Food - I order the Reuben and my son ordered the Roast beef platter. The Reuben sandwich was very good. Perfect amount of slaw and dressing. The Rye was perfectly toasted and the meat ration was dead on. The tater tots were cooked just right and not greasy at all. The side of coleslaw is the kind I like - bonus. The Roast beef was good and the mashed potatoes (not instant) tasted very good - not too buttery and great texture. The gravy was not. Getting the gravy on the side would be his recommendation. The service was great. We were quickly greeted at the door with a smile and sat down in a large comfortable booth. The tables were clean, the restaurant bright, not loud, and we do love a good diner. The menus are beat and need to be laminated over again and/or replaced. On site parking was easy. The restroom was clean. read more

We appeared at this place on a late night drive home. The 50s aesthetic is top notch. If you love a 50s and a good diner atmosphere, this would be my recommendation. The hostess and waitress was super nice and welcoming. It added a nice touch to this place. Food is great. Solid Diner food. Not overly salty not overly greasy and plenty of flavor. Coffee is solid too! Downside: the table we sat at was not properly cleaned, floor was also very dirty. It was not crowded so staff could have had time to wipe the tables and sweep the floor. Overall, solid 4/5. Could easily be a 5/5 with some work. read more

We went there , hoping to have a good time and good meal.We stand at the door for 10 min, but nobody came to seat us.A young waitress came close to us to clean a table.I asked her may we sit down anywhere,because there were plenty of empty tables. She insisted that we wait at the door. It was so unpleasant to stay at the door ,ignored by the whole staff.It seems they dont need customers and dont care about the bussiness. I,ve been at the restaurant bussiness for more than 40 years and what I experienced that day is simply unacceptable. I'm not sure why I can't edit my review, so this has to be a fresh review. Since moving out of the area for years and not even being in slightly obnoxious local "nosy" social media groups, I thought my favorite milkshake and fry combo at Manheim sounded pretty good for a Sunday night after visiting an ailing parent. My husband and I used to go here on dates and we loved it. A few changes: The embracing marquee board out front was switched off and there was almost no one parked out front or inside except for two other families, us and some staff eating at the counter. The soda fountain has been swapped out for a very cheap dispenser and my spouse got a bleach stain on his black pants from perhaps, bleach that didn't quite dry yet. His biscuits and gravy were excellent, but I couldn't fathom my usual milkshake and french fry combo. The fries were overcooked and the strawberry ice cream was processed to mimick the taste of real ice cream. I could only stand a few hours even on the second time because my shake was a little too thick the first time. Props though to Lily (spelling?) for being pleasant and not only making it twice but also making it so pretty each time. That made me smile. She even complimentary gave us coffee on the house in to go cups. However, the styrofoam cups started tearing easily just by holding the cup. It leaked onto my outfit and pooled into the cup holders. But again, that wasn't the staff's fault, that was the fault of management going too cheap on their inventory. For the service, I tipped her 50% because I feel she deserved it. After finding out the management switched hands and they had to go very cheap on various areas, even for a diner (not all diners are like this!), we probably will just be looking elsewhere. It's a shame because the Manheim has been a longtime area staple. read more

This place is awesome! I was here 2 times in the past week and I am not lying when I say it was amazing. I got the grilled cheese both times, and it tastes awesome! The bread is the perfectly cook, along with the cheese. I just love the smell and tastes of it, as the American Cheese I got was so good. It has a comfy inside, and makes your feel at home. I personally think it's the best diner in the area, and suggest coming here if you're near, as you're in for a treat. read more

I've been to this diner many times and I've recently noticed a decline in service and cleanliness of the restaurant. In our latest visit, we were seated in an area where the sun was beating on me. I tried to move the blinds, but some of them were missing - that's when I noticed how dirty things were. We asked to take something to the window, but the server said they would not do that. We asked to move some of the blind panels, the server asked the manager, the answer was no. I was uncomfortable, so I told my friends I would see them later and walked out. Aah, so close to what a retro diner should be. You have to ove the shiny aluminum exterior, neon accented interior, the black and white tile floor, and the 50's vibe the interior portends. There is a really cool counter (for those who roll alone -or, just dig counters), booths upholstered in a pattern reminiscent of the back seat of a '56 chevy, and vintage advertising. The waitresses were equally apt. One approached an octagenerian with "hey young fella, what'll it be?", and our waiterss, finishing out a double shift, still could muster good service and weak smiles. No problem with our wait staff tonight. Food was the main issue. No, no were no hairs, cockroaches, or bat guano under the buns of the burgers; it was just that the food was ok...fine...adequate...fair. Grandma and my wife had a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce inside. Looked good on arrival, but both said it was missing something...needed a little more zip. My omelette was about the same...tobasco always helps. Our bacon cheeseburger eater game thumbs up, as did the consumer of chickey nugnugs. Eater of fried chicken gave a so-so report also. Total bill for aforementioned averagalities was $53. Oh, and the men's room was kind of nasty. If the care in cleaning the kitchen is the same as the care in cleaning the bathroom...I'd be afraid to eat. It wasn't appalling, but I certainly wouldn't wipe my finger on the floor under the urinal and give anyone a wet willie, either. Maybe that's just the way bathrooms were in n the 50's, and I'm expecting too much! Places like thus are just fun to visit, but I'd hope to come away with something else besides the atmosphere and the waitresses to talk about...say, like the food. I'll root for them nonetheless, and hope that, like the fonz, I can give it a thumbs up "eyyy" next time I travel through Schulykill Haven. read more

Minstrels will be singing it's praises Sierra suggested a drink that if I remember was a mix of iced tea, cranberry and a splash of water. Very delicious tangy yet refreshing. Hadn't been to the Manheim sine before it burned to the ground; maybe 15 yrs. Had breakfast on consecutive days while home for the holidays. Breakfast served all day Sampled western omelette, veggie omelette and side show bob omelette. Excellent toast--maybe homemade bread. Coffee is average; OK to drink, but I wouldn't make a special trip. Service is not the fastest; but we were in no hurry. Omellette are solid. We all experienced clean plate syndrome, which is a rarity among the 13-18 yr old age group. Can't comment on lunch/dinner, but this is not the sort of place I would usually frequent for those meals either. Great Diner for breakfast fare. read more

The Manheim truly is my go-to local place to eat, and frankly one of the best diners I've ever eaten at. Every diner I go to, I find myself comparing it to the Manheim. The waitresses are always very personable and attentive, and the food is always on point. My regular is the Eggs Benedict, and the price (7.99) and the taste are unparalleled. Whenever I branch outside of my comfort zone and try something new, I'm never disappointed, either! Once they made me corned beef hash, which isn't even on the menu! Granted, that doesn't happen all the time of course, but it's an example of how the staff go above and beyond for their customers. More pluses: the retro decor/vibe, beer on the menu, comfortable seating/layout, free refills on sodas/water/coffee. I was on a road trip with a co-worker and we stopped at this diner to eat our late lunch. It was a little after 1:00 pm and we were told to sit anywhere we wanted. Our waitress came over and took our drink order. I really wanted a corned beef special, but I couldn't find that. I think they could have made me one, but I decided to go with the Rachel Sandwich instead. This sandwich was fantastic and I don't think it was because I hadn't eaten at all that day. The toasted bread was perfectly golden brown with moist turkey and coleslaw. The russian dressing was tangy and the entire plate was devoured by me. I also ordered a blue birch beer. I've never even heard of that, but I wanted to give it a try. It tasted like regular birch beer with blue food coloring. It wasn't amazing, but the waitress refilled my glass for me. The service at this place was pretty good, but the waitress might have forgotten to put my co-workers order of fries in. They came a few minutes later, but all in all, we'll probably be back the next time we have to travel up to there. read more

Off the bat it took a while to be seated and I'm sitting here right now for over twenty minutes waiting for literally anyone to come and take the check. Had breakfast this morning, it was OK. I had the Greek omelet, and home fries. My husband had eggs over medium, bacon and the hash brown. My husband enjoyed his breakfast, mine was OK. My home fries tasted like dehydrated potatoes and the eggs in my omelet tasted like the scrambled eggs from the carton " not fresh". I did like my rye toast. Service was very fast and friendly. Good food, that's about all. When first arriving at the restaurant we were told to choose a seat, the waitress came over a few minutes later and we got our drinks quickly. From there, it took forever... We finally got our food and got to eat, once we were finished we waited around while watching our waitress mop a floor in the back, not paying attention to any of her customers. On top of being done, our drinks had been empty for a while. I eventually got another waitress who went and told our waitress we were done. The table in front of me also got forgotten by their waitress (a different one) and was more than ready to go also. I will say that the food was pretty good and the pricing was reasonable. (I got the turkey club which was not dry at all, like some places can be) Another negative, there were two bugs that kept crawling on the window next to me :/ Plus looking up at the light, there was plenty of dead bugs inside. read more

Clean and nice bright diner look. Friendly seating hostess. Things went downhill from there at lunch. Bacon burger was average. Wasn't cooked as requested - well done vs medium. Came without any normal fixings like onions, tomatoes, pickles, or lettuce. Very strange. Fries were below average, which is hard to do. May have been the server regarding the lack of attention to detail on our meals, as she was having a bad day she said. My wife had the hotdog. Came dry with no fixings either (no mustard , relish, or onions). We had to flag her down for mustard and mayo. Only expected us to eat with ketchup I guess. Water tasted funny. Food is good. Service is slow but understandable with COVID. What's not understandable is 80% of wait staff and workers maskless during a pandemic. It's almost like science doesn't exist here. I mean I put my mask on when our waitress came over to protect her. But she didn't have the common decency to do the same to protect me. This place is AWESOME! Just had the most tender chicken breast I have had in a long time, delicious food and play wonderful oldies music. This definitely takes you back in time and has a 50s feel.
