I don't discriminate with food so you will find me at a nice restaurant, a truck, a cart, a dive…read morerestaurant, a bar and in back of the liquor store hot table. I stumbled across this place with my Yelp trick, if you are in an area away from home look for restaurants in the area because you will see options that don't show on the generic Yelp search from home and I do this while traveling also. Ok the low down on this hidden gem and I always say that you have to get off of Main Street and into the neighborhoods no matter how good or bad they are because that's where the nuggets are. This is a small neighborhood market/liquor store with a diverse hot food table that is like soul food crashed into Puerto Rican food with cat fish, fried chicken, chicken soup, bbq looking food and Puerto Rican classics. I had no service issues and everyone was friendly but some Yelpers might have a problem with the area but it's never stopped me. I was only there Puerto Rican items even though the fried chicken was very tempting. The P/R rice was a definite and I had to ask about other items like the potato ball and the dark tamale looking thing. The P/R rice was seasoned slightly compared to rest of my food and clumpy with beans in it. The potato ball was fu%king delicious and amazing seasoned nicely. It's like a crispy thin pastry shell that has a layer of mashed potatoes and a ground beef center, shepherds pie in a ball OMG I have to have again. The dark cigar looking thing is similar to a tamale with like a plant based texture/taste with shredded pork inside that was seasoned well and spiced nicely. OMG this is such a delicious gem in the back of a liquor store and well worth the drive so I can't wait to go back.

I had forgotten about Pueblo but the other night a coworker and I stopped there after work. I had…read morebeen for beer and small necessities before but never tried the food. I was hungry and in the mood to get something to take home so there we were. I should say that their beer prices and selection are pretty good for the size and location of the store. They generally have Dogfish Head, Three Sheeps, and a few others that you don't always find everywhere even if they're not exactly rare. Prices are generally good for the other items in the store too. There's a lot of teas and some other dry goods. But we were there for the deli. It was definitely past peak hours and some items were sold out. But I got some (yellow?) rice and some beef stew. The seasoned rice was flavorful for being so deceptively simple. The beef stew was good too if a little salty. I would definitely come back more toward lunchtime. I've always liked the mom-and-pop "neighborhood" vibe about Pueblo too. If I lived closer I would be there more often.

WHERE to begin? I've…read morebeen familiar with B&B since its earliest days (which roughly coincided with the earliest days of another great Milwaukee institution, Outpost Natural Foods -- where I was a member and volunteer). A good friend of mine cooked at B&B for a while. As young, recent college grads, my wife and I regularly ate there. Along with Oriental Drugs, the Blue River Cafe, The Outpost and Century Hall, B&B was a favorite, comforting go-to spot. Although I couldn't visit very often during my 25 years on the west coast, I was so very happy to know that it was still here, and as wonderful as ever, when I returned to Wisconsin in 2008. How funny to think that this tremendous haven for those wanting to include at least some vegetarian foods in their diet occupied the spot once known for Frenchy's restaurant (the place famous/infamous for its bear and lion steaks)! I'll need a new place to eat before going to the Oriental Theater. And I'll need a long time to process the sadness I feel. All the best to the owners and staff . . . and here's hoping that maybe B&B will live on in another location.

Indeed, the restaurant and servers lost their charm. The shop always maintained a nice offering of goods and prepared foods. I purchased many gifts in the shop over the years.

Updating my review to 5 stars. I came back, armed with a shiny quarter and bags. Turns out, I had…read morenot enough of my own bags. AMAZING produce deals. Bagels, pasta, beans, wow. Saved a bundle, as my children (who are half locust at near teen years and eat like nine meals a day each) cost an arm and a leg to feed. Generic toaster pastries - a steal! I will be back, again, with more bags this time. The store was well stocked, super duper clean, very fresh and ample selection of produce. A few quick prep meals, too. Original review (4 stars): New to the area - am I the only one who didn't know you need coins to get a basket here? FYI - if you want a cart, you need a quarter. Also, no grocery bags, you have to bring your own. Just me, ok. Sorry! I should have read the Yelp reviews first! OK, we just needed a few things, so our list got smaller - to just what can me and a toddler carry? The store was spotlessly clean. Great prices and the produce looked fresh with a great variety in that department, and a somewhat limited selection in other areas. I was looking for dried red lentils - they had a few dried beans and some canned, but not what I was looking for. I wanted frozen, sliced carrots for a stew, also a no go. They did have fresh, and canned. Super great deals on lots of boxed/canned, and prepared/frozen foods. Don't be like me, come prepared, and it looks like you can save a bundle.

Here's the thing I'll vouch for Aldi all day long. Love it, love the prices, love their standards,…read morelove their random isle of specials and home goodies. But hot dang this location needs more staffing. It's our usual location, so we're weekly visitors, and everytime we're there the line for checkout is sprawling down the isles. It feels rare more than one register is open. But staff themselves? Soo nice, just nowhere near enough of them. Consider this my plea. As for the store itself, this one is up to date, always very well-kept, and fully stocked!
