I've been a patient of MB vision for at least 15 years and have always had very positive experiences with them. I have always wished to find other specialties (dentist, GP, etc) that I feel as comfortable with as I do whenever I come here. My primary doctor was Dr. Okada and from being in my teens wearing glasses he always took good care of me and ended up helping me transition to contacts and then years later to lasik. Most recently, I had an "eye emergency" and was at a loss of where to go and it was the holiday season, but they were able to get me in with a different doctor asap and it turned out I had a piece of metal in my eye. I saw Dr. Michael (Tran) and he was fantastic. Fixed me right up and made sure to follow up and also provided me with a way to contact him if I had any issues over the holiday when they were closed. I saw him for multiple subsequent visits while treating my eye and each time I felt that I was in good hands and I would highly recommend him. They are out of my insurance coverage network in recent years after switching providers, but I will gladly pay the premium to come here if I need to because it is worth it. read more

I can't praise this optometrist/business enough. Not only are their eye appointments extremely well run, clean and efficient, but their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. In addition to that, I had my babysitter cancel last minute and they told me to bring my ten month old in and they would help watch him. I've never had a doctor office be so welcoming toward children. They played with him the entire time and loved on him and treated it like they were lucky ones! I hate going to the eye doctor. Im someone who has had interesting eye history (3 surgeries, lasik, potential weird syndromes) so I'm always afraid to go because I'm poked or prodded. These guys are fantastic!!! They have brand new technology so the exams are pain free with no discomfort. Even the glaucoma test was easy, thanks to the fact that air doesn't shoot in your eye! Dr. Choi was quick and was able to tell me things about my eyes no one ever saw. For example, my eyes are really impacted by my allergies. Who knew? My lids are in rough shape, which is now being fixed thanks to this office. Definitely coming back each year. read more

I found Manhattan Beach Vision Group through my insurance and glad I did! Making an appointment is easy...did it online. You have options to select the doctor and the possible days and times. They will call you to confirm which day and time works for you. On top of that they will send you the documents via email to fill out beforehand. Easy! On my appointment day, I had to take my 3 year old with me. This could have either been disastrous or not. It was not! They had toys for him to play with. As I was going through the testing they said my child can bring the toy with them. They pulled up a chair for him next to me so he can play and watch me get my eyes tested. The staff was extremely nice and patient with my son!! Eye testing was good...pretty standard. No dilation needed for me, which is awesome! The doctor saw me within minutes of me waiting and she explained everything to me as if I didn't know anything. She showed me a picture of my eyes and explain to me what she was looking at and the status of it. Definitely will recommend this place to anyone! read more

I have been with MB Vision Group for two years now and I still like it. I was not pleased with Dr. Choi, so I switched to Dr. Funnell. I have nothing but praise for Dr. Funnell. He is honest and to the point. Afternoon appointments are a bit busy. My most recent appointment was on a Tuesday at 2 p.m. Still, I was in and out of MB Vision in just under an hour. I spent about 20 minutes waiting overall between my assessment with the vision assistant and my evaluation with Dr. Funnell. My time with Dr. Funnell was approximately 10-15 minutes which is more than with any other doctor. Truth be told. I like that the staff automatically schedule your appointments and give you a confirmation e-mail and call. They will mail your contacts to you which is A +. These days it is hard to get quick and quality healthcare, I know. Thank you Dr. Funnell for making this possible today. The parking is still really tight- but there has always been sufficient parking at my appointment. So this is not really a big issue. read more

Needed a new optometrist and found them via my insurance and after checking out their Yelp page I decided to give them a try since they had so many great reviews--I was not disappointed. All staff was very courteous and pleasant. I waited less than a minute to be seen. The optometrist I saw made sure all my questions were answered and provided great service. They also have a good selection of frames for both normal glasses and sunglasses, at reasonable prices. I went to the Urgent Care and they found a metal splinter in my eye. They told me I had to see an ophthalmologist right away. My friend recommended Manhattan Beach Vision Group. They were able to get me in right away. Dr. Funnell took his time and explained how he was going to take the metal shard out and clean-up the rust that had accumulated on my eye. Wow. Seriously. Wow. I am generally NOT a fan of going to get my annual eye exam, but from the moment I stepped into this business, my experience was entirely positive! The woman at the counter was incredibly kind and helped to get me set up for my appointment. The waiting room was clean and welcoming and everyone with whom I interacted was excellent! The woman who administered the first several eye exams was professional and walked me through each step informatively, unlike what I have experienced in other places. I only waited a few minutes in between those exams and seeing the optometrist, who by the way, was a gem! He politely answered every one of my questions and was incredibly informative as well. I was most deeply impressed by his willingness to seek out a recycling service for my daily contacts (as those are not recyclable and I was unwilling to switch over from monthly contacts unless he could guarantee a recycling program, which he did!) *** PSA - If you wear daily contacts, pick up a recycling box here and help save the damn planet, p-l-e-a-s-e *** Wonderful place. I absolutely adore Dr. Choi. I have been going to MB Vision Group for several years now. I have chronic dry eye and he does a great job at helping me to manage it. He is also a truly cool guy with a warm heart, great personality and he knows his stuff. In addition the office staff is great as well. I had my annual exam last week and now need reading glasses. I do not wear any type of glasses otherwise. The transition to getting me fitted for frames and lenses after my exam was seamless and quick. They knew my insurance coverage and pointed me in the direction of frames within my price range. read more

I made the mistake of coming here because they had 5 star reviews compared to LensCrafters. After the service I have received on multiple occasions I have no idea how they have 5 stars. The only thing good about this place were the doctors. They were smart and kind. The office staff? Completely incompetent. They LOST my glasses. They said they would call when the lenses and frames came in (they don't have an in house lab) after waiting for nearly a month I decided to call. They said they had gotten them in early that week. Mad that they forgot to call me, I go to the office to pick them up. They hand me glasses I didn't order. I then go find the glasses I special ordered in the for sale area. I am so lucky someone didn't buy them! Also they ordered glasses that were way too small for me. These people had no idea that glasses come in different sizes. They also didn't know how to adjust the glasses to fit my face. So I ended up having to go to LensCrafters to get them adjusted and be able to wear them. And now...the billing. I was told they took my insurance. They took my insurance card and I assume they ran it? But turns out my insurance didn't kick in until 1 day later so I'm stuck with a bill. They shouldn't have told me I was covered if I wasn't. I would've waited 1 day if I knew. Anyway I pay the bill over the phone and after some confusion about my insurance another person gets on the phone and says I haven't paid. Only to find out my credit card information is just sitting in someone's pocket while they wait to enter it. Which made me very uncomfortable. They were going to try and help me get a contact appointment but I am NEVER coming back. I don't trust these people. I'm not even sure I actually owed them money since they lied to me but I just paid them the $80 to leave me alone. read more

Been seen mostly by Dr. Funnell and a few times by Dr. Choi, both them and the entire staff are first rate, professional, friendly and efficient. I've lost count of the number of people I've referred over the years. Yes, the office can be a little busy, especially near the end of the VSP benefit year, but they are pretty good about pre-scheduling. Losing your eye sight sucks and not knowing if it can be corrected is just plain scary. I was recommended to Dr.Funnell and the Manhattan Beach Vision Group after a Doctor at one of those Mall 1 hour eye care places couldn't figure out why he was unable to correct my vision. He gave me a card to contact a group called The National Keratoconus Foundation, what is going on? I was told by the Foundation to see Dr Funnell who is a specialist in Keratoconus. There aren't too many places around to get diagnosed so I was glad when I found out he was in the South Bay. So they confirmed the prognosis I have an eye disease that can not be corrected by Lasik, an eye disease that has limited my driving at night, and for the rest of my life could be a major inconvenience. Dr. Funnell and his staff are awesome they were very caring and worked with me while being fit with special hard lenses. They took their time with explaining the progression of the disease and what treatments are being developed in the near future. I had to make several visits and was never charged past my initial visit so the Doctor could see how my eyes were adapting to the treatment. So here I am two years into my diagnosis and every visit to Dr Funnell has been very warm with a family like atmosphere.Great staff that cares about their patients welfare, I wouldn't go to anyone else. read more

I've been going to see Dr. Okada for over 15 years when he was in Alhambra and now since I've moved to the Westside, I'm happy to see that he has a practice in Manhattan Beach now. I got laser eye surgery a couple of years ago so I don't go to the optometrist that often but when I get to go I actually look forward to seeing Dr. Okada. He is very thorough and always pleasant. The parking spaces are a little cramped and the building is kind of old but the inside is very nice, spacious, and comfortable. They also have a lot of high tech equipment which they are pretty up to date with. Also, since it was the first time I visited that office, I got a thank you card in the mail and a $5 Coffee Bean gift card...how nice! read more

I have been coming here for my optometry ever since I can remember, and from childhood to adulthood this place has always been superior to other offices and stores I've visited. The parking lot is a lot like vehicular tetris with how small it is, but there is always a spot or two. The only way into the office seems to be the elevator. The office itself is very large and inviting, and all the receptionists are friendly. The frame selection they have is even greater than some online sites I've searched (I know right? how is that possible?) with what frames they have available. All the doctors here are polite and incredibly helpful. I can put it this way - i've never ever had any complaint with any phase in the glasses process, from the eye tests to the frames, to the lens choices, they even went a step forward and let me check out contact lenses for free.. It was very strange to finally see clearly without my glasses and I don't think i was ready for that. When I get my insurance back in January (another story), I'll defintiely head there and talk about lasik options! read more

From the attentive staff, the selection of tea and coffee, to the dedicated waiting room (where I never have time to finish reading the magazines or watching the tv program because I get called so quickly!) to the medical staff, this place is great. The specialist who did my eye exam was kind and diligent, and Dr Funnell is the kind of doctor who takes an interest in your wellbeing as a person, not just can you read this line or not. Professional, clean and caring is how I would describe Manhattan Beach vision group. What else could I possibly want for my vision care?

I went to my first appointment last week and it was great! The staff is fantastic; I had Dr. Choi. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He also helped me maximize my benefits from my insurance (EyeMed), and I ended up not having to pay for my supply of soft contacts. Manhattan Beach Vision Group also sent me a $5 Noah's Bagels gift card after my appointment for choosing them, which was a pleasant surprise. It's not a lot but it's the thought that counts. The facility is also fantastic. There is covered, dedicated parking; the office is very large with comfortable seating; and they use the latest equipment. You don't have to deal with an annoying pressure puff machine, because they use instead a handheld device that they hold close to your eye (a little less than eyelash-length away) that doesn't shoot any puffs at all. What a relief! You also don't have to deal with dilated pupils anymore after an appointment because they use instead a opto map retinal exam that takes images of the inside of your eye, providing a much broader and detailed view of the retina without dilation. Unfortunately, this isn't covered by insurance yet so you have to pay $39, but I definitely think it's worth it. All in all, I would highly recommend Manhattan Beach Vision Group for their excellent service and quality. read more

I have been going to Manhattan Beach Vision for years. I have seen both Dr. Okada and Dr. Clark. Both have been great as well as the rest of the staff in doing my annual exams. Now, I have pretty decent vision so I' m a walk in the park for the doctor to see, but I do really like MBV. It also is very new and modern which always makes me feel better when seeing a doctor. There is also a section for eyeglass selection. I like how they take the time to give you their opinion on what glasses look good on you and which ones do not. I'm visiting friends in the SouthBay area for a few weeks & home is a good drive away. If I didn't live so far I would make this my regular vision care location! This morning I woke up and switched out my soft contacts. With my luck, my new right contact ripped (in my eyeball!!) and I suddenly found myself without contacts (I had already thrown my old contacts in the toilet), a pain filled eyeball and with blurry vision...! I quickly called my regular eye doctor & asked for a copy of my prescription. My goal was to somehow get my hands on a pair of contacts right away so I can stop walking around & driving like a Grandma (no disrespect meant here). I tried calling a few places & no one was really trying to help. My friend recommended her Eye Doctor here in Manhattan Beach. I was a little scared because the location made it sound expensive, but I was open to suggestions as I really want to see leaves in trees again. She ended up bringing me to Manhattan Beach Vision Group. This place is clean, welcoming, it has a large & bright waiting room & the staff is seriously amazing. They quickly got me in front of their Contact Lens department gals. They looked at my prescription & automatically said they didn't have it in stock (nooooo!!!... *sad*), BUT, they immediately offered to order me a sample that could be here as soon as tomorrow (Yayyy!!!!). So, I quietly & shyly asked "ummm... How much will that cost me?.." The gal responded "I can give it to you as a sample so it would be nothing." O... M... G...! I was beyond happy & thankful. I'm not even a patient and they are going out of their way to help a poor little gal who is bumping into blurry walls & poles. If you live, work, breathe near or around this place you must pay them a visit. I'm seriously considering somehow making this my vision location, even though they are a long drive for me. This place is great. I've been wearing glasses for about 10 years and contacts for about 5, so when I moved out here, I had to find a new optometrist. Since I was new to the area, I just found this place based on the fact that my insurance had them on a list of doctors who accepted my specific plan, so I just went with them. The people who work here are so incredibly knowledgeable with everything from glasses and contacts, to the break down of insurance and what is covered vs. what I needed to pay out of pocket. I recently got my yearly eye exam, and was very pleased with how professional and knowledgeable everyone is. Everything I had questions about was explained in a clear and concise manner to me, and I left my eye exam completely satisfied. You walk into their well decorated, relaxing and spacious office and are greeted by the friendly office staff. Sherry gives you a big hello and points you to the Keurig and offers "Good and Plentys" from the free gumball machine. Next one of the sweet technicians takes you to the exam area where they perform extensive state-of-the-art testing. I am lucky to have Dr. Funnell, who is very friendly and while he checks my vision we discuss interesting topics like bicycling across Europe. He takes time to explain the various tests results and why they perform some of them. Next, Paul directs me to their extensive eyeglass display. He shows me all the options with the pair I choose and recommends a slightly smaller size. Their are many options on the type of glass (personally I like the ones that turn into sunglasses outdoors) plus you have options on the length of warranty. Since mine often are scratched due to carelessness, I can bring mine back and have the lens replaced. Dr. Okado had to look at my eye in an emergency once, he was very nice and thorough, as well. My husband has been their client since they opened and me for the last six years. We will stay with the group even if our insurance changes. They are all great. read more

I was in New York for a year and crying because I couldn't see Dr. Okada and the wonderful people at Manhattan Beach Vision Group! They are so thorough and detail oriented when it comes to finding the right prescription for your eyes. You don't find this kind of good work everywhere, and I'm so glad that I moved back so that I can get my vision back on track. I wouldn't trust anyone else. Also, great selection of eyewear from various brands to fit your budget from Calvin Klein to Paul Frank to Prada to Converse. I also have to mention that the staff is really wonderful here. He is an amazing doctor - so kind, thorough and knowledgeable. When our pediatrician told me that we needed to get my son's vision tested, I knew exactly where to go! Dr. Choi and the rest of the staff was soooo sweet and patient with my fidgety 5 year old boy - he actually asks me when he's going back!
