It has been a while since my last visit to Manhattan Bagel of Fairfield. About 7 years to be exact. I think I rated them with 2.5 stars previously . I must say that they have definitely stepped up their game since then. My knocks were for the almost bread like bagels and the tepid coffee. Well I am happy to say that both areas have improved dramatically. While still not quite what I would call top notch the bagels have improved. A bit denser and doughier than before. Closer to what a classic bagel New York style bagel is supposed to be. The old school coffee dispensers have been replaced with state of the art dispensers with LED readouts. Not sure what the LED's mean but the coffee is now piping hot and excellent quality. A solid four stars. Good enough to get back in the rotation. Excellent staff as well. read more

FOOD - I'm a fan of this chain and was in the area for work thought I'd stop by pickup a bagel for breakfast. I'm taking the bagels home to eat but I'm so annoyed with the service I'm posting this review before eating the food. SERVICE - 100% terrible. Someone greeted us hello when we walked in, ok fine. But the girl, she was very young, at the register was impatient I needed to look at the options before ordering. I placed an order and had a special request and she wasn't happy about it. I ordered three bagels needing cream cheese added and then wanted to browse some more to take home sans cream cheese. She made me feel rushed. It was only 945 in the morning idk why she's so cranky and rude to clients. I handed her my card upon payment which she took hastily from my hands then handed it back and walked away. I expected a thank you for your order and receipt. Nope so I walked over to what I assumed is the pickup area. She gave me a bag. I looked inside and a bagel was missing so I waited thinking it's still being prepped. She comes over to me and asks if I needed anything else and I asked about the coffee and the bagel I was waiting for. She pointed out coffee is self serve, great why didn't you tell me that when you took my order and payment. Then about the bagel she says "well I read your order back to you" and proceeds to read it again. I see the bagel was left off and it's no problem I'll pay and get it now. I'm not familiar with the area I don't know if she acted this way because she didn't like the way I looked or because I'm not a regular at the store. Also they do have a restroom but the door is very light. Usually bathroom doors are solid wood heavy. My friend used the bathroom while I got the food and the door swung open hitting the wall. The girl who took my order made a face when that happened. She seemed so annoyed I'll never want to come back to this place. COVID - they have one door for entry and one for exit which is great. I'm not sure if they're limiting capacity but they're not enforcing social distancing. They have two tables in front the the register so you can't get too close I guess but these tables are blocking the bagel display window. read more

By far one of the best breakfast spots in the area. I went here not hearing that Manhattan bagel is a chain and this one definitely does not feel like a food chain. Every time I walk in I am greeted in such a way that makes me feel like I'm in a family owned business. I have been in the area for three weeks due to work and I have gone here almost everyday for breakfast. I've tried multiple things from the ranchero wrap to the thintastic avocado BLT. It was ok, really has nothing to do w the business it was a poor choice on my end, I wasn't feeling my selection 2nd time in I ordered bacon egg and cheese on everything bagel w a medium coffee. Dark roast coffee is really good, sandwich was a bit small but tasty. This place is totally brand new so it's really nice inside, seems clean and well kept so far. Not a family owned North Jersey bagel shop but decent nonetheless. Haven't really found a great bagel shop near Wayne so I wanted to check Oort ManHattan. It felt more like an upscale coffee shop that happened to serve bagels rather than a bagel store. Every time I walk into this location they are super friendly and ready to greet you. Your order is taken quickly and accurately. All of the food is made very fresh and the pricing is fair. Like I got the Chelsea Sandwhich today on asiago bread. I asked if I could get it without peppers. they allow to you to basically take out anything you don't want or change something to something you do want. There is always specials. I love how it comes with a drink, chips, and a choice of side like macaroni salad etc. I want to come back here more. The Chelsea that I ordered was so good. it was warm to my liking, delicious asiago bread, melted cheese that was just perfect and small chunks of chicken. must be my new fav!!! This was possibly the worst breakfast I've ever eaten. I see there are many good reviews here on Yelp, so I will give the benefit of the doubt, but this is not my first bad experience with this restaurant location. Both of my meal experiences were through Doordash, which I will attribute the coldness of the sandwiches to (even though that still shouldn't be the case consistently). I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel, and a blueberry muffin. This cost me $19 ($15 before tip). For 10 years I frequently bought fresh Lox and cream cheese bagel sandwiches in midtown manhattan, with "extra Lox" about an inch high for about $8.50. So I'm not sure why the most common breakfast sandwich in New Jersey is priced so high here; especially since there was one single fried egg, one single slice of american cheese, and a thin layer of very dry, pretty flavorless turkey bacon (they did not offer a version of this sandwich without meat through Doordash which I would have preferred to order). The sandwich was so sparse, from 8 feet away this looked like a plain bagel with nothing on it. The quality and quantity of ingredients for the price was very disappointing. By far the worst part of the sandwich was the bagel. It seemed like it came out of a bag of bagels from a grocery store in one of those states that doesn't know what bagels are. It was so chewy that I literally had to take a break from chewing during each bite. I am not being dramatic. I'm not a picky eater, and I don't even write restaurant reviews, but I couldn't let this one go. I removed all of the turkey bacon, and added my own condiments to the sandwich to add flavor. I think I only ate as much as I did because of how much it cost me, but my dog did finish the sandwich for me. I haven't eaten the muffin yet at the time of this review because I'm truthfully waiting for my jaw to rest from the sandwich. I'm aware this sounds dramatic, but I'm just quite angry about it. Regardless of the sandwich being expensive and cold, which happens, it is just an inexcusably poor sandwich in terms of ingredients and basic sandwich construction. If everyone else has had a better experience here, then I guess ignore this review, but this was my experience. read more
