FINALLY made it in last night for dinner and I'll have to remember this place is here more often when I need to get out of the house. They've changed their service style recently to a counter service. You order at the counter, but they'll bring it to your table. With a small number of tables inside and a couple dotting the walkway outside, it's not hard for them to find you. I decided on the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich (with fries) and a sweet tea. If you want the full plate, you can 'upgrade' to beans, rice & roasted veggies for $3 more. The pork was plentiful and the sauce added a nice sweet (with a touch of) heat to the meat. The fries were golden & crispy. And forgo the ketchup - use the Dr. Bill's Savory Sauce on the table. I don't know where they got it, but it's delicious. It is definitely a no frills type place, but that's fine by me. PV can use a good dose of no frills places. read more

Finally tried out some of their food while at RAM. They had a lot of delicious choices like salmon poke bowl and mahi fish tacos but I opted for the Cuban sandwich which was $6. It was pretty delicious and I even added a little extra sauce on the side not because it needed it but because the sauce was sooo good! I have been here a few times now and thought I reviewed it but no. So the place is nice small kind of a homey feel to it. They have a big mangrove tree mural on the wall. I found it looking for the butcher shoppe one day and figured what the heck. On that trip I had a quesadilla and this time I ordered the Cuban. both with black beans n rice. The beans and rice are the bomb diggy. The quesadilla was good but the Cuban was pretty cheesy. Not much meat but everything else that make a Cuban a Cuban. The lady told me I should order the fish, Cobia today and I guess I should have listened. So next time I will listen cause most of the time I ask the server what is the best. The only knock on this place, and it's been said in other reviews, is the fact that you'll be placing your order at the counter versus table service. The place was empty when I arrived, but I did go mid-day so no biggy. Service was friendly and nice. I ordered the fish of the day plate. The fish itself was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The mango salsa that accompanied it was pretty good, not a grand slam. The rice and veggies included were ok. Mangroves catered my daughters wedding and it was the second biggest hit of the night (smile on my daughters face being first). We had about 140 people and the owner of the wedding venue was not an easy person to work with, but Greg (Mangroves owner) was so professional and on point with everything. He gave great suggestions for menu items while making certain to address all of the desires of the bride and groom. He was so easy to work with and always prompt in returning calls or addressing concerns we or the venue owner had. Regardless how great Greg was, he was outclassed by his food! Every dish was amazing! All of our guests praised the food. I have since used Mangroves to cater lunches for my office and they have gone spectacularly well - a huge hit with the staff. Had a brilliant Mahi with tropical salsa black beans and rice the other night. Chef was on point with the blackened fish. Moist flavorful and a noise portion. Beans and rice were superb. Nice staff. A little kitschy atmosphere. A few women's touches would make this front end truly special. Get the coolers out go the front end. Put tablecloths over those my first apartment tables and chairs. This was one bad meal. I ordered the fish taco with black beans and rice. The tortilla was like thin, dry cardboard, very similar to the cardboard liner in the collar of a new shirt. The fish (mahi, I was told) tasted like it had been in the refrigerator at least one day too long. I was able to scrape the few black beans I was served off the top of the congealed mass of white rice that made me think of left overs, reheated in the microwave for a minute too long.
