This gem is in a brownstone in Brooklyn! When you walk in it's truly like you're walking into someone's home! The restaurant has set hours for dinner, since we were a little early we were seated at the bar. The bartender was warm and inviting. We tried the rum punch, it was refreshing. I noticed the mix-ins for cocktails are house made. I love this because it gives them brownie points for uniqueness. We were seated upstairs, I loved the winding staircase that lead up to our table. Once seated our waiter came promptly, he was very friendly, well versed on the menu, and gave recommendations on popular dishes. He was very attentive throughout dinner! We had the Ackee and Salt Fish Eggrolls, they were ok to me. I could tell flavors were there with the filling but it didn't taste like it was made to order. The crust was not crispy. The pomegranate glazed ribs were delicious, meat was tender and the sauce was tangy/sweet. The garnished pickled onions were a nice touch. Additionally, we had the sweet plantains, they were undercooked and tasted like they needed more time to ripen. Oh my gosh the super star of of the show was the braised oxtails! Packed with Caribbean flavors and meat fell off the bone! The sauce it was braised in I wish I could have packed it up in a jar to take home! I loved the rice and peas, rice was fluffy and peas cooked to perfection. I now understand why Chef Maguette Fofana earned her 2025 Michelin Star! Overall I had a good experience, the music was also great and it wasn't too loud either. Great place for a date night, girls night, or a solo date night. Wifey and I came here to mark our wedding anniversary. We sat outside on a pleasant summer evening, enjoying the Brooklyn vibes. We started with drinks, prosecco and a refreshing lychee cocktail. I tried the Sorrel Spritz which was good also. They were out of the dishes we were really interested in so we just got a few appetizers. We got the scallops, crab stuffed oysters, and ackee and salt fish egg rolls. Everything was delicious. Each dish had a sweet component that we were a little dubious about, but the kitchen had a restrained hand in each case so we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was polite and had good vibes. Maybe because 18% gratuity is included on each bill. Eating out in 2026 usually means $$$ and this was no exception. Extremely disappointing experience. They ran out of rib eye and lamb shank by 7 in the evening on a Saturday. The hostess was professional and nice. Everyone else was frazzled like this was their first day. The drinks were okay, nothing memorable. The food tasted good buy not $44 a entree good. Some people in my group complained that everything had a spicy level they didn't expect but I thought it was good. Guest were screaming and pushing around their chairs at other tables. It's really loud so if you want to talk to your group during your meal it maybe challenging. A knockout!!! I came here for the first time and decided to try some of the options here. My partner and I first started with the pomegranate ribs and that was absolutely delicious. It started the evening very well, then, the drinks came and mine definitely punched me in the face. Of course I had wray and nephew in it so I already knew the power that this packed. My partner had to spritz, which was pretty fine. When the main entrée came, the oxtail was certainly delicious, I've certainly had better, but it was good enough for a restaurant quality type of oxtail, rice and peas tasted great as well along with the sweet planted. My partner originally wanted the lamb shank, but unfortunately, they ran out. So she had to settle for the ribeye, which wasn't bad at all. We ended up becoming full halfway through the meal so we just took it all. I will say, it is a very pricey restaurant, though being that it's in the downtown Brooklyn area so do be prepared to spend. The seating experience was very disappointing from the start. We came without a reservation and were accommodated, which I appreciate, but they sat us directly under the AC. We w were it we could be moved to an empty table away from the AC but was told those tables were for reservations. We continue on with our night, begin to order, about 20 minutes later a large party come in and need our table, so we were moved to one of those "reserved" tables. While being moved made us more comfortable it was disappointing to know this was only because they needed or table and not for our comfort. Overall the servers were attentive and quick. The drinks were good and the Rasta pasta was flavorful. Unfortunately the rest of our meal was disappointing. This place was actually really refreshing to visit. It's an upscale-ish Jamaican restaurant, serving traditional Jamaican food with a twist. Me and my friends ordered the ackee and saltfish eggrolls, the oxtail curry, and the shrimp. The eggrolls were phenomenal. It really was a cool Jamaican/Asian fusion dish. I've had Mango Bay on my list for so long, but the operation hours never align with my random schedule. Sad to say, I was very underwhelmed with most of my experience. I was attending a birthday dinner, got there early and was seated at the bar. I sat there for 15 minutes before either one of the men said anything to me, yet, they both looked at me several times. One of them was in and out of the back, but stopped, asked if the other guy had greeted me, and then he politely took my order. For the party, they had a prefix menu, with only 2 appetizer choices and 3 entrees. The food was just ok. The Saltfish Eggrolls were better tasting than I thought they would be. For my entree I had Escovitch Salmon, which I didn't really care for. The mocktails I had weren't a hit either. They didn't offer dessert with the prefix. The waiter that we had wasn't friendly. As he was taking orders, I motioned to ask him a question and he put his finger up at me, which I felt was very rude. They asked him to take a group picture and he brushed them off, and the lady who was initially greeting at the door, was walking past and kindly took the picture. I'm known to ask someone's favorite and then not order it, but we listened to the recs and they were all spot on. The food was a complete hit across the board. There were four of us, and we ordered the oxtail, pepper shrimp, akee and saltfish egg rolls, jerk chicken Caesar salad, goat puff pastry, and the mussels. Every dish delivered. I did not get to taste the mussels because my friend went completely silent and cleared the bowl so fast that I never stood a chance, which honestly says enough on its own. The standout dish for me was the goat puff pastry. I typically do not enjoy goat dishes, so I was genuinely shocked by how much I loved it. The flavor reminded me of the oxtail and was incredibly rich and satisfying. The jerk chicken Caesar salad was also amazing. For appetizers, we ordered the salad and fries. I enjoyed them. My friend felt like the salad had a slightly fishy taste, but it worked for me and was up to my standards. So I came here for brunch after the Brooklyn half marathon on a Saturday and I was impressed. The first time, I came for dinner and it was ok but for brunch I had a great time. I ordered the spritz flight which was good but there was one which I liked the best out of the three. We wanted the codfish fritters but they didn't have them. We ordered the cedar salad with jerk chicken and that was good, a great salad. The dressing was light and they put mango in it which gave it a nice added texture and the mango added a nice flavor. I think Mango bay is fine if you don't know authentic Caribbean cuisine. The food is cooked good though. Lacks true flavor (oxtail) I think the French aspirations of a Michelin takes away from what Jamaican food and black culture really is especially with the portions and "exclusivity" wait list lol. In my neighborhood Michelins are easy to walk into no big deal especially if it's 1 star. But I'm still confused when I saw jallof rice on the menu and thats something I wanted to avoid because in Manhattan it's mainly every other culture making Jamaican food but Jamaicans. New York is losing recipes daily because everyone wants to create "something new" and it always sounds good and looks cool on Instagram in theory but it just ends up being replicas of the next thing. The waiters and waitresses we've had both times were amazing - friendly, attentive, and always checking on how our food was, whether we needed anything, and refilling our water without us asking. We sat upstairs this time, and I have to say the room felt prettier and more romantic compared to the first floor. The lower level is also very nice, just a bit noisier since it has the bar and the tables are closer together. We ordered a lot of dishes to try, and we enjoyed pretty much everything! The oxtail, ribs, and scallops are my husband's favorites. We've had the scallops twice already because the sauce is so good! You can literally dip anything in it. The ribs are tender, flavorful, and fall right off the bone! I personally love the Branzino. The flavor is amazing, and the pineapple sauce makes the fish extra refreshing. The bones are already removed, so it's easy to eat, and there's a nice layer of mixed vegetables underneath. The oxtail is delicious too, though a little salty, but if you eat it with the rice it comes with, it balances perfectly. I had the cocktail Mango Bae today, and I really liked it! This weekend we had the pleasure of visiting Mango Bay restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. This unique little gem offers an elevated Caribbean menu that highlights authentic Caribbean flavor with an upscale spin. To begin we ordered the Greene Lit cocktail. This beautifully crafted cocktail blends vodka, prosecco, lime and mint and served as a perfect starter for what was to be an amazing brunch! For our main courses we ordered the Pepper Prawns and Grits and the Steak and Eggs. I am a huge shrimp and grits fan and have spent time trying this dish all over the country. I was very curious how Mango Bay would measure up with their unique take that includes a Scotch bonnet sauce as well as a pimento sauce. I can say unequivocally and without hesitation, this is the absolute best shrimp and grits I have ever had in my life!!! The balance of flavor, texture and freshness was only outdone by the masterful preparation of each component of this dish. One might be intimidated by the thought of a Scotch bonnet sauce but this chef has an unparalleled understanding of balance and it is clear that this dish was born from pure artistry and know-how!!! If you are a lover of shrimp and grits, as I am, this one is not to be missed! I would go so far as to say you have not had it right until you've had it here. I am told the steak and eggs were exquisitely prepared and the accompanying spicy aioli highlighted the beautiful, perfectly prepared steak, sunny side up egg and crispy ridged potatoes. I was slightly disappointed as the menu I had seen online had some dishes I set my heart on and they were not available when we arrived (ie not on the menu) and as a fair warning I believe one dish isn't available before 6pm. It seems like perhaps the executive chef changes in the last year. That being said , it is wheelchair accessible via ramp. Getting reservations here took a bit, we had to wait for over a month to come in but wow was the food worth it. I wish I could give it 5 stars just because the food was amazing but I was not expecting the hiccups we had. Although we had a reservation, our table wasn't ready so we were waiting by the door and as you know, NYC is cold so it was annoying every time someone else came in it got really cold and the place was super crowded and the bar is too small for space so we were cramped just waiting. Once we got to our table we waited over 15mins for the menu because the host forgot to give them to us. They apologized for it (bc we had to ask) and after that the experience was marvelous. I enjoyed my French toast, cheese grits and hot honey fried wings. What I didn't enjoy is being served warm water with no ice and waiting 20 minutes for a piece of lemon. We also waited 30 minutes to get our check. The restaurant had to go boxes but no bags which means you were trying to carry your leftovers in your hands without dropping any food. The shrimp was the best thing I ate. The ribs were lacking something. I think the food just looked better than it tasted overall. For entrees we shared the oxtail and the snapper. The oxtail was not good. I have never gone to a restuarant and left oxtails on the plate but it just was not good. It was tough and salty, The waiter came over and we said it to him and he just apologized and said he would tell the chef. The snapper was good. It came in a curry sauce I liked but my friend not so much. The rice that came with the oxtail was a bit mushy. Overall, I dont think I'd gravitate towards coming back. The Ras + Pasta is one of the top pastas I have ever had. It had a hint of creaminess, but not overly rich. The seafood really cuts it in the most perfect way! The oxtail was good as well, I just prefer a leaner cut, but if you aren't as annoying as me, it's a must try! We also got the beans and rice and plantains on the side. Came here yesterday for a belated Birthday dinner and the minute you walk in you're taken back by the cute decor and the ambiance we arrived early and got to sit at the bar while our table was being prepared. Bar tenders were friendly. We got seated shortly after and since we have looked at the menu before coming we kind of knew what we wanted: they were out of octopus so we didn't get that instead we got mussels and it turned out to be the highlight dish of the night Ras& pasta 7/10- flavors were good a bit salty for me but I did wish the portions were slightly bigger for the price Mussels- 10/10 everyone should definitely try this dish the curry was perfection. It was creamy but had a kick. As someone who can't eat spicy it was tolerable for me and the charred bread was a nice added touch. I do wish they offered more bread though. Oxtail- 8.5/10 enjoyed the flavors in this dish good sharing portion for two people but if you were coming with a larger group and doing family style I would say it's only good for 2 people max. Scallops- 6.5/10 quite dissapointed in this dish. The scallops was good but you can't really mess up scallops unless you tried it looked gorgeous on presentation however the flavors were lacking. Drinks, we each got two drinks and I think the best one was probably the soursop. These drinks were expensive but wasn't quite there for me personally. Again I am a cocktail snob. The old fashioned was overly sweet and the lychee mojito was not a crowd favorite, not sure what happened with that drink but let's just say it will not be ordered again.
