I have had my hair done twice by Sarah and both times it's looked amazing as well as being infinitely more manageable. I went through a long period of avoiding salons because I was afraid to have my length cut off but Sarah somehow managed to get my split ends out without making my hair noticeably shorter! Like most of the comments below, they will help you achieve the haircut that compliments the shape of your face and hair color that coincides with your skin tone (I ALWAYS ask for my hairstylist's suggestion before anything touches my hair). The gal who styles my hair is Sofia. She's outgoing, has a super sweet personality, and knows how to take care of my hair. My boyfriend also gets his hair cut by her and she does a wonderful job! He's gone to several places on the west side to get it cut, but they never seem to comprehend how to cut it the right way. For men, I would strongly recommend giving her a shot at cutting your hair. I'm thrilled with my balayage, it's not what I had imagined at all but it has its own flair and modesty that I love! As for Mangos Salon - the entrance and stairs leading up to the establishment were definitely sketchy, i might have considered turning around but boy am I glad I didn't! Julie was very patient and objective about what I was looking to get and wise in terms of how much upkeep I was willing to do. My profession doesn't allow for super unnatural colors and I'm not looking to get the wrong attention so she captured the opposite of all that spot on. The cut was self explanatory but I have to say she really stood to her word when she said she wouldn't cut off much! She said my hair wasn't damaged so it was really up to me how much I wanted cut off and as we all know, the inch always turns into three, but my hair is still plenty long so I'm happy about that. I was provided champaign to sip on during the process and I saw several other patrons with water or wine. Also, my appointment was on Valentine's Day, it was a very sweet touch for them to give each patron some flowers after our appointment. Overall very happy with the hair, service and overall ambience. I will be back to get it toned. Some opportunities for improvement: it would have been nice if Julie had asked how I want my hair styled. Not the biggest deal in the world, my hair looked great straight but I know the best effect of a balayage shows when it's curled and I enjoy wearing my hair in curls anyways vs a blow out. I'm not sure if it would have cost me more to have it curled but with the grand total, it would have taken the same amount of time to curl and potentially better represent her work. Also, I wasn't very informed about partial vs full balayage. When I had asked the receptionist on the phone she had explained her knowledge and I had scheduled for a partial balayage. But I guess we ended up doing a full balayage and I was made aware only when I asked why I was paying more than I had anticipated. Obviously I had no say in that at time of payment but I was never asked by Julie which one I wanted - I would've preferred an explanation from her on what the two mean and also a say. Urgh. I wrote a one-star review like two years ago, felt really bad, and deleted it but here I am again. I asked for a balayage when I lived in Ellensburg. I was very careful about it and went in for a consultation, complete with pictures, and I was ASSURED that my request could be done in a single sitting. Long story short, I ended up with brassy copper red hair instead of caramel. I gave the girl the benefit of the doubt and came in a second time for her to correct it, and instead it came out orange with splotches of red and yellow. Overall I paid a grand total of $300 for fried, splotchy, brassy nightmare hair like the kind you see on Google's "botched balayage" search. The reason why I'm back is because I'm considering balayage again after that nightmare and realized my hair is JUST now back at a place where I will even consider bleach. My hair was so fried for so long I didn't dare touch it except with dye to cover up, and I realized I should probably step in and say something again so that everybody else avoids what I did. Three hundred is too much for ruined hair. To be fair: 1. My hair had been previously dyed black and faded back to brown. This is why I went in for a consultation because I had a feeling it wouldn't pull right. I informed the girl of this and she thought it was fine but as it turned out I was right. 2. Honestly I know my bad case is a special one because of my previously-colored history. However, I was still informed by another stylist that the girl should have either stripped my hair or layered on an all-over base color. 3. The staff was very friendly. Their customer service was great. 4. I am not going to call out the stylist, but I will say that it wasn't Stephanie, the one people rave about. 5. Get the olaplex. 6. I'm sure if you have virgin hair you will not have the same problems I did. read more

Guys, I hate to do this. :/ This staff is so nice and the customer service is seriously the best I've ever encountered, but I had a horrible experience leaving. I went in for balayage highlights and I was so cautious I came in for a consultation first just to make sure it would even turn out okay over my previously dyed hair, and I was assured it would work. It didn't turn out right, so they gave me a complementary gloss and then I went in a second time to get it fixed and it came out worse. It is yellow, orange, and splotchy. One streak goes from brown to blond to orange. With added tip, plus olaplex, I spent about $300 dollars for the worst hair I've ever had. I tried purple toning shampoo for a few days straight, ten minutes each. I see no difference. I was really excited for this hair and I came out so disappointed. The dent to my savings would have been worth it if it came out right but I wasted all this money and it's a really horrible feeling. :( I am never going to another salon ever again. I'm not saying don't come here. I just thought it was fair to add my experience to everybody's 5 star reviews that I am frankly envious of. If it is any help, my stylist wasn't Stephanie. I would recommend that if you're using bleach, whether it comes out right or not, get the Olaplex! It's a no fail win. It's seriously worth the extra cost to avoid the damage. If I came out with fried hair as well after spending all this money it would be tenfold worse, but the olaplex saved me at least that much grief. read more

I'm a student at the university in Ellensburg, and I hadn't been home to go to my usual hairstylist. I was overdue for a foil, and found this to be the highest rated salon. I walked in to a very clean and cute salon, the atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly. I had scheduled a full foil online. The stylist I was scheduled with consulted with me and proceeded to adamantly tell me she ONLY does bayalage. This is after I told her that I had received a bayalage before and that I wanted to go back to the foiling. She proceeded to show me her work and convinced me to do the bayalage. Already slightly uncomfortable, she began. The conversation was stiff and at times awkward, I felt like she had to compete with everything I said. "You don't have thick hair, you just have a lot of it." Or, after I told her I would be seeing my regular stylist for a cut, "If you don't get your hair cut first thing when you get home, I'll have to do it right now" (with a laugh). Three and a half hours later, she finished. I liked the way it looked, but it wasn't what I had described to her or showed her during our consultation. Only two weeks later my hair looked ombre and my roots my natural color. My stylist was obviously good at doing hair, but didn't listen to what I wanted. I went into mangos and had Sarah do my hair (she's incredibly sweet & really a nice person and I traveled from Seattle) but she didn't do even close to what I had asked for on my hair. Long story short, I asked for a brunette balyage and got brassy highlights from root to tip all over and it looks terrible... And it's so sad to say because I never give bad reviews, so I say this all with honesty. I've gone to mangos before (I think I had Miranda, and she was amazing which is why I went back to mangos with confidence) I had arrived and showed Sarah the photos (non of which had brass roots at the top of the hair) and as I sat in her chair I told her how much I don't like highlights, balyage is the way to go for a natural sun kissed look! I was really excited for a brunette balyage, She agreed with me and we had great conversation! At first I told her I would like to go a tad darker (more of an espresso color for the base of the balyage, my hair isn't quite the rich brown I wanted so I asked if we could change that) her reply was kindly, "no This is a good base to work with." She then told me what she was going to do to it, and she said everything she was supposed to do and then... So time went on and the technique she used seemed like a highlighting technique but she told me it was something she learned for balyages from some renowned stylist (she's the professional so I trusted it), so when she had finished I was confused. It seemed like an all over color, like I had showed her a photo of Lauren conrads hair gone bad but I didn't show her anything remotely close. I am not a blonde and I don't like blonde and she basically died my hair blonde with all over highlights. The end product of my hair was like she tuned me out when I said what I wanted and disregarded the photo I showed her and just did what she thought would look good... So I had called and asked for an appointment to fix my hair, I couldn't make it so I called three days before and told her I couldn't and requested a new one. She (Stephanie the receptionist) left me a voicemail and had scheduled without my confirmation a date for me to come and I hadn't seen it until after that date! (Which is my fault because I could've checked my phone but I'm in finals and I work 45 hours a week, and I'm planning my wedding) so I called and asked explained that I didn't see but I never confirmed so I had hoped they didn't expect me if they never heard from me. Well they then told me they could fix it still and we scheduled a new appt. in that same phone call she put me on hold and came back and said they couldn't fix my brassy half blonde hair for free so Stephanie offered me a discounted rate to have it fixed, I was going to go for that but I had asked "is it possible that I could have it done like the original way I had asked for? I'm just a little nervous for it to be done wrong a second time, ya know?" And she replied with "since it's not in the window I we can't guarantee she'll do what you had wanted to your hair." Which I simply replied with no thank you, if I can't have my hair guaranteed correct the second time I'm not going to pay to mess it up more and with my engagement photos coming up that's just not an okay thing, I can find a stylist in Seattle, it's not a big deal." And hung up. Everyone asks me if I did an overall color dye, or where I got my highlights... Not what I was going for. And these are friends that don't know hair.. Two of my friends that are stylists said this was done terribly. I'm sorry but that is not good business: Mess up 1: Sofia didn't listen to what I had asked for and ruined my hair, not doing it correctly Mess up 2: Scheduling and appointment without my confirmation whatsoever and then saying "she could have made money during that time when you didn't come in" well you should have gotten my confirmation, I never said I could do that date with that time. Mess up 3: Not guaranteeing that it could be done correctly the second time. I feel bad for Sofia, I went back in full confidence because she did a great job last year on my hair. Well they set me up with Sofia, sofia ruined my hair, and lost a customer. I hope Sofia doesn't lose more customers because of other stylists mistakes & bad listening skills. read more

I have come to Stephanie on two different occasions with uneven hair color, dead ends, and a fear of cutting off ANY length. While I've always been a long hair person, it was time for me to chop my locks off and start over. The first time I went to see Stephanie, I was terrified. I knew I needed to cut my hair, but that didn't mean I wanted to. When I sat down in the chair, I gave Stephanie a vague idea of what I wanted my hair to look like. Right away she told me not to worry and that she had the perfect cut for me. When she finally turned me back around to see my hair, I couldn't believe it. It was like she had read my mind. It's so wonderful to find that ellensburg has a great hair salon/stylist. Stephanie all day every day! Yep, she is the business. I just moved to Eburg from Austin, Tx and was worried I wouldn't be able to find a good place for fun and cute hair. I need someone with confidence and experience when I am coloring my hair (blonde). My last salon experience (not in Ellensburg) destroyed my hair so I had been nervous to color my hair again. Stephanie listened to what I wanted then made several suggestions and talked me through the whole process and together we decided to do a more natural looking balayage rather than foiling. I am really happy with the results and will make this my home salon :) Also the salon itself is a bright but relaxing environment in a nice loft space in downtown Ellensburg. Thanks Mangos! I have been to this salon twice. First for a haircut and second with my mother in law for a mani-pedi. I was in the chair for over an hour to get a haircut. I asked for a pixie - what I expected to be a short cut with lots of texture. It looked like a mushroom, no texture, too long, too heavy. I had to get it recut at a different salon. Second visit months later was abysmal. We were there for three hours for a straightforward pedicure followed by gel polish manicure. Some of the time we were left alone in the nail room while they were gone for minutes at a time. My gel manicure was not even and looked like an amateur did it. Then the polish peeled off my nails after 5 days of normal wear. My mother in law had puddles of polish on most of her nails and had a thick coat of polish under her nails that has since fallen off. I have no idea why they have the reviews they do, they have done nothing but waste my time and money. read more

Normally I am not one to leave a negative review but I just received a phone call from my roommate about the nail service she got this afternoon. She was very dissatisfied. She received a shellac manicure and a pedicure, which was probably a fifty + dollar service, plus I know she's the type to leave a tip even when leaving unhappy. I am aware that it's on her to speak up about this situation but I'm just not sure why any respectable nail tech would let a client leave the chair with their nails looking anything less than perfect. After reading reviews I decided to come here to get my hair cut. I have very short hair and usually go to the barbershop, but I was looking for something new with my hair. Getting it cut at Mangos was a terrible idea - unnecessarily expensive, considering I have short hair. The haircut was atrocious - incredibly uneven. I went to the barbershop I usually go to, and had my hair cut there two days after going to Mangos. Thankfully, my hair is now MUCH better and I was not charged by my barber - she stated she wasn't charging me because she believes I was ripped off. Worst haircut I've ever had in my entire life. Watch out! I went here to get my hair color refreshed - even brought a swatch with the color I wanted - a nice light red, much like what I currently had. The colorist mixed some stuff up, put it on my hair, rinsed it out, and it was dark purply black! Her response? "I'm new here - I've never used this color line before - I didn't realize you weren't supposed to mix those together!" Five hours later, after a lot of chemicals and a lot of shampooing, they had gotten my hair back to a color I could wear to work, but it was fried so badly I had to cut it all off a few days later. On the bright side, they "only" charged me ten dollars! I was so grateful to get out of there with hair still on my head that I didn't argue. I know that's just one stylist - but the point is, the salon let someone do color who had no idea how to use the products they use! I went in to mangos with a picture of a simple foil and I had Sarah as my stylist. I left in tears, my hair was completely ruined:( it had yellow streaks everywhere and my haircut was uneven and looked like I had gone to the beauty school. When I told Sarah how I felt about my hair she argued and said it was fine and I asked to get a discount because I didn't get what I asked for and she said I got the full service so I had to pay full price! normally wouldn't leave a bad review but Mangos has really gone down hill....They don't listen or follow through with what I have asked for several times suggesting I try new things ( how are you going to tell the woman who's in charge of your hair that her opinion is not your vision and then trust her to not "accidentally" mess up your hair??) and the prices they charge are ridiculously high! This place used to be calm and relaxing they had beauticians that seemed to care what the customer wanted (realistically) They were very personable and paid attention to fine details....now it's just uncomfortable and unprofessional. I don't mean to point fingers but Stephanie-I'm pretty sure doesn't know how to smile. She comes off as rude and condescending with the attitude of if you don't like what we've done for you go somewhere else. Which I will be. To top it off they take for freaking ever to do simple foils or even all over color! Several times I've noticed all the women going in and out of what I'm assuming is the break room leaving me to stare at the wall for way longer than usual. would it kill you to sit and visit with a client instead of catching up on catty girl gossip? I mean for that much money shouldn't you ladies at least be girl gossiping with the one in your chair?? Just saying there's no need to be in the back all the time. Unfortunately not sure what's changed other than at least 2 of the girls that I really liked aren't there anymore and nobody at the salon seems to know where they went, whether they're still in town or have moved out of town... I had my hair cut here on a whim. It had become too long and I was bored. Sarah was my stylist, and I don't think we communicated very well because my hair was far shorter than what I had in mind and cut in a very bizarre fashion. It wasn't the worst haircut I've ever had, but I didn't come away feeling refreshed or good as I hope to leaving a salon. The price was too high for the lack of satisfaction with my hair.
