Wagyu dumpling 9/10 - These are excellent, but I'm giving it only 9 points because they didn't exceed my expectations as well as the other dishes above. Heirloom & feta salad 7/10 - It's definitely better than your average salad, but it didn't leave nearly as much of an impression on us as the other dishes above. Smashburger 3/10 - This was the only thing we weren't impressed by, maybe because we aren't huge fans of the flavor of grass-fed beef or kimchi. I still gave it 3 points because it was cooked/prepared very nicely, but I would personally enjoy a regular, cheap burger over this one. read more

The vibes are excellent! This is a great rooftop restaurant and the food is amazing. They have a great sushi selection. The drink menu is extensive and they have many great selections. Our only issue was that we ordered martinis and unfortunately they mixed up vodka and gin twice so we had to send our drinks back and have them remade. I attended a day party at Mandrake and was blown away by the décor. It's a gorgeous, airy venue with stunning views of downtown Columbus, definitely IG worthy. Even with several reserved sections, we were able to find seating on the balcony. We were told there wouldn't be a dedicated server for our area, but that any server could take our order. With the crowd, it took a while to flag someone down. A special brunch menu was provided for the party, and everything looked great. I ordered the smashburger with pommes. While the food came out quickly, my dish wasn't hot. The pommes were cold and bland (I couldn't even taste salt), and the burger itself was dry. The aioli lacked flavor, and the bacon was wilted. I ended up asking for mayo, ketchup, or mustard to help with the taste. My friend ordered the brunch hash with tater tots, pork belly, a fried egg, and sauce, which she really enjoyed. I sampled it, and everything was hot and flavorful, definitely a better dish. I'm not sure if this open service structure is typical during large special events, but I'd suggest assigning 3-4 servers per section. That would make service more efficient for guests and prevent servers from being stretched in too many directions. The menu did note a 20% gratuity and 2.9% credit card service fee, and our main server was good about reminding guests of the automatic gratuity when cashing out, which I appreciated. I also checked out Mandrake's regular menu and would love to come back for a normal visit. I think both the food and service would be better outside of such a busy, specialty event. read more

It's elegant, energetic, and definitely made for a dressed-up night out! Service was top-tier with white glove attention. All the servers were dressed in matching sparkly black fitted rompers - a stylish touch that added to the vibe. Everyone was super friendly and our server was amazing - attentive, fast, and always nearby without hovering. Drinks came out in under five minutes which was impressive considering how busy it was. That said, the drinks were very pricey - my two-drink order came to $75 which felt steep. I'm not sure if an auto-gratuity was included but it caught me off guard! The experience here at the Mandrake is rather exceptional from the moment you step off the elevator and into the created setting. It is clearly set as a fine dining establishment. The entire restaurant overlooks the horizon line and city line of North High St in both directions. My visit this evening was for dinner with my nephew who is a student at OSU but I have been here only for drinks after the 10 pm mark prior when it is open moreso as a refined club atmosphere. Tonight though, we entered for dinner and the vibe was atmospheric in a very relaxed way with great background music going on. You can easily converse and enjoy the guests at your table without any high volume speaking. Tables have a nice distance between them for privacy and they are very comfortable. There is not a bad view anywhere in the restaurant with all seats relatively aimed at viewing the expansive view of the rooftop horizon....sunsets are spectacular if you time it well. We were greeted immediately and introduced to the menu and its content in full detail. Our server was KYA and she was truly exceptional in personality and her knowledge of the menu and its items. Her recommendations were spot on and well received. She gave us plenty of time to make decisions and timed the items to come out incredibly well so that the table was constantly well maintained. Our glasses were kept full the entire time and the plates were cleared immediately as they were emptied of their food. That element is a pet peeve of mine and I LOVE a team that makes such a beautiful effort to get things right. This team absolutely does. Once the food started coming out, it was obvious that they take a great pride in presentation. The menu is mainly set up as a small plate option which is a lot of my preference so there is a lot of variety on the table. No disappointments here. You have plenty of options as we chose several sushi rolls, a hummus trio, some waygu temptations (a dumpling version that was sensational and a carpaccio version that was plentiful and thoroughly delicious), and a couple vegetables (INCREDIBLE broccolini). The food did not in any way disappoint!! I cannot leave this review without mentioning the holiday season beginning as the restaurant was fully embracing Christmas and the holiday season. It is very festively decored and perfectly welcoming. I will very much look forward to my next visit here next time in town. Ick. Wow, I can't believe I'm giving a 2 to a beautiful restaurant with great interior decorating. Ambience person and artists: you are better than this restaurant. The menu was not right. Mixing Mediterranean and sushi seems to come from the mind of someone who doesn't know what they are doing and is too arrogant to realize it. The kebob was good. The sushi was not up-to-par with the amazing sushi choices already available in central Ohio. This place needs to drop the "sushi" appropriation altogether from their menu. Much, much creepier than the food is the vibe from the patrons. I don't know how I want to, or if I want to explain the details of the reasoning I have for that comment, so I'll just leave it at that. Mandrake Rooftop is located up top Moxy hotel on the 10th floor. Beautiful views of Columbus. First let me say I have mixed reviews of Mandrake and wanted to love it. It was my first time up here along with my group of girlfriends. We booked a table in advance and came dressed to impress unlike some others around us. A dress code was posted on the website so we were shocked people even got in wearing some of the things we saw. The service felt rushed and bothered. The food was expensive and underwhelming. The drinks didn't even taste like there was a full pour of alcohol in them. I will say that the whipped feta was a must and I enjoyed the filet. I will not be back and would definitely not recommend coming more than once just to experience it. I will leave it to other people to make their own judgements themselves but you won't catch me here again. read more

If you are Black or a POC DO NOT dine here. This place gives the impression of racism! My two friends and I (all Black women) came in to dine after an event at the Moxy hotel. We did not have a reservation and the restaurant was not full. We told the hostess we had three people wanting to dine. She told us to give her a minute. After about 10 minutes they told us there were no tables available. And suggested we try to dine at Townhall. Understandable due to people possibly having reservations right? After checking THEIR WEBSITE, Mandrake Rooftop had reservations available for the time we came in and in 15-30 minute increments for the remainder of the night. It is clear they did not want three black women in cocktail/evening attire dining there. I have heard from other Black people that this place was possibly discriminatory. Came here for my birthday and had such a great time! The rooftop is beautiful chic but still cozy, with that perfect indoor/outdoor blend. Definitely an upscale vibe but not stuffy. We started with appetizers (calamari, pomme frites with blueberry catsup + garlic aioli, and a wagyu sushi roll) and they were all amazing. The calamari was fried perfectly, super crunchy and fresh, and the sushi was flavorful and delicious. Even the blueberry catsup was a fun twist on fries. For mains we tried the lamb & beef kebabs and chicken thigh, both with turmeric rice and greens. They were fine, but not as exciting as the starters. The kebabs were more of a sausage roll style (not chunks of meat like I expected), and the chicken came sliced more like a breast. The rice was also a little soft. Drinks were good (though my husband didn't love his), and the service was honestly wonderful, our waitress was super sweet and all the staff were quick and attentive. One thing to note: later reservations have a time limit, which at first I found odd, but it makes sense because after dinner the place shifts into more of a nightlife vibe, fancier than a bar, more vibey than a lounge. I was invited to mandrake by a close friend of mine celebrating his wife's birthday. It was about 12 people sitting. The food was OK for me. My wife says her lamb chops was a little greasy, but that's not the issue. Despite being a little loud as we couldn't even talk to each other without yelling, the service was terrible. I know this place considered itself to be an upscale restaurant and I would agree, but the Service was horrible. My wife and I both ordered lamb chops. Her food came out and it took 10 to 15 minutes before my lamb chops came out. I don't know about anybody else but I love to eat together with my wife. That's pretty much how it's supposed to be when you visit a restaurant you order food. Your food comes out you eat with the person that you with but this night that did not happen. To my understanding the waitress was to receive a $200 tip regardless of the crappy service that we all complained about. This has nothing to do with the bill itself because we did eat so we should pay, but I don't feel comfortable with having to. Give the outrageous amount of tip that was required for us to give being that the service was crappy. I calmly tried to explain to the waitress that I don't feel like you deserve the tip that was required for us to pay, and she kept trying to make it about the bill. I had to remind her a few times that it was not about the bill. It was about the money that we all had to pay for a tip that was required for pay. The bottom line is i personally did not enjoy myself at this restaurant today, but I still had to pay the full tip for the waitress who did a crappy job. I know, waitress and waiters get tips but to my understanding, they get the tips according to the service they provide. I honestly don't feel like the waitress deserve the tip that restaurant required us to pay. If you are a good waitress or waiter to the people paying then you will get a good tip, but if you are not your tip should show from the service you provided, but not from this restaurant they want you to pay the full gratuity tip to the waitress or waiter no matter how bad or crappy the service was. I would never return to this restaurant not because of the food not because of the price. It's because of the less than mediocre service we receive. So this is my recommendations for Mandrake, you can stand 10 toes down on your principles. That's not a problem, but please and I repeat please make sure you waiters and waitresses are upholding the same principles that you stand on when they serve people who come and spend their money. And to make matters worse, they turned away a female from our party because of their dress code. She went home and changed. But to our surprised they were letting other people with dirty tennis shoes, jeans and hooded sweatshirt in which was told to us it was against their dress code. read more

They have a wide range of drinks, including seasonal ones like their Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice, which was a slightly sweet and very smooth drink, as well as signature mocktails like their Pretty in Pink, which was very refreshing. I was sad they were out of graham crackers for the graham cracker crust on their Pumpkin spice cocktail but they adjusted and still were able to do a sugar rim. Their menu was extensive with everything from sushi to steak. They had a good mix of American items as well as Asian and Middle Eastern fusion dishes. The pomme frites were really good- fried were crispy, zaatar spice added a great flavor and the blueberry catsup was sweet but surprisingly tasty and paired well with the garlic aioli. The tuna with crispy rice was flavorful and the pieces of jalapeño helped to cut down on the heaviness. The steak was super tender- cooked perfectly and paired with potatoes and fried onions. I liked how the creamy sauce came on the bottom so it wasn't drenching the steak as well. For dessert, we had the paradise which was a vanilla bean cake with roasted coconut mousse and the French mocha roll. Both were good but I especially like how the mocha roll was not too sweet and had such a great texture. Service was phenomenal and our server made sure we felt welcome and comfortable. Keep in mind that you do have to pay for garage parking, which is the case for most places in short north. We went during Happy Hour on PURPOSE in order to avoid the crowds and folks just meandering around just to "be seen," or to take a couple of Instagram photos. Everything here is ON POINT! For Columbus, OH I got serious LA VIBES outta this place with the ambiance, grass walls, and music. The service was fabulous as the waitress and host were very accommodating and attentive. The drinks were stellar and the appetizers and entrees were EXQUISITE! What shrimp appetizers during happy hour do you know where they give you close to 30 shrimp cooked to perfection? The views were awesome and couldn't be beat as well. We even had our kiddo with us and he loved it and got treated great as well! Had such a wonderful experience at Mandrake last night with my boyfriend. Even the outside of the elevator is beautiful, and when we arrived on the 10th floor we had some great views. Warmly greeted when we arrived, and shown to our table with cushy seats overlooking the city- just lovely. Our waitress was so attentive and went over the menu with us thoroughly, giving us her recommendations, most of which we took and really loved. She even allowed me to try a couple wines before I made my decision. We got a couple cocktails, trying the Trix are for Kids and High Fashion. I loved them both, but High Fashion was the winner for me, just a touch of sweetness. I was happy to see how many gf options there were, and glad to hear about the organic and fresh the ingredients are at the Mandrake. So excited to try the bang bang shrimp, something I rarely get to have because of my gluten intolerance. It was crunchy yet tender and just the right amount of kick. Our least favorite part of the meal was the corn small plate, something about it just was off, wouldn't get it again. We both decided to go with sushi, getting the Rock and Roll and North High rolls. They were delicious, and again gluten free! Super filling rolls, we couldn't finish. The prices are a bit high, but for a nice night out, it was a great experience. More of a clubby feel, and when we left at 830 it was getting busy. But we were treating super wonderfully, all the staff was friendly and attentive, I definitely recommend for a nice evening out. read more

Wow. We came here on a Wednesday for my birthday. It was super nice outside for November and they had the large doors open which had a lovely breeze. Our server Josie recommended so many good things to try and eat. I'm allergic to fish and she was sure to be very attentive to that. For drinks I got 10 floors up- it was very refreshing and cucumber forward I really enjoyed it. My husband got the high fashioned. I loved the flower ice cube that came in it. For apps we got the bang bang shrimp and the pork dumplings. The sauce on the dumplings was so good and the bang bang was crispy and lite. For our meals I got the wagyu beef and the mac and cheese. Admittedly I liked the Mac more than the beef but only because it was that good. The steak was cooked perfectly and was served with a roasted head of garlic. It was very good. My husband got the octopus sashimi and the rock and roll. he loved the roll but not the octopus. In all honestly I don't think he knew what to expect so I'm not sure it's a reflection at all on the quality etc. Since it was my birthday we had the option of a dessert of our choice or a green tea shot. Since we were already stuffed we picked the shot. The manager Adam came by during our meal to check on us and make sure the open door wasn't a bother to us. If you're in Columbus, it's definitely one of the places you must go to. Great rooftop atmosphere and drinks.

My friend and I were invited to Mandrake Rooftop to try their food and they did NOT disappoint. We had been to the Mandrake rooftop once before and had an amazing experience outside on the rooftop bar but decided to switch it up and eat inside. The bar is decorated beautifully and during Halloween went all out with decorations. They had specialty drinks designed for the holiday as well. I have now tried a few shared plates including the Grass-Fed Steak Tartare (smoked aioli, egg yolk jam, crostinis, and sherry vinegar) and Wild Bang Bang Shrimp which was by far my favorite. This has spicy mayo, ginger and chives on it. If you had to pick one shared plate that would be my suggestion. For small bites and sides, I've had the Zaatar Frites (pomme frites with zaatar spice, garlic aioli, blueberry catsup) the combination of sauces sounds like it would be gross but it is by far the best combination I could've found. Now let's get to the good stuff, the main dish! The Grass-Fed Heritage Ribeye was AMAZING! This 22 oz boneless ribeye comes with citrus herb butter. We also got the Wild Lobster Mac & Cheese which is organic gruyére, cavatappi with wild-caught lobster. Both dishes were so good. You can't really go wrong with this menu. Now let's get to the sushi menu--the Chefs Special was definitely one to try. This roll comes with spicy crab, shrimp tempura, wild salmon, asparagus panko, lemon, black tobiko with miso tartar and eel sauce. It was very good!! Last but not least I highly recommend the Beach Bod for your drink and make it a Miami Vice. Plantation 3 Star, Becherovka, Coconut Infused Lillet Blanc, Flambéed Pineapple Syrup, Oat Milk and Lime Juice. My friend got the SakeMosa which was just as good but not my favorite. You really can't go wrong with this restaurant. It has amazing views, amazing food and amazing customer service. I've only ever been to Mandrake for drinks, but the food absolutely does not disappoint. As usual, the drinks were delicious. If you're a fan of savory drinks like I am, I cannot recommend the 10 Floors Up enough- it's the perfect savory drink. The steak tartare was delicious and seasoned perfectly. My boyfriend normally won't eat raw food but even he liked this. I felt like it was a large portion and super fresh. The rainbow roll was delicious and of course the fish was super fresh and delicious, but what really surprised me was the wasabi. This wasabi is absolutely out of this world- I've had fresh ground wasabi and "fake" wasabi that is actually horseradish, and this wasabi is a whole different level. It isn't too spicy, is just really captures the savory profile of wasabi without being overwhelmingly spicy. Never had anything like it! The lobster mac was delicious as well- a little heavy on the breadcrumbs but the lobster was unbeatable and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Great take on this rich classic. The service here was great as well, our waitress Bri was attentive and so helpful explaining the menu to us. Mandrake is definitely one of the best spots in Columbus. Their riveting hospitality and great food is what makes it so unique. Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and seated immediately. Our waitress Natalia was so sweet and very personable. We got the spicy hummus to start. Absolutely delicious! For entrees I got the firecracker roll and the paper crane roll. Whoever they have in the kitchen needs a raise, because that sushi was some of the best I've ever had! My girlfriend got the chicken thigh, and I will say it looked very good. The ambiance was great, but the high tops are not very comfortable. I liked that they had basically a flight of different soy sauces and that had a wasabi upgrade available too. We got some appetizer and a few rolls and some drinks. Drinks were decent but nothing spectacular. The sushi was good, but it wasn't the best I've ever had although it was the most expensive sushi meal I've ever gotten. With top, the bill was close to $200 and most of the food in this picture was what we had. We ate a little before I took this and we only had 3 drinks. This is THE BEST SPOT! It's such a gorgeous atmosphere - inside and out. Views are fantastic and loved seeing a gorgeous mural. Ordered the vodka fancy cocktail and it was yum.
