I needed a hobby to help me break the (sometimes) mind numbing routine of having a 9-5 job. Although I have a very good ear and can sing in tune, I wanted to take lessons mainly to increase my vocal range. I was lucky to be under the tutelage of Carey for over a year and a half. Within that period, I've been able to increase my vocal range and build up a nice repertoire of songs based on my musical interests. Since Carey has a huge database of songs to teach from (over 5000 songs!), we covered a lot of musical theatre, pop, and some jazz. Carey's studio has very calming, comfortable, and nurturing vibe. It's definitely a great environment where you can let your guard down and sing your heart out without feeling embarrassed! The only reason I am not with Carey today is because of financial constraints. Trust me, if the standard of living in New York didn't eat away at my income, I'd still be with Carey today!!

I'm not the best at practicing all the time and as a child I was notorious for quitting extracurriculars (classic Millennial). Well, almost a year later, I'm dedicated to my weekly lessons with Nick. His studio is an intimate space for fostering creativity and collaboration, and I can't say enough about his teaching style. He is encouraging, patient, talented, and depending on what you'd like to learn, he can run through heavy music theory or help you figure out how to play your own stuff. He really tailors lessons around your own goals. I brought in some difficult starter music and instead of telling me to start with something easier, he helped me pick it apart and take it piece by piece so I could eventually play what I wanted.
