Cute coffeeshop in the middle of a very unlikely location. Looks like an old gas station or oil change location remodeled. Feels old and grungy yet homy and comfy at the same time. Prices are cheap. A medium coffee and cookie cost less than $2.50. Nothing is outstanding, but neither bad. There is no kitchen or bakery, and it seems like bakery items are just store bought and resold. Breakfast sandwich is microwaved Jimmy Dean (just what I get at home!). Would I come back? Yes! Especially when in the vicinity and needing a quick pick me up. Though I'm not sure that I'd go out of my way to come. Attend to your children - they will be given espresso and a kitten if not. read more

I visited here recently to hear some music on a Friday evening with my BF. Parking is limited, as is seating within. The atmosphere is worn and needs some serious refreshing. As this was originally a garage space, it is quirky and has potential. The furniture was not terribly comfortable. The barista was snarky and unhelpful. The coffee was fine, but the sarcastic service left a bad taste in my mouth. I doubt I'd go back. read more

This is the type of coffee shop that Yelp was created to rate. It's the definition of a neighborhood gem. I met some friends at this auto-shop-turned-diner-themed-cafe and all of the people walking in knew each other from around the neighborhood. It's such a friendly, quirky spot. They serve collectivo coffee, have a great selection of teas and pastries, and have a private parking lot. There are plenty of tables and wifi to set up with some work for a while. 5/2023 Went here early May. Was looking for a cup of Joe. Went down to Mlwke to see a friend and got turned around. It was raining pretty good. Found this place. Highly recommended. Workers/staff are great. Prices are reasonable. They can make some great drinks and know what they are doing. They have some nice tasty treats. They have games, tv- books. Great place to go inside and chill. Plenty of parking outside, place inside is very clean- bathrooms are clean. Check them out if in the area. Good place and highly recommended! The first I ever heard of Sherman Perk was some time ago when I saw a program on MPTV about gas stations. Sherman Perk used to be a service station, nestled into a triangle formed by Roosevelt, 50th Street and Keefe. I made it a point to make it my initial visit during Doors Open Milwaukee 2016. Copeland's Service Station, as Sherman Perk was known in its service station days, was designed by Milwaukee architect, Urban Peacock. It was built in 1939 in the Streamline Moderne mode, part of the Art Deco movement of 100 years ago when everything from trains to toasters was being streamlined. Peacock, along with partner Armin Frank, designed the old Deaconess Hospital, the convent at St. John's Cathedral, numerous theaters and public buildings since torn down and the Ambassador Hotel. (The Ambassador is extant and has been restored to its 1920s glory.) This building still sports its streamlined look with the curved front corner of the office, where Bob Olin makes coffee for you. (The last time I met Bob Olin, he was considerably younger. Many years ago, I worked with Bob Olin at the local Buick store, only that was the elder Bob Olin. His name is emblazoned on a service station sign on display in the dining area. The elder Bob once operated a service station before he started selling cars. But I digress.) The aforementioned dining area is in what was once two service bays. The overhead doors have been replaced by replica doors that look like the original overhead doors, but except for a small service door that lets you out to the patio, the doors aren't really doors. It is far from fancy but is unexpectedly comfortable. If you're into sleek, contemporary (and unromantic) decor in a coffee shop, you won't like it here. The fixtures are all throwbacks to the days of chrome and linoleum dinette sets. Some table tops are Formica's classic Skylark pattern (popularly known as boomerang) that was designed by Milwaukee's Brooks Stevens. Every other Saturday, one of Bob's friends creates egg masterpieces for your enjoyment and entertainment. Sherman Perk is a great little coffee stop in a quiet neighborhood. There aren't many parking places on the property, the regular clientele walks in every day. Those of us who commute will find spots on the lot and lots of convenient street parking, too. It's the modern version of Floyd's Barber Shop, where neighborhood folks gather to enjoy ambiance, camaraderie and great coffee. You don't have to be a regular or even a premium. Stop in and have a great cup of coffee. Tell Bob that Mort sent you. It's an inside joke, and he'll get it even if you don't. Which is okay. read more

This is a corner of heaven. I was in the area for work, and was recommended this by my sister. It is an adorable, retro-themed hideaway (and not the tacky retro, very authentic). The staff was nice, personable, and I felt he really cared about his customers. A range of people of all ages came in, many he knew by their first name. I will definitely be back when I have to be nearby for work! Couldn't recommend a better place. read more

This place is so neat. The service was super friendly and it's a great place to go and chill and get a little homework done. It's a nice little coffee shop in a neat little area that I always thought was a bad part of town. I guess I was wrong! Sherman Perk is a cool neighborhood coffee shop. There is free WiFi, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Nothing feels corporate about it, which is refreshing! The downside is the hours aren't as good as Starbucks or Colectivo. Our neighborhood group has monthly meetings throughout the fall and winter at Sherman Perk. Bob, the owner is always friendly and does a great job making my coffee. They have pretty tasty cookies and smoothies too. Bob always offers to customize my iced mocha if I prefer it lighter, etc. They give you a frequent buyer punch card that you can keep there out bring with you - handy! I enjoy Sherman Perk quite a bit and encourage you to give them a try! read more

Very cool-looking Streamline Moderne building on a small triangular block defined by Roosevelt, 50th, and Keefe Ave. The interior matches the deco theme, with tables and stools trimmed in stainless steel. A genuine local coffee shop in a residential area; lots of Sherman Park community socializing seems to happen here. My favorite coffee house in the city of Milwaukee. Any negatives are overshadowed by the positives of this family owned, neighborhood coffee shop. In the morning, Bob will serve up your beverage choice, dutifully remembering your name and favorite drink. As you wait for your beverage, you brush elbows with a local pastor, a police officer from mpd's district 7, area business people, or the neighbors from this tight-knit Sherman Park neighborhood. From live local bands on Saturday nights, to bean bag toss competitions, to supporting area business ventures. This place has a comfortable, home-like feel to it. The atmosphere is everything. If I had one criticism, it would be the hours. They're open when most 1st shifters are at work, and closed after, making it difficult to ever enjoy a date at this place. read more

I went there at lunchtime three days ago and assumed they'd have at least some type of food offerings (in addition to coffee, of course) - but all they had were a few muffins (and I do mean a *few*), so I got two of them. I also got a large latte and it was fairly good, but it was SCORCHINGLY-hot and I literally burned the roof of my mouth & my tongue. The pain lasted for three days, which wasn't exactly a great reminder of going there - but on the other hand, I have several positive comments: #1: I really liked the neighborhood (it's very multi-cultural [as reflected in the other customers while I was there]) and it's filled with lots of charming-looking houses & lots of trees. #2: The guy working there was very friendly; a really nice person. #3: The chairs are red chrome (very attractive and also perfect for the building's era [it was formerly a gas station and was built in 1939]). #4: The other customers were of different ages and all seemed very friendly (neighborhood residents), with the two sitting at the next table being particularly friendly and I had a very lengthy/very enjoyable conversation with them. read more

The shop is in a great location. I have been meaning to try for sometime now. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the person who I assume is the owner is very nice. Unfortunately the only thing I don't have good comments about is the coffee. I ordered the latte and it just didn't taste good. It had some sort of odd Sort of sweet flavor, even though I don't use sweetener. Sort of reminded me of the taste of powdered creamer. Maybe it's just a personal taste. My favorite coffee shop/decompression spot. I enjoy the laid back ambiance and friendly service. I don't drink the fancy coffees, just plain ol' joe, and they brew a good coffee here. They don't have an extremely wide variety of edibles, (chips, brownies, crullers if you're early enough) but people come here for coffee and friendship. read more

Sherman Perk is a great little place to stop on your way to work, or make it your office - they have wireless, as well as places to plug in if you need to. Games & toys for little kids, books for the older ones, and coffee & tea for everyone. Priced similarly to the big chains, though a bit less, and it's a neighborhood gathering place. Come early if you want pastries. They have poetry readings some nights, music on others, and during warm weather there are tables on the patio. Even water bowls for dogs! Now that's a family place. They have a reward punchcard (& let you leave it there in a box so it doesn't get lost!) that doesn't expire. Staff is friendly, of course. read more
