I will sometimes come in with some inspiration, but other than that, I let her take the reins and do whatever, so long as I am consulted about the length! Sometimes I like keeping my hair long, sometimes I'm just ready to chop it all off. I also really like how this studio is set up where she only works on one person - it's intimate but also comfortable. Joy is such a pleasure to go to when I need to get a fresh cut. I am trying to be better and get my hair cut more often, but she is such a treat that it almost feels wrong to come too often...but so long as I am in the area, I will ALWAYS go to Joy and will recommend her to anyone.

I went home and just convinced myself it was good but after a week I finally did my hair and discovered I had many chunks of uneven un-blended pieces. They charged me $340. The hairdresser also took advantage, put serum in my hair withholding that he would charge me $50. I never asked for it nor did he disclosed how much it would cost. I even tipped my hairstylist over 20% so a $400 haircut essentially. I messaged my hairdresser about this issue and he just told me to come in so he can take a look... I don't have time to drive 45 mins for someone to look at my hair. I would like someone to tell me they will fix it and it was their mistake. My intuition tells me it's not worth coming back. She's also extremely efficient, and after the first visit, she perfected my look and made each subsequent appointment easy, quick and simple. I recently visited for a headshot package she offered, where a professional photographer took new photos in her studio after I received hair and makeup treatment. She is a master colorist, stays up-to-date on industry trends & techniques and is an all around lovely person. My tip: Make your appointments well in advance. I schedule mine up to a year out. She's highly in demand (that's what I want in a stylist!) and weekends fill up fast. Original review (2016): Sue Scott is amazing with hair, both color and styling. She gave me a balayage of caramel and mocha colors and I've never been so happy with getting color. Then I showed her images of 40s style curls that I'd been trying to accomplish at home. She gave me a great tutorial as she styled my hair, and I though this really went the extra mile. I've been able to replicate it at home, which is what I think we all want to be able to do after we leave the salon. I also felt like Sue really listened to what I wanted. I like to have flexibility to air dry (natural waves), straighten or curl and wanted a cut that would be versatile. I've tried all three since I got my cut last week and I'm very pleased with the results. In the salon, she's really easy to talk to and has a really positive attitude. I think the best way to get an idea of someone's work is to see it. Sue posts almost daily to her Instagram (@wispsalonalexandria), so if you are trying to make a decision on if her style would work for you, this is a good place to start. Upon entering you will find a modern salon with a little bit of an Asian flair in decor. Very clean and calming. I guarantee you will be greeted with a smile, an offer to store your coat and a drink if you like. The waiting area is clean and neat and features a coffee machine and a refrigerator with a selection of refreshing drinks. Honestly I've never waited long because appointments run on time. Next is the hair wash station where I'm always soaped up with lovely scented shampoo that suits my hair type. And there's the heavenly head massage. I could sit there all day! I have short hair and Kevin is an expert at this kind of cut. Love the way he flips the scissors as he works. I've also seen some great color work and he's got many customers with long beautiful haircuts as well. Payment at the front desk is super easy. I say rough because she was running her hand through my hair and shaking it out for a few minutes, leaving it still damp - my hair is thick, curly and prone to frizz so you can imagine how that went! Their website says the haircut includes "styling" and this is the first time I've ever left a salon with wet hair that I immediately wanted to put up in a bun when I got home. As a new customer, it seems like they could've at least mentioned when I was setting up the appointment that I needed to ask for a blow dry. I'm happy with the color she chose for my roots, but leaving the salon with unfinished hair left me not wanting to come back.
